THE MISSOURI MATCH ¢ Wednesday night’s match represents the third alltime meeting between the Lady Vols and Tigers. With Mizzou joining the Southeastern Conference this season, it also represents the first league match between the two opponents. ¢ The series is currently tied at 1-1, with both meeting coming during the 2005 campaign. UT posted a 25-9 overall record in 2005, including a 13-3 mark in the SEC, en route to the program’s only NCAA Final Four appearance. ¢ The No. 9 Big Orange was shutout by the No. 21 Tigers at their regular season tournament - the Tiger Invitational - on Sept. 4, 2005, but rebounded to upset No. 8 Mizzou in four sets (30-28, 30-27, 25-30, 3017) at the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight on Dec. 10, 2005 in University Park, Pa. ¢ The Lady Vols were ranked 17th in the nation their current national ranking - in the Elite Eight matchup.

DEFENDING THE SEC TITLE ¢ Tennessee finished the 2011 campaign with a 19-1 record in the SEC, winning its first outright league title in program history. With all starters returning, including the defending SEC Player and Freshman of the Year, UT was voted by the league’s coaches to unanimously repeat as conference champions in 2012. ¢ The Lady Vols are seeking back-to-back SEC Championships, which they accomplished in 1981-82, and their seventh combined league title. In addition to 1981-82 and last season, UT won the 1984 and 2004 championship. The Orange & White also took home the 2004 SEC Tournament Title.

RECORD BREAKING TOURNAMENT ¢ After posting consecutive 2-1 weekends with no sweeps to open the season at the Comcast Lady Vol Classic and Wichita State’s Shocker Classic, Tennessee put together a perfect 3-0 weekend with three shutouts at the University of Maryland’s SpringHill Suites at Arundel Mills Invitational last week. ¢ The Orange & White opened the event with a win over George Washington on Friday and returned to action against Boston College on Saturday morning.

The Lady Vols played a historical match against the Eagles, hitting .639 as a team to break a single-match record that stood for nearly 32 years. UT had 48 kills on 72 attacking attempts with only two errors - a rally scoring era best. Tennessee allowed just 38 points against, the second fewest in the rally scoring era. ¢ The hitting percentage clip bested the previous record of .607 that was set on Sept. 19, 1980 in a loss against Cal State Fullerton. ¢ Tennessee didn’t slow down much in the tournament finale, defeating host Maryland in three frames to take home the tournament title. After beating the Terps 25-19 and 25-12 in the first two sets, respectively, UT fought off seven Maryland set points to prevail in an epic 36-34 third set.

MEDIA CREDENTIALS

Requests for working media credentials should be directed to volleyball contact Brian Bruce. Those wishing to attend a match are asked to call the Media Relations Office to be placed on the pass list. Photo credentials will be issued only to accredited photographers or those individuals on special assignment. Because there are specifically designated areas for photographers, we ask that anyone shooting a Lady Vol volleyball match at Thompson-Boling Arena check with Brian prior to the start of the contest.

RADIO

Thompson-Boling Arena is available for radio broadcasts through UT Telephone Services. In order to access these lines, those interested in broadcasting a particular match need to inform the UT Athletics Media Relations Office in writing at their earliest convenience and no later than three weeks prior to the contest. Radio stations also will need to contact UT Telephone Services at (865) 974-3121 to order a telephone line for use at the contest(s).

STATISTICAL SERVICES

Services provided include statistics generated from the StatCrew computer program. Match statistics will be handed to all attending members of the media and sports information personnel after every game. Following the conclusion of the match, final statistics will be faxed/emailed to the visiting sports information director’s fax/ email list. Results will also be emailed to the sports information contact of visiting teams at the conclusion of the match in lieu of a sports information representative traveling with his or her team. Arrangements should be made in advance for any additional services.

INTERVIEWS

Interviews will be available following the match after a 10-minute cooling-off period. Media wishing to interview the coaches or any players other than on game days are required to set up interviews with 24 hours notice through Brian Bruce in the UT Media Relations Office.

» Senior RSH Leslie Cikra is hitting a scorching .345 this season with 110 kills. The UT single season record is .367, set by Leah Hinkey in 2010.

