TENNESSEE VS. ETSU
Tennessee holds a commanding 55-13 lead in the all-time series against East Tennessee State, but the Buccaneers have won each of the last four matchups, sweeping the season series in both 2008 and 2009. Senior Zach Osborne is the only current Vol to have ever played against ETSU, starting both contests in 2009.
TENNESSEE TIDBITS
Tennessee currently ranks 51st in the NCAA RPI with wins over No. 5 Kentucky and No. 13 South Carolina. The Vols will host No. 1 Florida this weekend in Knoxville. The Vols reached 20 wins in just 30 games this season, their fastest path to that mark since going 20-8 to open the 2005 campaign, which resulted in a trip to the College World Series. Including a 5-4 win over No. 10 South Carolina last Friday, the Big Orange now has four wins over ranked teams this season (No. 16 Texas, No. 2 Kentucky, No. 19 Georgia). Junior Nick Blount recorded a remarkable run as UT’s closer, recording save in seven consecutive contests, the longest such streak in school history, from March 27-April 6. In his eight games as the team’s closer, Blount has yet to allow a run or walk a batter, while striking out eight in 9.1 innings pitched. With a double in the third inning against Alabama on March 30, UT senior Zach Osborne became just the 15th player in school history to record 200+ hits. He currently has 207 which places him 14 out of the top 10 (221 - Jeff Christensen). The Tennessee bullpen has allowed just five runs in its last 32.2 innings of work (1.38 ERA), including 11.1 shutout innings in its sweep over Alabama. During the run, six pitchers have combined to allow 24 hits and strike out 40.
