Big Orange Slices... The All-Time Series Against Tennessee State  Tennessee leads its all-time series against Tennessee State by a perfect 9-0 total, including a 6-0 mark in Knoxville. Under the guidance of Co-Head Coaches Ralph and Karen Weekly, the Big Orange holds a 7-0 record against Tennessee State. Last season on March 15 in Nashville, Tenn., the Lady Vol softball squad spotted TSU a 1-0 lead after two frames before erupting for three tallies in the third, five in the fifth and eight in the sixth in rolling past the Tigers, 16-2 (6 inn.). Outfielder Kat Dotson was truly a one-woman wrecking crew against Tennessee State, going 3-for-4 with a three-run HR, her first career grand slam and a staggering nine RBIs. That RBI total broke former Lady Vol Carrie Swinford’s 15-year-old single-game school record of eight RBIs established back on April 2, 1996, in a win over Wingate during the year prior to the Southeastern Conference’s beginning sponsorship of the sport of softball. Great Against Teams in-State!  The Lady Vols have made a habit of dominating its series’ with in-state schools since starting the UT program in 1996. All-time, the Orange & White is now an incredible 102-3 OVERALL against a combination of 10 Tennessee schools. Co-head coaches Ralph and Karen Weekly have gone 68-0 against in-state programs since arriving at Rocky Top. UT HAS ALSO WON 74 STRAIGHT GAMES AGAINST IN-STATE OPPONENTS SINCE SUFFERING ITS LAST DEFEAT BACK ON MARCH 22, 2000, AGAINST MTSU. In fact, two of Tennessee’s three all-time in-state losses came against Chattanooga when coached by...Karen Weekly in 1999. The Lady Vols are 17-0 against Austin Peay, 16-0 against Tennessee Tech, 17-1 versus Middle Tennessee, 15-0 versus ETSU and 14-0 against Belmont. UT is also 9-0 versus Tennessee State, 6-0 against Lipscomb, 3-2 against Chattanooga, 4-0 versus Memphis and 1-0 against UT-Martin.

2012 LADY VOL SOFTBALL HONORS

Taking a Look at the Ratings Percentage Index (RPI)  The most recent NCAA Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) has been released for 2012 (April 16) and the Southeastern Conference currently boasts five of the top 20 teams (#2 Alabama, #3 TENNESSEE, #6 Florida, #17 Georgia, #20 LSU), and eight of the top 50 (#29 Auburn, #31 Mississippi State, #38 Kentucky). The RPI is one of the factors utilized by the NCAA in handing out tourney seeds and slots in the annual Field of 64. Tennessee already owns wins over RPI #2 Alabama, #4 Arizona State and #6 Florida this season. We’re Going Streaking...Again!  The Big Orange are currently riding a SEASON-LONG 13-GAME WINNING STREAK dating back to its last loss on April 4 against #9/10 Georgia. UT had already recorded a nine-contest winning skein this season from Feb. 24-March 9. This marks Tennessee’s longest winning streak since winning 13 consecutive match-ups from April 3-April 22, 2011. The most recent streak longer than 13 games occurred back from Feb. 7-March 6, 2009, when UT won 17 straight match-ups. OUCH...That Hurts!  Hit by pitch is not a category you’d ever want to lead the Lady Vol history books in, but it’s worth a mention nonetheless. Junior outfielder Kat Dotson has been hit 27 times in her career, trailing only former All-American Tonya Callahan’s 30 for the all-time Big Orange lead. That’s an awful lot of bruises needing a lot of ice, but demonstrates the willingness to stand strong in the batter’s box and take the shot. There’s Just Something About the Fifth Inning  The Lady Vol offense really seems to enjoy the fifth inning in 2012. Tennessee has put up 57 RUNS DURING THE FRAME this season and has sent at least nine batters to the plate during the fifth on six different occasions. Back on Feb. 9 against UCSB, nine Lady Vols went to the dish in totaling three runs, while on March 16 at Arkansas nine more visited the batter’s box in registering five tallies. UT dug itself out of 2-0 deficits against both Radford (April 10) and #22/21 LSU (April 15) in the fifth by sending 13 (eight-run inning vs. RU) and 11 batters (five-run inning vs. LSU) to the plate, respectively. During the series at South Carolina, the Big Orange used a six-run fifth-inning outburst in rolling to an 8-0 (5 inn.) rout in the opener, and totaled four tallies during the fifth frame of the finale to sweep the series, 6-3. Entering the DH against Tennessee State, Tennessee has totaled 27 runs in the fifth inning over its last nine games. Ivy’s Surging Once Again...  Junior pitcher Ivy Renfroe has made a habit of getting stronger as seasons go on during her career at Tennessee. If her recent performance is any clue, the Jackson, Tenn., native may be beginning her surge at a vital time as UT ventures into the late conference and postseason slates. The 6-0 right hander got this recent upswing started with a tremendous 11-inning effort in a tough loss at #1 Alabama on March 21 and has continued it to 10 CONSECUTIVE DECISION VICTORIES since that defeat, including one over #9/10 Georgia and a pair against #22/21 LSU. Over her last 11 starts, Renfroe is 10-0 with a 1.45 ERA, five complete games, four solo shutouts and 59 strikeouts over 67.2 innings.

