THE ALABAMA MATCH ¢ Sunday afternoon’s match in Tuscaloosa represents the 44th meeting between the Lady Vols and Crimson Tide. ¢ Tennessee currently leads the series by a 31-12 margin and has won eight consecutive matches against Alabama, tying UT’s longest winning streak in the series. The Lady Vols won eight straight matches from 1981-1993. ¢ Six of the eight straight wins have been in three sets, including the five most recent matches. ¢ UT’s last loss against the Tide came in straight sets on the road on Oct. 21, 2007. ¢ It will be the 20th meeting in Tuscaloosa, with UT currently holding a 12-7 advantage at Alabama. ¢ Head Coach Rob Patrick holds a career record of 18-7 against the Crimson Tide.
DEFENDING THE SEC TITLE ¢ Tennessee finished the 2011 campaign with a 19-1 record in the SEC, winning its first outright league title in program history. With all starters returning, including the defending SEC Player and Freshman of the Year, UT was voted by the league’s coaches to unanimously repeat as conference champions in 2012. ¢ The Lady Vols are seeking back-to-back SEC Championships, which they accomplished in 1981-82, and their seventh combined league title. In addition to 1981-82 and last season, UT won the 1984 and 2004 championship. The Orange & White also took home the 2004 SEC Tournament Title.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT ¢ After finishing its regualar season tournament slate with a 7-2 record, the No. 17 Tennessee volleyball team opened 2012 Southeastern Conference play on Wednesday night at new league member Missouri on ESPNU. ¢ The Orange & White dominated the opening two sets, 25-20 and 25-14 and was within two points of clinching the match in the third set, but the Tigers stormed back in their first SEC match to best the Lady Vols in five sets. Mizzou won the final three sets, 2725, 25-21 and 15-9, respectively. ¢ UT achieved season highs in kills (72), assists (70) and digs (89), outperforming Mizzou in all three categories. ¢ Despite its three losses, UT has actually held the advantage in kills, assists, aces and points in all 10 matches this season. ¢ Tennessee was led by junior outside hitter Kelsey Robinson, who garnered her fourth career 20-20 match with 23 kills and 24 digs. It was the second time she reached the 20-20 plateau this season and marked her eighth consecutive and 35th career double-double. ¢ Sophomore setter Mary Pollmiller dished out a season-high 66 assists against the Tigers, just three shy of her career-best mark of 69. Her classmate Tiffany Baker added 18 kills, including eight in the first set, while seniors DeeDee Harrison and Leslie Cikra each tallied 11 kills. Ellen Mullins added 17 digs and sophomore Nikki Brice scooped a career-best 15 balls.

MEDIA CREDENTIALS
Requests for working media credentials should be directed to volleyball contact Brian Bruce. Those wishing to attend a match are asked to call the Media Relations Office to be placed on the pass list. Photo credentials will be issued only to accredited photographers or those individuals on special assignment. Because there are specifically designated areas for photographers, we ask that anyone shooting a Lady Vol volleyball match at Thompson-Boling Arena check with Brian prior to the start of the contest.
RADIO
Thompson-Boling Arena is available for radio broadcasts through UT Telephone Services. In order to access these lines, those interested in broadcasting a particular match need to inform the UT Athletics Media Relations Office in writing at their earliest convenience and no later than three weeks prior to the contest. Radio stations also will need to contact UT Telephone Services at (865) 974-3121 to order a telephone line for use at the contest(s).
STATISTICAL SERVICES
Services provided include statistics generated from the StatCrew computer program. Match statistics will be handed to all attending members of the media and sports information personnel after every game. Following the conclusion of the match, final statistics will be faxed/emailed to the visiting sports information director’s fax/ email list. Results will also be emailed to the sports information contact of visiting teams at the conclusion of the match in lieu of a sports information representative traveling with his or her team. Arrangements should be made in advance for any additional services.
INTERVIEWS
Interviews will be available following the match after a 10-minute cooling-off period. Media wishing to interview the coaches or any players other than on game days are required to set up interviews with 24 hours notice through Brian Bruce in the UT Media Relations Office.

