FIRST SERVE

¢ Tennessee faces its highest-ranked opponent of the 2014 season when it welcomes No. 8 Florida to Thompson-Boling Arena on Sunday. ¢ Sunday marks the 59th meeting all-time between the Lady Vols and Gators in a series that dates back to 1978. UF leads the series 44-13-1. ¢ The Gators claimed both meetings between the programs last year, taking identical 3-0 decisions in both matches. The wins snapped a three-match winning streak for UT over UF that covered the 2011 and 2012 seasons. It was Tennessee’s second-longest winning streak over UF in series history. ¢ In their most recent action, the Lady Vols fell, 3-0, at No. 18 Kentucky on Wednesday night. The loss dropped UT to 0-3 against ranked foes this season and just 1-8 on the road. ¢ Kendra Turner led the Lady Vols with 12 kills on the night, giving her five matches this season of double digit kills. It was also the sixth time this season she has paced UT in the kills column. ¢ Ashley Mariani recorded 11 kills for the second straight match at UK -- her fourth match of the year with 10 or more kills. ¢ DS/L Bridgette Villano and RS Kanisha Jimenez are each ranked inside the SEC’s top 20 in digs per set. Villano holds the No. 11 spot with a 3.26 digs per set average while Jimenez sits at No. 20, averaging 2.60 scoops per frame. ¢ Junior setter Lexi Dempsey and fresheman Iesha Bryant are currently the only Lady Vols to rank inside the SEC top 10 in any statistical category. Dempsey’s 8.16 assists per set and Bryant’s 1.02 blocks per frame are both good for 10th in the league. ¢ Tennessee posted a season-best attack percentage of .291 in its home win over Ole Miss on Oct. 26. That figure is also the second-highest for UT over the last two seasons.

ABOUT #8 FLORIDA

¢ The Gators are the only unbeaten team in SEC play and enter the match ranked eighth in the AVCA Coaches Poll. ¢ With UF’s 3-0 win over Georgia on Wednesday night, the Gators are now on a 12-match winning streak -- the 11th longest active streak in the country and the longest in the SEC. ¢ Florida has dropped only two sets through 11 conference matches (3-1 wins at LSU and South Carolina). ¢ Middle blocker Rhamat Alhassan currently ranks second in the NCAA in hitting efficiency. The true freshman owns an attack perentage of .463, converting 189 kills on 315 swings with just 43 errors. It’s also the top mark in the SEC. ¢ As a team, the Gators have posted an attack percentage of .305 -- the best figure in the SEC by 40 points and the fourth-best in the country. Conversely, UF also leads the league in opponent hitting percentage, limiting foes to an attacking clip of just .159 this season. ¢ Sophomore right side Alex Holston currently leads the team in kills at 3.49 per frame. She posted 12 kills in Athens on Wednesday night, doing her damage on a .526 attacking clip. She completed the double-double with 11 digs along the way. ¢ Florida is 6-1 on the season in true road matches, including a victory at No. 6 USC on Sept. 12. Its only blemish came in Tallahassee in a tough 3-2 loss to then No. 8 and now No. 3 Florida State.