Notes... Can’t Keep Them Off the Base Paths!  The opposition has been having some serious issues in keeping a couple of Lady Vol players off the base paths recently. Junior third baseman Raven Chavanne has reached base successfully in a CAREER-BEST 29 CONSECUTIVE CONTESTS dating back to March 11 when the Thousand Oaks, Calif., native failed to reach in the series finale against #3/4 Florida. Junior second baseman Lauren Gibson recently saw her streak of reaching successfully snapped at 16 straight games (dating back to March 23 at Mississippi State) in the doubleheader against Memphis on April 17. For Chavanne, some of that ability to reach game-after-game comes from the fact that she’s one of the toughest players in the nation to strikeout, ranking 12th in all of NCAA Division I in that category after K’ing just four times in 136 total at-bats (as of April 16) Gibson has walked an impressive 38 times in 2012 and owns a team-best 12 HR’s, including her first career inside-the-park HR against Radford on April 10. Maddi the Magnificent...  It’s hard to describe just how dominant sophomore Madison Shipman was at the plate during the week of April 3-9, but I’ll give it a try. On her way to ESPNU Capital One Impact Performer of the Week (April 7) and her initial SEC Player of the Week (April 9) accolades, the 6-1 shortstop hit .350 overall with a triple, four HR’s and 13 RBIs over a five-game stretch. The Valencia, Calif., native homered in all three games against the Tigers, and four times overall at AU, blasted her third career grand slam during the 9-1 (5 inn.) series-opening win over Auburn and registered a career-high two HR’s in Tennessee’s 6-2 victory in the finale. She also recorded a clutch RBI triple and later scored in the 10th inning to break a 3-3 dead-lock during the 5-3 (10 inn. ) win at AU while her two-RBI single during the third frame of the DH finale against #9 Georgia on April 4 proved the game-winner as Tennessee topped the ‘Dogs, 2-1. Shipman recently went on a CAREER-LONG 10-GAME HITTING STREAK (from April 4-April 17) and leads the league (counting SEC contests only) RBIs (30), rates in a tie for fifth in HR’s (six) and runs scored (18), is sixth in hits (26) and 12th in slugging percentage (.633) . Overall, counting all contests, Shipman possesses a .327 batting average (53-of-162) with nine doubles, a triple, nine HR’s and a SEC-leading 54 RBIs. A Rugged Slate  Tennessee hasn’t been bashful about facing off against top competition thus far in 2012. The Big Orange has already faced off against 16 TEAMS THAT WERE PART OF THE 2011 NCAA TOURNAMENT FIELD OF 64, posting a 20-7 record in those match-ups. Included are victories over #1 and defending national champion Arizona State, San Diego State, Texas Tech, Western Michigan, #20/17 Georgia Tech, Illinois State, Memphis, #3/4 Florida, #1 Alabama, Kentucky (two wins), #9/10 Georgia, Auburn (three wins), #22/21 LSU (three wins) and Memphis (two wins) with losses against #4/3 Cal, at #13 Texas, vs. #3/4 Florida (two defeats), #1 Alabama, Kentucky and #9/10 Georgia. Watch Out for the Lady Vol “Big Inning”  The Lady Vols have long made the “Big Inning” a major part of its offensive repetoire. So far in 2012, Tennessee has plated at least three runs in an inning 34 TIMES. In fact, UT has posted at least one three-run