CIKRA NAMED SEC PLAYER OF WEEK

¢ Senior right side hitter Leslie Cikra earned her first career weekly honor on Monday, being tabbed this week’s SEC Offensive Player of the Week. The 6-foot-4 hitter was named the tournament MVP at Maryland’s SpringHill Suites at Arundel Mills Invitational last week. ¢ Playing in all nine sets, Cikra committed just two errors on 56 attempts and tallied 42 kills for an amazing .714 attacking percentage at the tournament. She averaged 5.11 points, 4.67 kills and 0.78 blocks. ¢ She set a new career high with a .765 attacking clip against George Washington (9/7), posting 13 kills on 17 attempts with no errors. ¢ The Chagrin Falls, Ohio, native tallied 19 kills - just one shy of her career best - on 26 attempts with only one errors for a .692 hitting percentage against Maryland.

ROBINSON, POLLMILLER ALL-TOURNEY

¢ Tennessee volleyball co-captains Kelsey Robinson and Mary Pollmiller were named to the SpringHill Suites at Arundel Mills Invitational all-tournament team. ¢ Robinson averaged 6.0 kills and 3.83 digs to go with 1.17 blocks per set at the tournament. She had 18 kills against both Boston College and Maryland, while hitting a career-high .586 and notching a career-best four solo blocks against the Eagles. She also had a career-high five blocks against the Terrapins. ¢ Pollmiller tallied 50 assists and six digs against the Terps en route to finishing the event with 121 dimes, for a 13.4 assists per set average.

THIS LOOK FAMILIAR

¢ The 17th-ranked Tennessee volleyball team posted two straight 2-1 weekends and then went 3-0 last week to conclude regular season tournament play with a 7-2 mark. ¢ The defending Southeastern Conference Champion Lady Vols began last season’s title run with the exact same 4-2 mark through six matches, and then rattled off 11-straight victories through its final regular season tournament and first eight league matches.

Currently, UT is on a four-match winning streak. ¢ Through nine matches, the Big Orange also has two wins over ranked opponents with five-set decisions against then-No. 10 Iowa State (Aug. 25) and then-No. 24 Colorado State (Aug. 31). In 2004 - UT’s most-winningest campaign in terms of percentage the Lady Vols also had a pair of wins over ranked opponents through nine matches. The Orange & White beat No. 18 Loyola Marymount and No. 24 Purdue. ¢ The Lady Vols posted a program-high .914 winning percentage with a 32-3 overall record, including a 15-1 mark in league play in 2004. After sharing the SEC title, UT went on to win two matches in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history. Tennessee also captured the 2004 SEC Tournament title.

season tournaments. UT will now travel to Columbia, Mo., for the first time since September 2005. ¢ Tennessee is 2-0 in true road matches this season, with wins over Wichita State and Maryland. UT also has three wins at a neutral location on the campaign. ¢ In 2011, the Big Orange finished with a 14-3 record in matches away from Thompson-Boling Arena, including a 3-1 mark in a neutral location. ¢ Dating back through the 2008 campaign, the Lady Vols are 40-15 in true road matches. UT is 6738 in away matches dating back through the 2004 season.

TENNESSEE vs. THE TOP 25

¢ Through nine matches, the Lady Vols have faced three opponents ranked in the top 25 and two that were receiving votes in the poll. ¢ UT is 2-1 against teams in the top 25 this season with wins over then-No. 10 Iowa State and then-No. 24 Colorado State. The Big Orange’s loss was against then-No. 12 and now-No. 11 Florida State in the season opener. ¢ For the third consecutive season, Tennessee opened its campaign in the national rankings, as it came in at No. 15 in the AVCA Preseason Poll. ¢ The preseason ranking was the ninth in program history for the Lady Vols, who concluded 2011 rated as the 19th-best team in the nation. ¢ On Aug. 27, the Lady Vols moved up one position to No. 14 in the nation following wins over Cincinnati and then-No. 10 Iowa State. UT fell down two notches to No. 16 after posting a 2-1 mark at the Shocker Volleyball Classic. ¢ The Big Orange went 3-0 at Maryland’s SpringHill Suites Invitational with three sweeps, but dropped one spot to No. 17 in the AVCA Poll on Sept. 10. ¢ Dating back to last season, Tennessee has now spent 14 consecutive polling periods in the AVCA’s national rankings ¢ After entering the ranking at No. 24 on Nov. 30, 2009, the Lady Vols spent 19 consecutive polling period in the Top 25, until falling out for a four-week span last season.

