NOTEWORTHY NOTES TENNESSEE VS. OKLAHOMA

¢ This week’s Norman Super Regional is a rematch

of the thriling 2013 Women’s College World Series Championship Series. ¢ The Lady Vols and the Sooners gave fans one of the most thrilling games in softball history in Game 1 of the title series on June 4, 2013. In a pitcher’s duel between Ellen Renfroe and Keilani Ricketts, Madison Shipman ended a long stalemate with a three-run homer in the top of the 11th inning. OU answered with three runs in the bottom of the 11th and two more in the bottom of the 12th off a walk-off homer by Lauren Chamberlain that gave the Sooners a 5-3 win. ¢ Tennessee is 3-2 all-time vs. Oklahoma, winninng the first three meetings between the teams (two in 2009, one in 1010).

This year’s Super Regional matchup marks the second-straight year and the third time that Tennessee will face the defending national champion in the Supers. In 2006, Tennessee defeated 2005 National Champion Michigan in three games in Knoxville. In 2013, UT topped 2012 champ Alabama in two games in Knoxville.