LADY VOL NOTES CIKRA NAMED PLAYER OF WEEK
¢ Senior right side hitter Leslie Cikra earned her first career weekly honor on Monday, being tabbed this week’s SEC Offensive Player of the Week. The 6-foot-4 hitter was named the tournament MVP at Maryland’s SpringHill Suites at Arundel Mills Invitational last week. ¢ On Wednesday, Cikra was one of three players chosen nationally as the NCAA’s Players of the Week, marking UT’s first national weekly award since last season when Baker earned the College Volleyball Update honor on Nov. 1. ¢ Playing in all nine sets, Cikra committed just two errors on 56 attempts and tallied 42 kills for an amazing .714 attacking percentage at the tournament. She averaged 5.11 points, 4.67 kills and 0.78 blocks. ¢ She set a new career high with a .765 attacking clip against George Washington (9/7), posting 13 kills on 17 attempts with no errors. ¢ The Chagrin Falls, Ohio, native tallied 19 kills - just one shy of her career best - on 26 attempts with only one errors for a .692 hitting percentage against Maryland.
RECORD BREAKING TOURNAMENT ¢ After posting consecutive 2-1 weekends with no sweeps to open the season at the Comcast Lady Vol Classic and Wichita State’s Shocker Classic, Tennessee put together a perfect 3-0 weekend with three shut-
outs at the University of Maryland’s SpringHill Suites at Arundel Mills Invitational last week. ¢ The Orange & White opened the event with a win over George Washington on Friday and returned to action against Boston College on Saturday morning. ¢ The Lady Vols played a historical match against the Eagles, hitting .639 as a team to break a singlematch record that stood for nearly 32 years. UT had 48 kills on 72 attacking attempts with only two errors - a rally scoring era best. Tennessee allowed just 38 points against, the second fewest in the rally scoring era. ¢ The hitting percentage clip bested the previous record of .607 that was set on Sept. 19, 1980 in a loss against Cal State Fullerton. ¢ Tennessee didn’t slow down much in the tournament finale, defeating host Maryland in three frames to take home the tournament title. After beating the Terps 25-19 and 25-12 in the first two sets, respectively, UT fought off seven Maryland set points to prevail in an epic 36-34 third set.

ON THE ROAD
¢ After hosting its annual home tournament, the Comcast Lady Vol Classic, from Aug. 24-25, the Lady Vols have been road warriors. UT has traveled to Wichita, Kan., and College Park, Md., for two regular season tournaments and Columbia, Mo., for the SEC opener this week. ¢ Tennessee is 2-1 in true road matches this season, with wins over Wichita State and Maryland. UT also has three wins at a neutral location on the campaign. ¢ In 2011, the Big Orange finished with a 14-3 record in matches away from Thompson-Boling Arena, including a 3-1 mark in a neutral location. ¢ Dating back through the 2008 campaign, the Lady Vols are 40-16 in true road matches. ¢ For the third consecutive season, Tennessee opened its campaign in the national rankings, as it came in at No. 15 in the AVCA Preseason Poll. ¢ The preseason ranking was the ninth in program history for the Lady Vols, who concluded 2011 rated as the 19th-best team in the nation. ¢ On Aug. 27, the Lady Vols moved up one position to No. 14 in the nation following wins over Cincinnati and then-No. 10 Iowa State. UT fell down two notches to No. 16 after posting a 2-1 mark at the Shocker Volleyball Classic. ¢ The Big Orange went 3-0 at Maryland’s SpringHill Suites Invitational with three sweeps, but dropped one spot to No. 17 in the AVCA Poll on Sept. 10. ¢ Dating back to last season, Tennessee has now spent 14 consecutive polling periods in the AVCA’s national rankings ¢ After entering the ranking at No. 24 on Nov. 30, 2009, the Lady Vols spent 19 consecutive polling period in the Top 25, until falling out for a four-week span last season.

Mizzou’s win over the Orange & White can now be added to that list. ¢ Tennessee went 4-2 in matches against ranked opponents in 2011, with a pair of wins over Florida (No. 6 & No. 13), a victory over No. 16 Kentucky and a win against No. 21 Dayton. ¢ En route to its NCAA Regional Final appearance, the Big Orange defeated a rally-scoring record six ranked teams in 2004. UT shared the SEC title and captured the SEC Tournament Title that season.

