FIRST SERVE
¢ Tennessee continues a stretch of seven games over nine days when it meets the Evansville Purple Aces for a midweek match on Tuesday night. ¢ The match is the first all-time between the two programs and marks the 15th meeting between UT and a current member of the Missouri Valley Conference. ¢ The Lady Vols are 8-6 all-time against MVC foes, including a 1-1 mark under head coach Rob Patrick. ¢ It is also the first time that Tennessee has ventured into the state of Indiana since 2005 when it faced Purdue in West Lafayette. ¢ Tuesday’s match against Evansville is the only match on the non-conference schedule to be contested outside the tournament setting. ¢ UT is 0-2 on the season in true road matches. ¢ Currently, Tennessee ranks second in the SEC in digs per set. As a team, the Lady Vols are turning in 15.79 digs per game, led by libero Bridgette Villano and her 4.05 digs per set. Freshman Kanisha Jimenez is averaging 3.53 scoops per set. ¢ True freshman Iesha Bryant is second in the SEC in blocks per set, turning away 1.53 attacks per set.
IOWA STATE CHALLENGE
¢ The Lady Vols are playing their fourth match in five days after participating in the Iowa State Challenge last weekend in Ames, Iowa. ¢ Kanisha Jimenez had 17 kills on the weekend to lead the team, followed by 16 apiece from Raina Hemrby and Jamie Lea. The freshman nearly had her second double-double of the season against Omaha, finishing the match with seven kills and 12 digs. ¢ Thirteen Lady Vols saw the floor in the tournament finale against Omaha, including five true freshmen. Kendra Turner made the most of her one set, smashing four kills at a .375 clip. Kelsey Bawcombe also had four kills for the match and Iesha Bryant posted four total blocks.
EVANSVILLE PURPLE ACES
¢ The Purple Aces are riding a two-game winning streak coming into Tuesday’s match. UE wrapped up the Kent State Tournament with a pair of wins, claiming a 3-0 sweep over New Hampshire and a 3-1 victory against Morehead State. ¢ Helping lead Evansville to its recent successes has been the play of senior Ashley Ring. The Madison, Wisconsin, native was named Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week on Monday after turning in 69 kills over the Aces’ four matches last week.
