AT FIRST GLANCE VOLS VS. DOGS: SEC GAME OF THE WEEK ¢ Winners of three straight, No. 21 Tennessee continue their five-game road stretch with a threegame SEC Eastern Division series at Georgia. ¢ Thursday night’s opener is the “SEC Game of the Week,” and will be broadcast live on ESPNU with Dave Neal, Kyle Peterson and former Vol Chris Burke on the call. (See pg. 4 for more on the VFL) ¢ The Vols are coming off an impressive series win over then-No. 4 Vanderbilt, taking the final two games at home last weekend, and a midweek 10-1 thrashing of one of the nation’s most dominant offenses at Tennessee Tech on Tuesday. ¢ Tennessee opened the season a perfect 12-0, marking the best start in 105 years of program history, but had lost five in a row and seven of its last eight entering last Saturday’s game against Vandy. ¢ UT snapped the streak in thrilling fashion, walking off 10-9 winners with a two-out, two-strike, two-RBI single by freshman Nathaniel Maggio. ¢ The Big Orange carried that momentum into Sunday’s finale, shutting out the ’Dores 7-0 to win its first series against the in-state rival since 2010. ¢ The win marked only the second regular season series lost by Vandy since April 20-22, 2012, and the Vols’ first nine-inning shutout of VU since March 3, 1985 (6-0). The series victory was also the first over a top-five team since UT won the final two games at No. 1 LSU from April 17-19, 2009. ¢ Seven UT pitchers combined to allow just four hits as the Vols routed in-state foe TTU on the road Tuesday, 10-1. The Vol hurlers gave up one hit for extra bases to a team that came into the contest ranked first in the nation in runs scored (287), third in hits (371) and sixth in batting average (.317).

¢ UGA and UT were limited to just one game last season due to a pair of rainouts. Trailing by five runs in the bottom of the ninth, UT rallied to within a single tally and loaded the bases before Will Maddox was caught trying to steal home with two strikes and two outs to end it with UGA on top, 8-7. ¢ Tennessee leads the all-time series over Georgia by a 115-106 margin, dating back to 1909. The last 10 meetings have been split right down the middle, with UGA taking five of the last six. UT once won 17 consecutive games against Georgia, from 1993-97. ¢ Georgia holds a 61-43 advantage in games played in Athens. UGA took two out of three the last time the teams played at Foley Field in 2012.
