¢ UT totaled seven event titles and six runner-ups at last week’s Virginia Tech Invitational. Linda Hadfield highlighted the action for UT, besting an indoor school record in the women’s pole vault. The quartet crossed the line in 11:31.37 to win the event. ¢ For the Vols, Jamol James – one of the team’s top sprinters – picked up a win in his first career long jump event with a leap of 24-2.5. LAST SEASON’S MONDO CHALLENGE
¢ Last season, UT collected two victories and five runner-up finishes, and provided 22 other point-producing performances at the Mondo Challenge. The SEC tallied 216 points to hold off the Big 12 (214) and the Pac-12 (178) on the women’s side. In the men’s competition, the Big 12 prevailed with 277.25 points, followed by the Pac-12 (227.25) and SEC (164.50). ¢ The Lady Vols contributed heavily to the SEC’s triumph. UT’s DMR opened the event by posting a NCAA qualifying time and one of the fastest marks in school history as the squad covered the distance in 11:02.74 to record a second-place finish and the fifth-best readout in the event in UT history. ¢ The Vols provided a 1-2-3 sweep in the pole vault, as former Vol Robert Rasnick and then-sophomores Chase Brannon and Tyler Porter placed first, second and third, respectively.