Notes... outburst in a frame during 28 OF ITS 49 GAMES played this season. To this point the largest single frame scoring total came in the fifth inning of the 8-2 win over Radford on April 10 as the Big Orange put up eight tallies. Another Impressive Streak!  Once SEC play is officially underway, the Tennessee Lady Vol softball team definitely doesn’t make losing in non-conference action a habit. In fact, the last time UT took a break from an in-progress SEC regular season campaign and dropped a non-league contest was way back on April 23, 2003, with a 1-0 loss to Virginia Tech at the State-Line Classic in Bristol, Tenn. The Big Orange has since won 77 CONSECUTIVE GAMES versus nonconference, regular-season opponents during breaks from its rugged SEC slate. Hard to Catch Raven!  Opposing catchers must have nightmares consisting of Tennessee speedster Raven Chavanne swiping bases. The Thousand Oaks, Calif., native hadn’t been thrown out on the base paths since March 11, 2011, at Kentucky, during which time she STOLE 40 CONSECUTIVE BASES, before finally being caught on April 15 in the series finale against #22/21 LSU. The junior third baseman had played in 83 games for the Big Orange over that stretch. During her career in the Orange & White, Chavanne has only been caught 11 times with six of those having occurred in her freshman campaign. As a junior she has stolen 23 bases in 25 attempts, a 92% success percentage. Bring on the Extra Softball  Tennessee now owns an 12-5 mark over its last 17 extra-inning contests since the start of the ‘09 season. The defeats in extra frames over the last four years occurred on March 21, 2010, when UT dropped a hard-fought, 7-6 contest to #6 Georgia in eight innings, on March 13, 2011, in Lexington, Ky., when the Big Orange suffered a heart-breaking, 5-4 loss in 10 innings to #23 Kentucky, on February 19, 2012, in a 3-2 (9 inn.) defeat at #13 Texas, on March 21, 2012, in a 3-2 (11 inn.) loss at #1 Alabama and in a 3-1 (11 inn.) defeat to #9/10 Georgia on April 4, 2012. Only once in program history prior to this season had Tennessee played three 10-inning contests during a single year (2004). The 2012 campaign marks the first time in Lady Vol history that the Big Orange have been through two 11-inning games in the same season. It’s a Walk-Off!  No...not that kind of walk-off like from the movie “Zoolander,” but rather softball victories in the final atbat. Tennessee owns FIVE WALK-OFF WINS during the 2012 campaign, three of the run-rule variety and another two via regulation, with all of them occurring at Lee Softball Stadium. The first came during an 8-0 (5 inn.) triumph over ETSU on March 3 as junior Whitney Hammond singled in the winning tally in the fifth. On March 9 in the series opener against #3/4 Florida, a Gator error on a dropped throw at first with two outs in the bottom of the seventh allowed Shelby Burchell to plate the winning run in a 1-0 victory. A passed ball in the sixth allowed junior Melissa Brown to cross from third and end the second game of the DH against Furman on March 27, 8-0 (6 inn.). With a storm threatening to end the series finale against Kentucky in a 2-2 tie on April 1, Burchell proved heroic, beating the rain by approximately three minutes with a walk-off, two-run HR to center field as Tennessee rallied past UK, 4-2. Most recently, freshman Hannah Akamine contributed a two-RBI single to conclude a 10-2 (6 inn.) triumph over #22/21 LSU on April 15. Who Scores First REALLY Matters  A trend has developed in 2012 as the team that scores first during Tennessee softball contests usually ends up putting the “W” in the victory column. THE LADY VOLS ARE 34-6 THIS YEAR WHEN TALLYING THE FIRST RUN ON THE SCOREBOARD AND JUST 6-3 WHEN THEIR OPPONENT SCORES FIRST. The only occasions that saw the Big Orange score first and lose were one-run defeats suffered against #13 Texas, Winthrop and #1 Alabama, a 4-1 loss at Arkansas, a 5-3 defeat to Kentucky and a 3-1 (11 inn.) loss to #9/10 Georgia. Two Outs Just Means It’s Time to Produce  Two outs in an inning...that just means its time to do some serious damage if you’re Tennessee. The Lady Vols have now registered 87 two-out RBIs this season, meaning 39% of their total RBIs have come with two retired in a frame. During its three-game sweep at Auburn over April 6-8, UT managed a remarkable 13 two-out RBIs. Just Say No...Hitter  Tennessee pitchers have already totaled TWO NO-HITTERS this season, improving