FIRST SERVE

¢ Tennessee concludes the 2014 season on the road in a rematch with Alabama on Sunday at 2 p.m. ET. ¢ The Lady Vols enter the season finale having lost eight straight matches, tying its longest such streak of the season. UT fell to Arkansas, 3-1, in its last match on Wednesday night in Knoxville. ¢ Saturday marks the 48th meeting all-time between the Lady Vols and Crimson Tide and the 22nd meeting to be played in Tuscaloosa. Tennessee is 13-8 when visiting Alabama, but dropped their last match at Foster Auditorium by a 3-0 score line. ¢ In Wednesday’s match vs. Arkansas, UT was led by a career performance from senior middle blocker Shealyn Kolosky. Donning the orange and white in front of the home faithful for the final time in her career, Kolosky finished with a career-high 12 kills on a .500 hitting percentage. ¢ It was only the second time this season that Kolosky had led the Lady Vols in kills and just the second double-digit kill performance from the senior in 2014. ¢ Libero Megan Hatcher had a team-high 15 digs on Wednesday night and is now averaging 4.25 digs per set over her last six matches. ¢ Hatcher has now overtaken fellow defensive specialist Bridgette Villano for the team lead in kills per set. Each half of the duo ranks inside the SEC’s top 20 in the category. Hatcher’s 3.11 is the 11th-best mark in the league with Villano not far behind in 13th at 3.01. ¢ Middle blockers Iesha Bryant and Raina Hembry also rank inside the SEC’s top 20 in blocks per set. The duo has combined to lead the team in total blocks in 26 of UT’s 31 matches this year, each pacing the squad 13 times, respectively. ¢ Bryant stands 9th in the conference, averaging exactly 1.00 b/s and Hembry, who has had the team lead in blocks in three of the last five matches, ranks 15th at 0.92 b/s. The duo combined for five blocks on Wednesday night -- three from Bryant and a pair from Hembry.

KOLOSKY SHINES ON SENIOR NIGHT

¢ Prior to first serve of Wednesday’s match vs. Arkansas, lone senior Shealyn Kolosky was honored as she wraps up her four-year career at Tennessee. ¢ A four-year player for head coach Rob Patrick, the Wheaton, Illinois native turned in one of her strongest performances of the year in her farewell match. ¢ With 13 kills on 22 swings with only two errors, Kolosky set a new career-best in kills, besting her previous record of 11. She also finished the night with seven blocks, matching her season-high and falling just three shy of her career-high. ¢ The 13-kill outburst marked just the second time this season that Kolosky had led Tennessee in kills and was also just her second double-digit kill match of the year. ¢ The only member of the Tennessee squad to have appeared in two NCAA Tournaments, Kolosky is averaging 1.48 kills per set and 0.68 blocks per set with a teamleading .284 attack percentage as a senior.

Requests for working media credentials should be directed to volleyball contact Kellen Hiser. Those wishing to attend a match are asked to call the Media Relations Office to be placed on the pass list. Photo credentials will be issued only to accredited photographers or those individuals on special assignment. Because there are specifically designated areas for photographers, we ask that anyone shooting a Lady Vol volleyball match at Thompson-Boling Arena check with Kellen prior to the start of the contest.

RADIO

Thompson-Boling Arena is available for radio broadcasts through UT Telephone Services. In order to access these lines, those interested in broadcasting a particular match need to inform the UT Athletics Media Relations Office in writing at their earliest convenience and no later than three weeks prior to the contest. Radio stations also will need to contact UT Telephone Services at (865) 974-3121 to order a telephone line for use at the contest(s).

STATISTICAL SERVICES

Services provided include statistics generated from the StatCrew computer program. Match statistics will be handed to all attending members of the media and sports information personnel after every game. Following the conclusion of the match, final statistics will be faxed/emailed to the visiting sports information director’s fax/ email list. Results will also be emailed to the sports information contact of visiting teams at the conclusion of the match in lieu of a sports information representative traveling with his or her team. Arrangements should be made in advance for any additional services.

INTERVIEWS

Interviews will be available following the match after a 10-minute cooling-off period. Media wishing to interview the coaches or any players other than on game days are required to set up interviews with 24 hours notice through Kellen Hiser in the UT Media Relations Office.

getting 53 of its team’s 71 total kills from the trio of Krystal Rivers (26), Kat Hutson (16), and Brittany Thomas (11). ¢ Rivers, the SEC’s leader in kills per set at 4.31, was named to the All-SEC team last week alongside teammate Hutson, who appeared on both the All-SEC list and the All-Freshman Team. Hutson ranks fourth in the league in kills per set at 3.61. ¢ In piecing together one of the best attacking offenses in the country, Alabama has relied on the steady play of setter Sierra Wilson. The setter leads the SEC in both total assists (1,423) and assists per set (11.66). She finished with 56 in five sets on Wednesday in Columbia. ¢ As a team, the Crimson Tide rank third in the conference in kills per set at 13.88. ¢ Alabama holds a staunch 11-1 record at home this season. The Crimson Tide went 4-0 at Foster Auditorium in non-league play and is 7-1 in SEC action with their lone home loss coming to Ole Miss on Oct. 19.

