 This weekend’s series will mark the first time Saturday Sunday that Tennessee and Louisiana Monroe have ever Friday played each other in baseball.  The Vols will shake up their rotation, moving juniors Zack Godley and Nick Blount up one day to the Friday and Saturday slots, respectively. Cloudy Sunny Cloudy Tennessee Tidbits... 59° | 36° | 20% 66° | 43° | 10% 64° | 54° | 20%  With a record of 298-142-1 (.676) in eight seasons as a Division I head coach, Tennessee skipper Dave Serrano is currently two wins away from notching career victory No. 300.  Junior Drew Steckenrider has done a little bit of everything for the Vols this year. At the plate, he currently leads the SEC in OPB (.593) and walks (15), ranks fourth in SLG (.750) and home runs (3), fifth in runs (15) and seventh in stolen bases (4). On the mound, he ranks second in hits allowed (8), fifth in strikeouts looking (9), sixth in runs allowed (4) and ninth in opponent’s batting average (.186).  Senior Zach Osborne has hit safely in seven straight games, one off his career-long hitting streak of eight set March 27-April 7, 2010. He is hitting .333 (9-for-27) during his current streak with five runs and three RBIs.  Despite hitting just .235, Zach Luther has been an effective leadoff hitter for the Vols, reaching base to start an inning 11 times in 24 leadoff opportunities (45.8 percent).

Last Time Out...

 Junior Drew Steckenrider was 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored, two walks and two RBIs as the Vols defeated Ball State, 9-7, on Wednesday. He also added two perfect innings on the mound, striking out five of the six batters he faced.  Sophomore Nick Williams came on in the ninth to record his third save of the year and seventh of his career, placing him in a tie for eighth all-time on the UT career saves chart.  At the plate, the Vols pounded out 12 hits, including a season-high seven for extra bases.

Pupil Takes Down the Teacher

 When the Vols defeated No. 16 Texas, 5-4, at the Houston College Classic on March 3, it marked Dave Serrano’s third career victory, first at Tennessee, over his former head coach Augie Garrido. Serrano made 15 appearances as part of Garrido’s pitching staff at Cal State Fullerton in 1986.  En route to the program’s first College World Series berth, Serrano’s UC-Irvine squad also defeated Texas twice in the Round Rock Regional in the 2007 NCAA Tournament.