the program’s all-time total to a staggering 38. Sophomore Ellen Renfroe registered her first collegiate no-hitter with an 8-0 (6 inn.) victory over Furman on March 27. Her sister, junior Ivy Renfroe, picked up her fourth career no-hitter, blanking Murray State back on March 4 during the Tennessee Classic. The duo has also just missed putting up four more no-nos this season. Ivy blanked Furman until there were two outs in the top of the seventh on March 27 before giving up a single and took a no-no 6.1 innings against #22/21 LSU on April 14 before allowing a hit. Ellen permitted a HR with two outs in the top of the seventh to #9/10 Georgia on April 4 and had a perfect game going into the fourth frame at Auburn on April 6 before allowing a HR and settling for a one-hitter in a 9-1 (5 inn.) triumph. Four-time All-American Monica Abbott leads UT’s career no-hitter list with an amazing 23 no-nos, while Ivy Renfroe rates second with four, followed by Megan Rhodes (three), Stephanie Humphrey and Stacey Jennings (two each), Ellen Renfroe, Buffy Walker, Leigh Ann Ellis and Jackie Beavers (one each). Put Raven Out There to Start...She’ll Likely Be There Anyway  Raven Chavanne makes a habit of getting the Lady Vol offense off and running to open games. The Thousand Oaks, Calif., native has now reached base leading off UT’s first turn at the plate 18 TIMES IN HER 41 GAMES (44%) during 2012. Included in that total are nine singles, two triples, a double, five walks and a hit by pitch. Notes... set the table for the UT offense (30-of-64 in 2012, 47%) Quick Out of the Gate  The Lady Vols usually waste no time in jumping on their opponents, as Tennessee has registered at least one run during the first inning in 20 of their contests in 2012 and are 15-5 in those match-ups. The largest outburst of the campaign in the initial frame was six tallies during a 10-3 win at Mississippi State on March 26. IN FACT, 42 OF THE LADY VOLS’ RUNS HAVE COME IN THE FIRST INNING, MARKING IT AS THE SECOND-HIGHEST SCORING FRAME FOR THE BIG ORANGE THIS SEASON. Exceptional Ellen!  Tennessee sophomore pitcher Ellen Renfroe picked up this year right where she left off in 2011, roaring through the Kajikawa Classic with a 5-0 record, a 1.13 ERA, three solo shutouts and 48 strikeouts in 31 innings of work. The Jackson, Tenn., native didn’t allow a run over her first 27 innings of the season, topped the 10+ strikeout mark on three different occasions and fired a shutout against #1 and defending national champion Arizona State on its home field. Over the last two years the 6-0 right-hander has also downed the previous year’s national champion, defeating the 2010 champ UCLA (7-1) on Feb. 26, 2011, and now 2011 champ Arizona State on Feb. 11, 2012. For her efforts, Renfroe was tabbed as the SEC Pitcher of the Week (Feb. 14) for the third time in her career and was chosen as a “Primetime Pacesetter of the Week” by CollegeSports360.com. The 2011 All-American currently rates as one of the top pitchers in the nation, sporting a 25-3 record, a 1.22 ERA and 256 strikeouts. In league play she’s at 12-3 overall with a 1.14 ERA and owns wins over #3 Florida (March 9), #1 Alabama (March 21) and #22/21 LSU (April 13). She has now registered SIX CAREER VICTORIES OVER TEAMS RATED #1, #2 OR #3 IN THE POLLS AT THE TIME OF PLAYING. She was named the SEC Co-Pitcher of the Week on March 26, after going 3-0 with a 0.78 ERA on UT’s “Spring Break” road trip to #1 Alabama and Mississippi State. Until allowing a pair of runs at #1 Alabama in a 5-2 UT win on March 21, Renfroe had recorded a streak of 27 STRAIGHT SCORELESS FRAMES that began on March 9 vs. #3/4 Florida. Renfroe currently leads all of NCAA Division I in shutouts with 15, is fifth in victories and sixth in K’s as of April 24. Got Talent on the UT Bench!  