AT FIRST GLANCE VOLS HOST FIRST PLACE ALABAMA ¢ Winners of five of their last seven and coming off a 6-2 midweek victory over Western Carolina, the No. 29 Tennessee Volunteers welcome eighthranked and SEC-leading Alabama to Knoxville for a three-game series from April 18-20. ¢ The Crimson Tide, ranked as high as eighth in the nation, is riding a four-game winning streak heading into Friday night’s series opener. UA, which stands 26-11 overall and 10-5 in league play, has won four of its five SEC series this season. ¢ Most recently, the Tide rebounded after a series-opening loss to take two out of three from instate rival Auburn and then won a pair of midweek games against Jackson State and UAB. ¢ Tennessee, ranked 29th in the nation by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), stands 24-11 overall and is 6-9 in conference action at the midway point. ¢ Head coach Dave Serrano and his Vols opened the season a perfect 12-0, marking the best start in 105 years of program history. ¢ On Wednesday, six Vol hurlers combined to allow two runs, strike out 12 and walk none while retiring the last 17 batters to push past Western Carolina, 6-2. It was the third time this season the Orange and White did not allow a free pass. ¢ With 19 regular season games to go entering the series, UT has already eclipsed last season’s win total (22) and won just as many SEC series (2).
A CLOSER LOOK AT THE SERIES ¢ With two wins last season in Tuscaloosa, Alabama now holds a 71-34 advantage in the all-time series, which dates back to 1897.