¢ All three are high school seniors and will enroll at UT in the fall of 2015. Each member of the trio also hails from the Upper Midwest with Jeter coming in from Solon, Ohio, Schumacher from Hartford, Wis., and Treiber from Unionville, Mich. ¢ Jeter is a four-time letter winner at Solon HS and an honorable mention all-district performer as a junior.

She played club with the Maverick Volleyball Club and is the younger sister of former UT All-American Kayla Jeter. ¢ Schumacher was one of just two liberos in the state of Wisconsin to earn all-state honors this fall.

She set Hartford Union HS’s career record for digs (1,831), averaging 5.3 digs per set for her career. ¢ Treiber is one of the top recruits out of the state of Michigan. She averaged 5.1 kills per set for her high school team, earning an honorable mention nod on the AVCA Under Armour All-American team.

ARKANSAS 3, TENNESSEE 1 ¢ Tennessee suffered its third loss of the season when winning the opening set in nine tries on Wednesday night, dropping a 3-1 decision to Arkansas. ¢ Playing on Senior Night, senior middle blocker Shealyn Kolosky turned in a career offensive performance with a career-high 13 kills to go along with seven blocks. ¢ Following Kolosky, Kanisha Jimenez and Kendra Turner each turned in nine kills apiece, with the former narrowly missing a double-double as she also had 10 digs. ¢ UT was able to keep the Arkansas offense in check for four sets on Wednesday night, but the Razorbacks exploded for a .519 hitting percentage in their fourthset victory that sealed the match. ¢ With the loss, Tennessee closes the 2014 season with a record of 3-10 in home matches.

¢ Tennessee volleyball’s dedicated practice facility, the Joan Cronan Volleyball Center, was dedicated on Oct. 24 and UT began practicing in the new facility that week. ¢ The $3 million dollar facility features three courts, a locker room and lounge, equipment room, film study room, and coaches’ offices. It was constructed adjacent to Regal Soccer Stadium off Neyland Drive. ¢ With the opening of the Joan Cronan Volleyball center, each varsity sport at UT now has its own dedicated practice space. ¢ The facility’s namesake, Joan Cronan, was the women’s athletic director for twenty-eight years at UT and served a three-month term as vice chancellor and director of athletics when the men’s and women’s departments merged in 2011.

now leads the team in both total kills (207) and in kills per set (2.72). ¢ The true freshman found her offensive rhythm and earned a spot in the regular rotation after tallying four kills in the third set of a 3-0 loss to Omaha on Sept. 6. She earned her first start in the very next match at Evansville on Sept. 9. ¢ On Sept. 12, Turner blasted a career-high 19 kills against Kennesaw State, lifing UT to a 3-1 win. Those 19

kills are the most produced by any Lady Vol to that point. ¢ Turner has had seven more matches of 10 or more kills since that outburst, including Tennessee’s only 20+ kill performance this season. She pummeled a career-high 23 kills against Missouri on Nov. 7.

¢ Tennessee true freshman middle blocker Iesha Bryant and sophomore defensive specialist Bridgette Villano were named to the All-Tournament team after helping Tennessee to a 2-1 mark at the the Appalachian Invitational. ¢ Bryant totalled a tournament-best 17 total blocks while also finishing with 16 total kills. ¢ She came away with five total blocks in her first collegiate match against Tennessee Tech, then followed that performance with a weekend-high of eight in a 3-1 win over Cleveland State. ¢ Meanwhile, Villano led the Lady Vols in total digs with 44, including a 16-dig performance against Tennessee Tech.

10 FOR THE ROAD

¢ For the second consecutive season, Tennessee is starting its campaign away from the friendly confines of Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville. ¢ In fact, this season the Lady Vols will play 10 consecutive contests away from home to begin the year. ¢ The 10 consecutive matches on the road mark the longest road trip in head coach Rob Patrick’s 17-year tenure, besting the previous mark of eight set in 1999 and matched in 2011. ¢ It is also the longest road swing for the program since 1996 when it started the year with 11 straight away from Knoxville.

TENNESSEE 11th IN PRESEASON

¢ Two years removed from a trip to the NCAA Tournament, UT was picked to finish 11th in the 2014 SEC Volleyball Preseason Coaches’ Poll. ¢ In 2013, the Lady Vols saw their streak of five straight NCAA Tournament berths snapped following a 9-23 record and a 1-17 mark in SEC play. HEAD COACH ROB PATRICK ¢ Rob Patrick, now entering his 18th season as head coach, has made nine NCAA appearances with the Lady Vols, including a program-best stretch of five straight from 2008-12. ¢ Since taking over the program in 1997, Patrick has become the program’s all-time wins leader. ¢ Tennessee returns five starters from its 2013 squad -- a quintet comprised of senior Shealyn Kolosky, junior Lexi Dempsey, and sophomores Raina Hembry, Jamie Lea, and Ashley Mariani. ¢ Kolosky is the lone senior on the 2014 squad and is coming off a season in which she started all 32 matches. A middle blocker standing at 6-3, Kolosky was sidelined with an injury for much of her sophomore campaign. But the Wheaton, Ill., native stormed back to set a career-high in kills last season with 202.