Tennessee is currently second in the SEC in total pinch hits (with 14 this season over 53 at-bats) and in pinch-hit batting average at .264 (14-for-52). Two of those 14 pinch hits have been home runs as senior Cat Hosfield and sophomore Melissa Davin came off the bench to blast big flies during victories over Georgia Southern on March 13. Senior utility player Shelby Burchell blasted a pinch-hit, two-run double in the 8-0 (5 inn.) win at Arkansas on March 16, senior Holly Baker had a RBI single in the sixth frame of a 10-3 win at Mississippi State (March 24), Davin knocked in a pair via a single in a 9-1 (5 inn.) rout at Auburn on April 6 and Morgan Fowler singled off the wall as UT topped Radford (April 10), 8-2. Most recently on April 15, freshman Hannah Akamine ripped a pinch-hit base knock to center for two walk-off RBIs as Tennessee downed #22/21 LSU, 10-2 (6 inn.) Putting an End to Streaks...  Tennessee has made a habit over the past few seasons of putting an end to some lengthy winning streaks by the opposition. The Lady Vols ended #1 Alabama’s 26-GAME WINNING STREAK with a 5-2 triumph on March 21, 2012, and #3/4 Florida’s 10-GAME WINNING SKEIN on March 9, 2012, with a 1-0 victory in the two teams’ series opener at Lee Softball Stadium. During the 2011 campaign, UT managed to stop Georgia’s 37-GAME HOME VICTORY STREAK that dated back to April 2010, ceased then-#1 Alabama’s 13GAME WINNING STREAK with a 4-1 home win on March 22 and later rolled in Baton Rouge, La., over April 15-17, ending then #21 LSU’s 11-GAME VICTORY RUN. Back during the 2010 NCAA Super Regionals, the Big Orange visited Ann Arbor, Mich, and stopped THEN-NO. 2 MICHIGAN’S TWO-YEAR-LONG, 36-GAME HOME STREAK. When Facing #1  The Big Orange improved its all-time record against #1 to 7-14 with a 3-0 shutout win over #1 and defending national champion Arizona State back on Feb. 11, at the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Ariz., and by splitting a DH (L, 2-3 in 11 inn., W 5-2) at #1 Alabama on March 21 in Tuscaloosa, Ala. The UT program also owns prior victories over #1 Alabama (two regular-season wins-2007; regular-season win in 2011), Michigan (win at WCWS-2005) and UCLA (win at WCWS-2006). The Lady Vols have now faced off multiple times against #1 during a single campaign on six occasions: 2000 (0-3 vs. #1 UCLA), 2005 (0-1 vs. #1 Cal, 1-1 vs. #1 Michigan), 2007 (2-0 vs. #1 Alabama), 2009 (0-4 vs. #1 Florida), 2011 (1-1 vs. #1 Alabama). and 2012 (1-0 vs. #1 Arizona State, 1-1 at #1 Alabama) The most victories over #1 in a single season is two, occurring in 2007 when UT swept the Crimson Tide in a home DH at Tyson Park on May 6, 2007, and in 2012 with wins over Arizona State and Alabama. Ring-A-Round the Lineup Card  Tennessee’s offense has made a habit in recent years of taking numerous trips through the batting order while putting up big run totals. So far in 2012, the Lady Vols have turned the trick 15 TIMES, including performing the feat in back-to-back innings during the victory over Murray State (3/4). Tennessee has also sent eight batters to the dish on 12 other occasions, just missing adding even more turns through the batting order to its overall total. Walk This Way!  The Tennessee Lady Vols are taking the art of drawing walks to a high level thus far in 2012. UT boasts 187 FREE PASSES OVER THE FIRST 49 GAMES OF THE SEASON FOR A 3.8 WALK-PER-GAME RATE. At this current pace, the Big Orange would draw approximately 213 free passes over a standard 56-game regular season. The school record of 268 walks established by the 2008 squad over 66 contests. Tennessee drew a season-best 13 free passes during the 9-6 win over Western Michigan on Feb. 12. Junior second baseman Lauren Gibson is currently third in the league with 38 walks. A Fixture in the Rankings!  