Big Orange Slices... The All-Time Series Against the Gamecocks Tennessee leads its all-time series against South Carolina by a 28-15 total, taking control of the series over the past few years by emerging victorious from the last 21 consecutive meetings against the Gamecocks dating back to its last loss to USC on April 1, 2003. Under the guidance of Co-Head Coaches Ralph and Karen Weekly, the Big Orange holds a 21-4 record against South Carolina. The Lady Vols maintain just a 12-8 record in Columbia, S.C., however, but have won the last eight meetings between the two teams at Beckham Field. In its last series at USC, UT swept the Gamecocks by scores of 9-1 (5), 3-1 and 8-0 (5) over April 2-3, 2010. Last season, Tennessee managed another three-contest sweep, but it certainly wasn’t easy. It took a walk-off HR to emerge with a 4-2 (8 inn.) triumph in the opener, before securing the series with a 10-3 Saturday win. Trailing 4-0 in the first frame of the finale on March 27, Tennessee battled for single tallies in the first, third and sixth innings to pull within a run before completing the rally to a 5-4 win during its final at-bat. Melissa Davin had a clutch, two-out, pinch-hit single in the bottom of the seventh to tie things, and Raven Chavanne finished the comeback with a walk-off RBI base knock. Taking a Look at the Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) The most recent NCAA Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) has been released for 2012 (April 16) and the Southeastern Conference currently boasts five of the top 20 teams (#2 Alabama, #3 TENNESSEE, #6 Florida, #17 Georgia, #20 LSU), and eight of the top 50 (#29 Auburn, #31 Mississippi State, #38 Kentucky). The RPI is one of the factors utilized by the NCAA in handing out tourney seeds and slots in the annual Field of 64. Tennessee already owns wins over RPI #2 Alabama, #4 Arizona State and #6 Florida this season. We’re Going Streaking...Again! The Big Orange are currently riding a SEASON-LONG 10-GAME WINNING STREAK dating back to its last loss on April 4 against #9/10 Georgia. UT had already recorded a nine-contest winning skein this season back from Feb. 24-March 9. This marks Tennessee’s longest winning streak since winning 13 consecutive match-ups from April 3-April 22, 2011. OUCH...That Hurts! Hit by pitch is not a category you’d ever want to lead the Lady Vol history books in, but it’s worth a mention nonetheless. Junior outfielder Kat Dotson has been hit 27 times in her career, trailing only former AllAmerican Tonya Callahan’s 30 for the all-time Big Orange lead. That’s an awful lot of bruises needing a lot of
