AT FIRST GLANCE
VOLS CONTINUE SEC SLATE AT #2 SC ¢ The No. 21 Tennessee Volunteers continue their early SEC schedule with a three-game series against the No. 2 South Carolina Gamecocks this weekend. ¢ For the first time this season, Tennessee dropped back-to-back games and lost a series as Auburn came to Knoxville and took two out of three last weekend. The Vols salvaged their SEC home-opening series with an 8-6 win on Sunday to improve to 19-4 overall and 3-3 in league play. ¢ In 105 years of baseball at Tennessee, the Vols got off to the best start in program history to start 2014, winning their opening 12 games. ¢ Through 23 games, this is the Vols’ best start since 2004, when UT started the campaign 20-3. ¢ South Carolina holds a commanding 51-34 advantage in the all-time series, including wins over the Vols in 13 of the last 14 meetings. The series dates back to 1912. ¢ The Gamecocks also lead by a 29-14 margin in games played in Columbia. ¢ South Carolina swept the Vols in Knoxville last season. Tennessee’s last series win over the Gamecocks game in 2006 in Columbia, when UT took two out of three. ¢ Tennessee has won five out of its six weekend series and all five of its midweek games this season. ¢ The Volunteers won just 22 games and two SEC series (Missouri, at Kentucky) last season.
WHAT A DIFFERENCE A YEAR MAKES ¢ To the right is a team comparison of key stats between Tennessee last season and the 2014 Diamond Vols over the first 23 games of the season.
