Big Orange Slices Hey, It’s Good To Be Back Home Again  For the first time since 2008, the Tennessee cross country teams will run on their home course at Lambert Acres Golf Club in Maryville.  With its location in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains, the course is extremely challenging, and many squads simply don’t want to run there early in the season as they try to work their way into shape by the championship portion of the schedule.  The Big Orange squads are hosting the SEC Championships this season on Oct. 31, so this competition gives J.J. Clark’s troops a great opportunity to preview the course.  Kentucky coach Don Weber has opted to show his squads the course as well, making the easy trek down I-75 for the meet.  The men will run the full SEC Championship distance of 8000 meters, but the women will be tackling a 5000m course Saturday instead of the full 6000m. About Our Home Course - Lambert Acres Golf Club  For the 14th season, the scenic Lambert Acres Golf Club in Maryville, Tenn., is serving as the home course for the Tennessee cross country teams. A 27-hole golf course, Lambert Acres is nestled in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains and boasts 9,525 yards of rolling hills with sloping grades throughout the entire layout.  The Big Orange men have hosted 14 meets at Lambert Acres, dating back to the 1998 season. In addition to playing host to the Tennessee Invitational 10 times and the NCAA South Regional in 2002, 2006 and 2008, the Vols also welcomed the rest of the Southeastern Conference for the 1998 SEC Championships. They will do so again in 2011.  The Lady Vols have competed in 13 official meets at Lambert Acres since 1998. In addition to playing co-host to the Tennessee Invitational nine times and the NCAA South Regional in 2002, 2006 and 2008, the Orange and White also hosted the Southeastern Conference Championships in 1998. They will do so again in 2011.  For directions to Lambert Acres, see p. 66 of UT’s cross country guide by accessing the Quick Links section in the upper right-hand column at www.utsports.com and clicking on “2011 Media Guide.” Not Much Experience For The Home Team At Lambert Acres  Chris Bodary is the only Vol who has run previously at Lambert Acres, placing 20th overall and seventh on the team in 26:03.14 for 8K at the last Tennessee Invitational on Sept. 19, 2008.  Lady Vols Elizabeth Altizer, Chanelle Price, Brittany Sheffey and Elizabeth Tiller ran in the 2008 Tennessee Invitational.  Sheffey placed sixth overall (fifth UT) in 18:56 on the 5K course. Price was seventh (sixth) in a still-career-best 19:04, while Altizer was 15th (eighth) in 19:45 and Tiller was 21st (10th) in 21:32.

At The Starting Line... Tennessee Invitational  The Vols and Lady Vols host the 2011 Tennessee Invitational on Sat., Sept. 17, at Lambert Acres Golf Club in Maryville.  The men are scheduled to run an 8000-meter race at 9 a.m. Eastern time, followed by the women’s 5000-meter competition at 9:45 a.m.  As of press time, Tennessee is set to battle Kentucky in a dual meet.  This meet is a precursor to UT hosting the SEC Championships on Oct. 31. Tennessee Invitational History  UT lasted hosted this meet in 2008, when the Lady Vols won the women’s race and the Vols took second in the men’s affair.  This is the 11th time the men have hosted the Tennessee Invitational at Lambert Acres and the 10th occasion for the women, because the 2007 distaff meet had only one team (UT).  The Lady Vols won their home meet in ‘98, ‘02, ‘04, ‘05, ‘06 and ‘08, and tied for first in ‘99 for a total of seven triumphs in nine tries.  The Vols have won four times (‘98, ‘99, ‘02, ‘05) in 10 previous meets.  The first Tennessee Inv. was held in 1998.  No meet was held on Sept. 14, 2001, due to the 9/11 attacks on the United States.
