UT WELCOMES GOVS FOR INSTATE TILT ¢ Following a season-long seven-game roadswing over the course of just nine days, the No. 14 Tennessee baseball team returns home for the first time since March 5 for an instate showdown with Austin Peay on Tuesday. ¢ The Big Orange is 17-4 all-time against the Governors (8-10). However, Austin Peay has won two of the last three matchups and the last two in Knoxville. ¢ For the second-consecutive week, the Vols bounced back from a Friday night loss to win the final two games of the weekend to win a series. UT dropped Friday night’s Southeastern Conference opener at Missouri, 5-2, but rebounded to post 5-1 and 4-1 victories in the Saturday doubleheader to improve to 17-2 on the season. ¢ The 17-2 start is the best for Tennessee since 2004, when the Vols opened the season 19-2. ¢ Tennessee has won all five of its weekend series this season and all four of its midweek games. ¢ Tennessee posted a 5-2 record with series wins at then-No. 24 Arizona State and Missouri during its seven-game road stretch. UT traveled over 5,300 miles during the nine-day span. ¢ With a 2-0 midweek win at Middle Tennessee one week ago, the Vols have allowed a just seven total runs over their past four games.
VOLS CONTINUE NATIONAL CLIMB ¢ Following a 3-1 week and 2-1 start to SEC play, the Diamond Vols continued their climb up the national rankings in all major college baseball polls. ¢ Tennessee enters the week ranked as high as No. 14 according to Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, up three spots from last week’s No. 17 ranking.