SCOUTING THE TIGERS

¢ The Missouri Tigers open a new era on Wednesday night, hosting their first SEC match. ¢ The Tigers are 8-2 on the campaign with losses coming against Michigan and Morehead State and are currently ranked 10th in the NCAA in hitting pct. (.310). ¢ Mizzou is led by junior outside hitter Lisa Henning and middle blocker Whitney Little. Henning ranks second behind Robinson in the SEC in kills per set (4.39), while Little comes in at second in hitting pct. (.446) and sixth in blocks per game (1.13). Little was named this week’s SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Week. ¢ Mizzou junior setter Molly Kreklow ranked fourth in the SEC in assists per game (10.73) and recently passed the 3,000-career assist mark with 3,099. ¢ Mizzou had made two-straight NCAA Tournament trips - losing to Florida in the opening round in 2011 and reaching the Sweet 16 in 2010. ¢ Wayne Kreklow and his wife Susan Kreklow have combined to win over 250 matches at Mizzou. He is in his 13th season at the helm and has reached the NCAA Tournament 10 of the last 12 seasons.

POLLMILLER TRIPLE-DOUBLE

¢ With her 49-assist, 14-dig and 11-kill performance against Wichita State (9/2), sophomore setter Mary Pollmiller became just the second player in program history to record the rare triple-double. ¢ Pollmiller and Ole Miss’ Amanda Philpot have the league’s only two triple-doubles this season. Philpot tallied 11 kills, 14 digs and 36 assists vs. Rice. Pollmiller is currently tied for fifth in the conference with three double-doubles. ¢ Tennessee legend Nikki Fowler was the last to achieve the triple-double for the Lady Vols. As a freshman, Fowler went for 19 kills, 19 assists and 18 digs at Ole Miss on Nov. 2, 2007. She finished her career (2007-10) with 1,649 kills, rankings fourth in the UT volleyball record books.

SEVEN STRAIGHT DOUBLE-DOUBLES

¢ Kelsey Robinson, the defending SEC Player of the Year, is currently tied for the SEC lead with seven double-doubles on the season. Robinson did not achieve the feat in the season opener against Florida State, but has reached double digits in two categories in her last seven matches. ¢ After sitting out last week’s match against George Washington, Robinson posted 18 kills and 12 digs against Boston College and 18 kills and 11 digs against tournament host Maryland to extend her streak to lucky number seven. ¢ She now has 34 career double-doubles. ¢ Robinson’s most impressive double-double this season came in a four set loss against BYU (9/1). She tallied 24 kills and 22 digs in that match. It was the third 20-20 match of her career. She has 20 kills and 20 digs against Ole Miss (10/9/11) and 24 kills and 24 digs against Maryland (8/27/11).

ROBINSON: TSWA PLAYER OF THE WEEK

¢ Just three weeks into the campaign and Robinson has garnered a pair of weekly honors, as the Tennessee Sportswriters Association (TSWA) named her the inaugural winner of its player of the week award on Sept. 5. ¢ Robinson, who was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week after week one, led the Shocker Volleyball Classic with 69 kills and is sitting on seven-consecutive double-doubles. ¢ The defending SEC Player of the Year was named SEC Player of the Week a league-high five times last season. In 2010, she garnered SEC Freshman of the Week honors on two occasions.

SHOCKER CLASSIC

¢ Tennessee posted its second straight 2-1 weekend at Wichita State’s Shocker Volleyball Classic, picking up five-set wins over then-No. 24 Colorado State and the tournament host Shockers. ¢ Robinson led the tournament with 69 kills, tallied a double-double in each of UT’s matches and was named to the all-tournament team for the secondstraight weekend. The hitter registered three 20-plus kill outings and had at least 17 digs in each match. She posted her third-career 20-20 effort with 24 kills and 22 digs in a loss to BYU and tallied 24 kills and 18 digs against the Rams. ¢ Pollmiller became just the second player in program history to record a triple-double with 49 assists, 14 digs and a career-best 11 kills against the Shockers.

Pollmiller was also named to the all-tournament team. ¢ Sophomore Tiffany Baker matched a career-best at the event with 19 kills against CSU, while Cikra stepped up defensively, tallying a team-leading 16 blocks at the tournament. Cikra set a career high with seven blocks against Colorado State.

SEC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

¢ Robinson was named the season’s first SEC Offensive Player of the Week on Aug. 27 for her performance at the Comcast Lady Vol Classic. She finished the tournament with 55 kills, 34 digs, 10 assists and five aces in 12 sets. ¢ Robinson, who was named to the all-tournament team, earned her sixth career weekly honor after leading the league last season with five player of the week awards.