The Lady Vols have a habit of finding themselves in the rankings according to the USA Today/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) poll. TENNESSEE HAS NOW BEEN RANKED IN EACH OF THE LAST 131 POLLS DATING BACK TO THE PRESEASON RELEASE OF THE 2004 SEASON. A big opening weekend in ‘04 boosted UT from unranked status into the Top 25 at No. 19 and the squad hasn’t left since. The highest ranking achieved by Tennessee during that span occurred in 2007 when UT spent 11 consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the way to a national runner-up finish. Tennessee opened the 2012 campaign at #9 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll and at #14 in the USA Today/NFCA rankings. Dominant in February & March Since the Weeklys Arrival  Since the Weeklys arrived in 2002 to take over the Tennessee program, the team has seen incredible success during the opening month of the season. IN FEBRUARY, THE BIG ORANGE BOAST A RECORD OF 153-29-1 SINCE STARTING 2002 AND ARE A STAGGERING 106-13 SINCE THE BEGINNING OF 2005. Tennessee won 33 straight February contests during a streak that stretched from the opening of the 2006 campaign through part of 2008 until a 4-1 loss to USF on Feb. 17, 2008. The only February defeats since ‘05 are to No. 1 California (2005), Notre Dame (2005), USF (2008), No. 21 and eventual ‘09 national champ Washington (2009), No. 6 and eventual ‘10 national champ UCLA (2010), UCF (2010), Pacific (2010), No. 10 & 19 Stanford (2010 & 2011), UNLV (2011), #4/3 California (2012), #13 Texas (2012) and Winthrop (2012). Opening the Conference Slate  The Big Orange now stands at 10-6 all-time in Southeastern Conference openers after topping #3/4 Florida in the 2012 league lidlifter at Lee Stadium on March 9, 1-0. With sophomore pitcher Ellen Renfroe three-hitting the powerful Gator line-up while recording a season-high 15 strikeouts, UT managed a walk-off victory in the bottom of the seventh inning. Senior utility player Shelby Burchell got the decisive rally started with a lead-off single, eventually moving to third via a sac bunt and a groundout. Lady Vol freshman pinch hitter Hannah Akamine hit a bouncer that just cleared the glove of UF pitcher Hannah Rogers before being fielded on the run by Florida’s second baseman Katie Medina. Her toss to first was in time, but was dropped as Burchell cruised home to set off Big Orange jubilation. Bitten by the Injury Bug  The injury report was a major factor in the early part of Tennessee softball’s campaign. Lady Vol junior third baseman and two-time NFCA All-American (2010, 2011) Raven Chavanne suffered an avulsion fracture of her right thumb in January, necessitating surgery that kept her out of action through the Kajikawa Classic (Feb. 9-12). Expected to return for a few at-bats during the Time Warner Invitational in Austin, Texas, over Feb. 17-19, weather issues limited her opportunities and kept her off the field. Chavanne returned to the line-up with a vengeance at the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Clearwater, Fla., hitting .632 overall on the way to Most Valuable Player honors and has played every game since. Junior outfielder (2010 All-American and 2011 NFCA All-Southeast Region selection) Kat Dotson continues her recovery from off-season surgery on her right knee. She played in just two games at the Kajikawa Classic before being declared unavailable for the remainder of the weekend, but did get at-bats in the designated player spot at the Time Warner Invitational, the NFCA Leadoff Classic amd the Tennessee Classic. Home Openers = Victory  Throughout Lady Vol softball history, the first contest of the year in the friendly confines of either Tyson Park or Lee Softball Stadium has usually equaled victory for the Orange & White. Tennessee has won its last 12 home openers dating back to a 6-5 home-opening loss to Kansas on March 10, 2000, and holds a 16-1 MARK ALL-TIME IN KNOXVILLE LIDLIFTERS. Under the guidance of co-head coaches Ralph and Karen Weekly, UT is a perfect 11-0 in such match-ups. The Big Orange christened the 2012 