She also ranked among the team leaders in total blocks, turning in 65 with five solo. ¢ A transfer from the University of Portland, Dempsey burst on to the scene in her first season with Tennessee. The setter finished the year with 16 total double-doubles -- a figure that was the thirdbest in the SEC. Those double-doubles often came in bunches as she strung together streaks two or more double-dips on four separate occasions in 2013. Her best run came in early September when she recorded three in a row against Chattanooga, UNC-Asheville, and UT-Martin. In all, Dempsey saw starts in 31 of 32 matches for the Lady Vols, finishing the season with 976 total assists (8.64/set). She also fired in 19 service aces, the second-best mark on the team. ¢ One of three true freshmen thrust into a starting role in 2013, Hembry proved to be a defensive force at the net. The 6-3 middle blocker posted a team-high 72 total blocks during her opening act at UT. The Portland, Ore., native also finished the year with 147 kills (good for 1.67 per set) and swung at a .171 clip -- the second highest percentage on the team for players with more than 100 attacks. ¢ An outside hitter from Efland, N.C., Lea also wasted little time in making her mark in Knoxville. In her first collegiate action, the 6-2 outside hitter flirted with a triple-double after tallying 10 kills, eight digs, and five blocks. Lea would go on to lead the Lady Vols in kills per set with 2.99 after hammering 281 kills with an attack percentage of .143. Lea was voted a team captain before the season alongside senior Kolosky and junior Megan Hatcher. ¢ Mariani started all 32 matches of her freshman campaign -- the only Lady Vol freshman to do so.

With 292 total kills, the 6-1 native of Arlington, Texas, paced the Lady Vols on the attack. She recorded 13 matches of double digit kills while also compiling 121 digs and 44 total blocks on the season.

ter appearing in only six as a true freshman. Hatcher scooped up 162 digs in 100 sets of action. ¢ Moody, a walk-on, appeared in two sets for Tennessee last season. ¢ A native of Davie, Fla., Villano arrived on UT campus as one of PrepVolleyball.com’s top-250 recruits.

She saw plenty of action during her true freshman season, logging 80 sets played over 29 matches. She finished the year with 162 digs and a .936 reception percentage. ¢ After sitting out last season due to NCAA transfer rules, Tennessee native Kalyn Helton will make her Orange & White debut this fall. Helton played at Lee University as a sophomore, helping guide the Flames to a 30-11 record and a 13-1 mark in conference play.

She spent her freshman year at Harding University where she was named Conference Freshman of the Year.

She was recognized as a PrepVolleyball. com High School All-American, Under Armour AllAmerican Honorable Mention, Max Preps High School All-American, and to the American Family Insurance All-USA Volleyball Team. ¢ Texas native Iesha Bryant is a 6-1 middle blocker that joins the Lady Vols following a 2013 District 203A Overall MVP award following her senior season at Carthage HS. Bryant closed out her senior campaign with 481 kills and 103 blocks. She was also a standout in both basketball and track & field. ¢ From California comes Kelsey Bawcombe, a libero turned outside hitter with a wealth of experience at the highest level of club competition. Twice she competed at the Junior Olympics with the 951 Elite Club Volleyball team, earning both a bronze medal and a fifth-place finish. As a senior at Temecula Valley HS, Bawcombe was named to the Southwestern League First Team. ¢ Kanisha Jimenez arrives in Knoxville with a wealth of international experience. The Bayamón, Puerto Rico, native has competed for her country’s junior and national teams, earning a bronze medal at the Norcerca Continental Championships in 2013. She represented Puerto Rico at the U-20 World Cup last summer and made her national team debut the following fall at the Grand Prix of the International Volleyball Federation. ¢ Kendra Turner joined the fold in early June following the completion of her high school career at Riverside Academy in Reserve, La. While there, Turner earned New Orleans Area All-District Volleyball Team and NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune All-New Orleans Area Volleyball Team honors under the direction of cousin and high school head coach Chelsey Nicholas. ¢ Rounding out the freshman class is Corona, Calif., native Sabrina Tavakoli. A four-year letterwinnner and two-time captain at Centennial HS, Tavakoli was named All-League during each of her high school seasons. including first team recognition after her junior and senior years. She spent the high school offseason training with the Mizuno Long Beach Volleyball Club. ¢ Taylor Johnson will also be making her Orange & White debut this season after starting off her collegiate career at Long Beach State. The California-born setter saw action in seven sets over four matches for the 49ers last season after completing a high school career that featured two first team All-League and All-Valley selections.