COMCAST LADY VOL CLASSIC

¢ After falling to then-No. 12 Florida State in the home opener, the Lady Vols rebounded to defeat Cincinnati in four sets and upset then-No. 10 Iowa State in a thrilling five-setter to finish second at their event. ¢ Robinson led the tournament in total kills (55), kills per set average (4.58) and aces per frame (0.42) and recorded back-to-back double-doubles. ¢ Mullins finished the event with a team-high 42 digs, while Pollmiller dished out 107 assists and recorded a double-double against Iowa State. ¢ For their efforts, Robinson and Mullins both landed on the Comcast Lady Vol Classic All-Tournament Team.

¢ Tennessee is returning all six starters and its starting libero in 2012: seniors Leslie Cikra and DeeDee Harrison, junior Kelsey Robinson and sophomores Mary Pollmiller, Tiffany Baker and Shealyn Kolosky.

Junior Ellen Mullins is the returning starting libero for the Orange & White. In addition, the Lady Vols also welcome back redshirt senior Kayla Jeter, who spent the 2011 campaign sidelined with a knee injury. ¢ Robinson set the tone for the Big Orange last season, earning AVCA Second Team All-American honors. The 6-foot-2 outside hitter became the first UT player to be named SEC Player of the Year after leading the league in kills (4.52/set), points (5.15/set) and double-doubles (23), while rating second in service aces (.35/set). She was also named a Volleyball Magazine All-American and earned AVCA All-South Region honors. ¢ Harrison, Baker and Cikra all earned AVCA AllAmerican Honorable Mention honors last season after helping guide UT to its first outright SEC title. Harrison, a First Team All-SEC member and AVCA AllSouth Region honoree, led the conference in blocks (1.14/set). Baker was tabbed to the All-SEC Second Team and the SEC All-Freshman Team after averaging 2.48 kills/set. The 6-foot-4 outside hitter earned College Volleyball Update National Player of the Week honors on Nov. 1. Cikra was named First Team All-SEC and earned AVCA All-American Honorable Mention accolades after hitting a scorching .330 in league matches last season. Cikra was also named to the AVCA’s All-South Region squad. ¢ Pollmiller - the team’s 5-foot-10 setter - returns for her sophomore season after a record breaking freshman campaign. After leading the nation’s freshmen with 11.94 assists per set, she was named the 2011 SEC Freshman of the Year, the AVCA’s All-South Region Freshman of the Year, an AVCA All-American Honorable Mention, to the AVCA All-South Region Team and to the All-SEC Second Team. Pollmiller rewrote the Tennessee record books, setting single-season marks in total assists (1,480) and assists per set (11.94) during the 25-point rally scoring era. She was just the second Lady Vol to be named the league’s rookie of the year (Nikki Fowler, 2007). ¢ After tearing her ACL in last season’s preseason practice, Jeter returns to the squad in 2012. The 5-foot-11 outside hitter earned 2011 Preseason All-SEC Team honors before being sidelined. In 2010, Jeter was named an AVCA All-American Honorable Mention, to the AVCA All-South Region Team and First Team All-SEC. ¢ Also returning for UT is senior Jasmine Brown, sophomores Stephanie Stoll and Nikki Brice, and redshirt freshman Mercedes Vaughn.

WHO’S NEW? ¢ The Lady Vols welcome six newcomers, including four freshmen. After winning a National Championship last season with UCLA, Olivia Okoro joins the squad as a transfer in 2012. Whitney Heeres, who transferred from Ball State also joins the Orange & White. ¢ Freshmen setter Bianca Arellano - an AVCA Under Armour All-American, Volleyball Magazine/Rox Girls’ Fab 50 List and Arizona’s Gatorade Volleyball Player of the Year - joins the Lady Vols. ¢ Rookie middle blocker and California native Alex Lynch joins the club after never losing a league match in high school with Bishop O’Dowd High. ¢ Local product Megan Hatcher - an all-state defensive specialist at Webb School of Knoxville - joins the team in 2012. ¢ Lastly, freshman outside hitter Ashlyn Sunseri is now a member of the Lady Vols after playing high school ball at Northridge in Tuscaloosa, Ala. She earned all-state honors her senior season. Her father, Sal, is the defensive coordinator of the Tennessee football team.

UT VOLLEYBALL HONORS ¢ After capturing its first outright SEC title last season, the Tennessee volleyball team has been unanimously selected to repeat as league champions in a preseason vote by the league’s 13 coaches.

With coaches not allowed to vote for their own teams, UT received the maximum 12 first-place votes.