home campaign with a commanding 7-0 victory over Memphis on March 3. Tennessee Classic History  Since getting back in the business of hosting tournaments with the opening of the Lee Softball Stadium prior to the 2008 season, the Lady Vols have registered a PERFECT 24-0 MARK (20-0 combined in the 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 & 2012 Tennessee Classics and 4-0 at the 2010 Tennessee Invitational). Since the Weeklys arrival to start the 2002 campaign, UT is 34-0 in its home-hosted, regular-season tourneys. Over the entire 17-year program history, the Big Orange maintains a 85-13 overall mark in regular-season tournaments in Knoxville. We Love the Spotlight  The Tennessee Lady Vols are SET TO BE FEATURED ON TELEVISION 11 TIMES during the 2012 campaign via ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, SportSouth, CSS or The Longhorn Network (at Texas on Feb. 19). UT is 5-3 thus far on television in 2012 with wins over #1 Alabama, #9/10 Georgia, Auburn and #22/21 LSU (two wins) and losses to #13 Texas, #1 Alabama and #9/10 Georgia. Seven of Tennessee’s televised games will take place within the friendly confines of Lee Softball Stadium. UT will make its league television debut on the road at Alabama on March 21 as CSS will disseminate both ends of the doubleheader against the Crimson Tide (5 p.m. ET). The Orange & White makes it TV home debut at Lee Stadium on April 4 with CSS slated to televise both games of the Lady Vols’ DH against Georgia (5 p.m. ET). For a pair of weekends in April, Tennessee might as well call ESPN/ESPNU home as UT will venture down on “the Plains” for an April 7 match-up at Auburn (2 p.m. ET/ESPNU) before returning home to host LSU on April 14 & 15 in a pair of contests to be distributed live via ESPN at noon and 4 p.m. ET, respectively. Finally, the Big Orange will host Ole Miss over April 27-29 with all three contests being shown via SportSouth. SINCE HEADING OUT TO OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLA., FOR ITS FIRST TRIP TO THE WOMEN’S COLLEGE WORLD SERIES IN 2005, THE TENNESSEE LADY VOL SOFTBALL TEAM HAS BEEN FEATURED ON TELEVISION A STAGGERING 84 TIMES. Loads of Recent Success vs. the Pac-12  The Lady Vols have enjoyed a great deal of success since the start of the 2005 season against the powerful Pacific-12 Conference. Tennessee is 18-12 IN ITS LAST 30 CONTESTS AGAINST EIGHT MEMBERS OF THE LEAGUE, going 5-5 vs. Arizona, 3-0 against Oregon State, 3-2 against UCLA, 2-0 vs. Oregon, 2-2 vs. Stanford, 1-1 against Washington, 2-0 vs. Arizona State and 0-2 against California. Current Lady Vol players are just 4-7 against the Pac-12, however, but own wins over #1 Arizona State (2/11/11), #2 UCLA (2/26/11), #3 Arizona (WCWS-6/3/10) and Oregon State (2/21/09). The Best of the Best  With three inclusions on the Top 50 “Watch List” for the 11th-annual USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Year award, the No. 9 Tennessee softball squad equaled Cal, Florida, Michigan and Texas for the most selections by a single program in the nation as Lady Vol junior third baseman Raven Chavanne (top 10 finalist last season), junior second baseman Lauren Gibson and sophomore pitcher Ellen Renfroe were each tabbed to the prestigious list. Tennessee softball can boast at least one player included on the organization’s preseason “Watch List” for nine consecutive seasons (2004-2012), including other former Lady Vol All-Americans such as Monica Abbott, Kristi Durant, Sarah Fekete, Lindsay Schutzler, Tonya Callahan and Tiffany Huff. This marked the sixth time in the last seven years (2006, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012) that the Lady Vols had at least two players chosen to the national watch list. UT had a program-high four individuals (Abbott, Durant, Fekete, Schutzler) included on the 2006 “Watch List” and three incorporated as part of the “Watch List” in 