VOLS OFF TO BEST START EVER ¢ In 105 years of Tennessee baseball history, the Vols have made four College World Series appearances, nine NCAA Tournament appearances and won three SEC championships... But only this team has started a season 10-0. ¢ With a series sweep of Quinnipiac - the Vols’ third weekend series sweep this season - UT surpassed the previous best start in program history of 8-0, which was set in the 1992 and 2003 seasons. ¢ It’s the first time UT has recorded threestraight weekend series sweeps since the 2005 campaign. The Vols also swept Purdue and thenNo. 29 UNLV this season. ¢ In his first year at Tennessee, head coach Dave Serrano led the Vols to the previous-second-best start to a season in school history, tallying seven straight wins to open the 2012 campaign. ¢ The 7-0 start marked the best by any UT skipper to start his Tennessee managerial career, topping the previous mark of 4-0 set by William H. Newman in 1902 and tied by Z.G. Clevenger in 1911. DIAMOND VOLS ENTER TOP 25 ¢ The unbeaten Diamond Vols moved into the USA Today Coaches’ Poll at No. 21 on Monday, and climbed nine spots to No. 19 in the latest Collegiate Baseball Newspaper table. ¢ UT enters the coaches’ poll for the first time since the organization’s 2007 preseason poll, when the Vols began the season ranked 25th. ¢ Collegiate Baseball bumped the Vols up from No. 28 to No. 19 after UT swept Quinnipiac. The No. 19 ranking is the highest for the Vols since Baseball America tabbed the Big Orange 11th in the country to start the 2007 campaign. ¢ Tennessee is also receiving votes in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) poll this week.
