AT FIRST GLANCE

LOTS OF HISTORY VS MOREHEAD STATE ¢ Tuesday’s matchup with Morehead State will mark the 34th time the Vols have suited up against the Eagles. That ties with Clemson for the most games played by UT against a non-conference outof-state opponent. ¢ Every game between UT and MSU has been played in Knoxville with the Big Orange holding a commanding 31-2 lead in the all-time series. Morehead’s only two wins came in 2002 and 2008. ¢ Freshman RHP Kyle Serrano will make his ninth career start against the Eagles on Tuesday. As a starter, he is 3-1 with a 5.20 ERA and 26 strikeouts over the course of 36.0 innings. ¢ Tennessee has been terrific in non-conference action this season, posting an 18-4 record outside of SEC play. Included in that mark are series wins over a pair of ranked teams in UNLV and Arizona State.

FINAL WEEK TO DECIDE VOLS’ FATE ¢ Currently 11th in the SEC standings, Tennessee is looking for its first berth in the SEC tournament since the 2007 campaign. ¢ The Vols (11-16) are currently one game behind Kentucky (12-15) but hold the series tiebreaker, UT is also one game ahead of Georgia (10-16-1) and Auburn (10-17). ¢ Tennessee will host SEC-leading Florida to close out the regular season, Thursday through Saturday. ¢ Prior to its series finale against the Gators on Saturday, UT will honor its five seniors – Pierce Bily, Scott Price, Dalton Saberhagen, Taylor Smart and Nick Williams – with the traditional Senior Day ceremony.

RHP Blake Smith (Jr., 1-1, 5.91 ERA)

VOLS DROP TIGHT SERIES IN STARKVILLE ¢ Facing No. 21 Mississippi State on the road, Tennessee narrowly dropped an incredibly hardfought series, despite not playing from behind for even a single out all weekend, thanks to a pair of extra-inning losses at the hands of the Bulldogs after a heart-pounding series-opening win on Friday. ¢ The story of the weekend was pitching as the two squads scored just seven runs each over the three games. After playing 30 errorless innings to open the series, UT committed two costly miscues in the 12th inning of the finale to allow the Bulldogs to win the third game, 4-3, and the series, two games to one.