¢ The Lady Vols will make a SEC high five TV appearances in the regular season in 2012. UT, which appeared on the network Wednesday night at Mizzou, will be on ESPNU a league-high three times. ¢ UT will also play at Kentucky (9/26) and at LSU (10/10) on ESPNU. The Big Orange hosts Alabama (10/28) on Fox SportSouth and plays at Florida on Comcast/Cox on Nov. 4. ¢ Tennessee has now played nine matches on ESPN networks over the years and is 5-4 in those matches. POLLMILLER TRIPLE-DOUBLE
¢ With her 49-assist, 14-dig and 11-kill performance against Wichita State (9/2), sophomore setter Mary Pollmiller became just the second player in program history to record the rare triple-double. ¢ Pollmiller and Ole Miss’ Amanda Philpot have the league’s only two triple-doubles this season. Philpot tallied 11 kills, 14 digs and 36 assists vs. Rice. Pollmiller is currently tied for fifth in the conference with three double-doubles. ¢ Tennessee legend Nikki Fowler was the last to achieve the triple-double for the Lady Vols. As a freshman, Fowler went for 19 kills, 19 assists and 18 digs at Ole Miss on Nov. 2, 2007. She finished her career (2007-10) with 1,649 kills, rankings fourth in the UT volleyball record books.

¢ Kelsey Robinson, the defending SEC Player of the Year, currently leads the SEC with eight doubledoubles on the season. Robinson did not achieve the
feat in the season opener against Florida State, but has reached double digits in two categories in her last eight matches. ¢ Robinson’s tallied 23 kills and 24 digs at Mizzou (9/12), marking the fourth 20-20 match of her career. She has two 20-20 performances on the campaign. She tallied 24 kills and 22 digs vs. BYU (9/1). She had 20 kills and 20 digs against Ole Miss (10/9/11) and 24 kills and 24 digs against Maryland (8/27/11) last season. ¢ After sitting out last week’s match against George Washington, Robinson posted 18 kills and 12 digs against Boston College and 18 kills and 11 digs against tournament host Maryland to continue her doubledouble streak. ¢ She now has 35 career double-doubles.
ROBINSON: TSWA PLAYER OF THE WEEK ¢ Just three weeks into the campaign and Robinson has garnered a pair of weekly honors, as the Tennessee Sportswriters Association (TSWA) named her the inaugural winner of its player of the week award on Sept. 5. ¢ Robinson, who was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week after week one, led the Shocker Volleyball Classic with 69 kills and is sitting on seven-consecutive double-doubles. ¢ The defending SEC Player of the Year was named SEC Player of the Week a league-high five times last season. In 2010, she garnered SEC Freshman of the Week honors on two occasions.

¢ Tennessee posted its second straight 2-1 weekend at Wichita State’s Shocker Volleyball Classic, picking up five-set wins over then-No. 24 Colorado State and the tournament host Shockers. ¢ Robinson led the tournament with 69 kills, tallied a double-double in each of UT’s matches and was named to the all-tournament team for the secondstraight weekend. The hitter registered three 20-plus kill outings and had at least 17 digs in each match. She posted her third-career 20-20 effort with 24 kills and 22 digs in a loss to BYU and tallied 24 kills and 18 digs against the Rams. ¢ Pollmiller became just the second player in program history to record a triple-double with 49 assists, 14 digs and a career-best 11 kills against the Shockers. Pollmiller was also named to the all-tournament team. ¢ Sophomore Tiffany Baker matched a career-best at the event with 19 kills against CSU, while Cikra stepped up defensively, tallying a team-leading 16 blocks at the tournament. Cikra set a career high with seven blocks against Colorado State.

COMCAST LADY VOL CLASSIC
¢ After falling to then-No. 12 Florida State in the home opener, the Lady Vols rebounded to defeat Cincinnati in four sets and upset then-No. 10 Iowa State in a thrilling five-setter to finish second at their event. ¢ Robinson led the tournament in total kills (55), kills per set average (4.58) and aces per frame (0.42) and recorded back-to-back double-doubles. ¢ Mullins finished the event with a team-high 42 digs, while Pollmiller dished out 107 assists and recorded a double-double against Iowa State. ¢ For their efforts, Robinson and Mullins both landed on the Comcast Lady Vol Classic All-Tournament Team.