2007 (Abbott, Callahan, Schutzler), 2011 (Chavanne, Kelly Grieve, Ivy Renfroe) and now 2012. Tennessee Among Preseason Faves in SEC & Eastern Division  The Tennessee Lady Vol softball squad received five of 11 possible first-place votes for overall champion and was picked second behind Florida in the races for both the SEC’s regular season and Eastern Division titles according to the 2012 preseason poll of the league’s 11 softball coaching staffs. With 15 accumulated points the Big Orange trailed the defending Eastern Division champion Gators (14 points) by only a single tally in the divisional ranking, while coming up just a single vote behind UF as the preseason pick for regular-season champion. No. 13/18 Kentucky (32 points), No. 10/12 Georgia (35 points) and South Carolina (48 points) rounded out the five programs in the East. The SEC Eastern Division currently boasts three of the top 12 squads in all of NCAA Division I according to the preseason ESPN.com/USA Softball poll and four of the top 14 in the initial USA Today/NFCA listing. The two-time defending regular season champion Alabama Crimson Tide (10 points) was the unanimous choice by the coaches to secure the SEC Western Division crown. The gap between No. 3/2 UA and No. 22/20 LSU (19 points) was nine points while Auburn ranked third with 28 tallies. Mississippi State (40 points), Arkansas (46 points) and Ole Miss (54 points) completed the SEC West standings. Back in the Red, White & Blue!  Junior infielder Lauren Gibson helped the USA Softball Women’s Senior National Team to gold medals at both the World Cup of Softball VI (July 2011) and the XVI Pan American Games (Oct. 2011). In an announcement made on January 11, 2012, the Pasadena, Md., native found out she was included among the roster of 12 players to the 2012 USA Softball Women’s Senior National Team that will compete at the World Cup of Softball VII in Oklahoma City, Okla., the Canadian Open Fast Pitch International Championship in Surrey, B.C., Canada, and the ISF XIII Women’s World Championship in Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada. Junior third baseman/outfielder Raven Chavanne and sophomore pitcher Ellen Renfroe were also included among a group of 11 players that accepted invitations to try out for one of the five remaining spots on the 17-member Senior Women’s National Team or for the roster of the 2012 USA Softball Women’s Elite National Team at the USA Softball Selection Camp in June. The Women’s Elite National Team will compete at the 2012 World University Games in Colorado Springs, Colo. On her way to being chosen as USA Softball’s nominee for the U.S. Olympic Committee’s Female Athlete of the Month for October (2011), Gibson hit an impressive .529 overall (9-for-17) with eight runs scored, a double, three triples, a HR and eight RBIs while going 3-for-3 on stolen bases and slugging at a 1.118 clip during the Red, White & Blue’s gold medal run at the Pan Am Games in Guadalajara, Mexico. The second baseman was 1-for-2 for Team USA during the title match-up against Canada, blasting a tone-setting, first-inning solo home run to go along with three runs scored and an RBI in the 11-1 (4 inn.) triumph. Making a Memorable First Impression  If freshman pitcher Cheyanne Tarango gets a start in the circle, the Anaheim Hills, Calif., native will attempt to become the 11th Lady Vol pitcher to win in her starting debut. Former Lady Vols Christy Anch, Sarah Ayres, Leslie Poole, Buffy Walker, Megan Rhodes, Monica Abbott and Ashton Ward join Cat Hosfield and both Ivy and Ellen Renfroe as the only hurlers to claim their initial starts at Tennessee. At the Stetson Leadoff Classic in DeLand, Fla., on Feb. 12, 2001, then-freshman Ellen Renfroe became the 10th Lady Vol pitcher to win her starting debut while clad in the Orange & White by tossing a complete-game, three-hit shutout with six K’s versus Stetson.
