Tennessee Tidbits...
Tennessee currently ranks 15th in the nation with 41 batters PM T-Storms Sunny having reached on a hit by pitch. Freshman Jared Allen leads the 79° | 60° | 40% 77° | 56° | 0% way, having taken eight doses, which ranks 53rd in the nation individually. Over the weekend, the Tennessee pitching staff held No. 2 Kentucky to a .211 batting average and just five extra-base hits. The Wildcats entered the weekend leading the SEC in batting average, on-base percentage hits, doubles, and RBIs and was second in slugging percentage and home runs. Since moving to the starting rotation last week at Georgia, sophomore Nick Williams has now thrown 10.2 shutout innings, striking out eight and yielding just three hits as opposing batters are hitting just .091 off of him. On Sunday, he faced off against his brother, Kentucky catcher Michael Williams, for the second time in his career. After striking him out in their only matchup last season, he was touched for a single in the first at-bat against his sibling on Sunday before getting him to foul out behind the plate in the second.
Godley Tabbed SEC Pitcher of the Week
After tossing eight strong innings to lead Tennessee to a 4-1 victory over No. 2 Kentucky on Friday night, snapping the Wildcats’ 22-game winning streak and handing them their first loss of the season, junior righthander Zack Godley was named the Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week. Godley is just the 14th Volunteer pitcher to earn the honors, joining the likes of R.A. Dickey, Todd Helton and Luke Hochevar, and just the third to do so since the 2007 campaign with the last player being Bryan Morgado in 2010. In the win over Kentucky, Godley held the top-hitting team in the SEC to just one run on three hits and struck out four over a career-high tying 8.0 innings. After yielding a first-inning run, he retired 21 of the final 25 batters that he faced and didn’t allow anyone past first base over the next seven frames. Godley is now 4-1 on the year with a 2.92 ERA in a team-leading 37.0 innings, spanning six starts. He has struck out 30 and walked just six while holding opposing hitters to a .221 batting average.