¢ The Alabama Crimson Tide opens SEC play on Friday against defending Western Division champions, LSU, before hosting the Lady Vols on Sunday. ¢ The Tide defeated the Tigers on Friday night in straight sets, 25-12, 25-22, 25-16, to extend its winning streak to 11 matches and improve to 12-1 on the season. ¢ Senior outside hitter Kayla Fitterer recorded 19 kills and hit .436 against LSU. ¢ The Tide posted an 11-1 record through non-conference play. The Tide’s lone loss came in five sets against Northeastern on Aug. 24. ¢ ’Bama has shutout nine of its 13 opponents this season and has only played the one five-frame match. ¢ Alabama’s serving has been outstanding this season, averaging 1.5 aces per set, a mark that ranks 51st in the nation as of Sept. 9. ¢ The squad also ranks 30th in hitting percentage (.275), 37th in kills per set (14.10) and 41st in assists per game (13.0) in the country. ¢ In the league, ’Bama ranks second in opponent hitting percentage, second in aces and fourth in hitting percentage. ¢ The Crimson Tide has a freshman duo that have led the way all season. Setter Sierra Wilson averages 11.66 assists per set to lead the SEC, while ranking 14th in the country. Classmate Kryssi Daniels, a defensive specialist, is averaging 0.57 aces per set and has 25 aces on the season to lead the Tide. She leads the SEC and ranks 12th in the nation in aces. ¢ On the outside, sophomore Pricilla Duke-Ezeji boasts a 3.72 kills per set average and 119 total kills on the season. A transfer from UCLA, she currently ranks eighth in the SEC in points per set (3.97). ’Bama has a total of three players that rank in the top 20 of the SEC in points per game. Kayla Fitterer (3.88 Pts./Set) and Andrea McQuaid (3.43 Pts./Set) rank 14th and 17th, respectively. ¢ After her performance Friday night, Fitterer leads the Tide with a 3.73 kills per set average. ¢ At the net, sophomore Katherine White leads UA with 36 total blocks and a 0.82 rejection per game average. That mark ranks 18th in the conference. ¢ Having already exceeded its win total from a season ago, Alabama finished the 2011 season with a 4-16 record in the SEC and an 11-20 mark overall. WHO’S BACK? ¢ Tennessee is returning all six starters and its starting libero in 2012: seniors Leslie Cikra and DeeDee Harrison, junior Kelsey Robinson and sophomores Mary Pollmiller, Tiffany Baker and Shealyn Kolosky. Junior Ellen Mullins is the returning starting libero for the Orange & White. In addition, the Lady Vols also welcome back redshirt senior Kayla Jeter, who spent the 2011 campaign sidelined with a knee injury. ¢ Robinson set the tone for the Big Orange last season, earning AVCA Second Team All-American honors. The 6-foot-2 outside hitter became the first UT player to be named SEC Player of the Year after leading the league in kills (4.52/set), points (5.15/set) and double-doubles (23), while rating second in service aces (.35/set). She was also named a Volleyball Magazine All-American and earned AVCA All-South Region honors. ¢ Harrison, Baker and Cikra all earned AVCA AllAmerican Honorable Mention honors last season after helping guide UT to its first outright SEC title. Harrison, a First Team All-SEC member and AVCA AllSouth Region honoree, led the conference in blocks (1.14/set). Baker was tabbed to the All-SEC Second Team and the SEC All-Freshman Team after averaging 2.48 kills/set. The 6-foot-4 outside hitter earned College Volleyball Update National Player of the Week honors on Nov. 1. Cikra was named First Team All-SEC and earned AVCA All-American Honorable Mention accolades after hitting a scorching .330 in league matches last season. Cikra was also named to the AVCA’s All-South Region squad. ¢ Pollmiller - the team’s 5-foot-10 setter - returns for her sophomore season after a record breaking freshman campaign. After leading the nation’s freshmen with 11.94 assists per set, she was named the 2011 SEC Freshman of the Year, the AVCA’s All-South Region Freshman of the Year, an AVCA All-American Honorable Mention, to the AVCA All-South Region Team and to the All-SEC Second Team. Pollmiller rewrote the Tennessee record books, setting single-season marks in total assists (1,480) and assists per set (11.94) during the 25-point rally scoring era. She was just the second Lady Vol to be named the league’s rookie of the year (Nikki Fowler, 2007). ¢ After tearing her ACL in last season’s preseason practice, Jeter returns to the squad in 2012. The 5-foot-11 outside hitter earned 2011 Preseason All-SEC Team honors before being sidelined.
