AT FIRST GLANCE RECORD-BREAKING NUMBER OF ROOKIES

¢ With 18 freshmen on this year’s roster, Tennessee set the school record for the highest percentage of true freshmen on an Opening Day roster when it hit the field last Friday in Las Vegas. True freshmen make up 56.25 percent of this year’s roster, with 18 of 32 players. That breaks the previous record of 53.66 percent previously set in 1989. ¢ Most True Freshmen (Pct.), UT History Year Fr. Total Pct. of Freshmen 2013 18 32 56.25% 1989 22 41 53.66% 2006 13 29 44.83% ¢ The 18 true freshmen on the Opening Day roster also ranks second in school history behind only the 1989 season when the Vols had an incredible 22. ¢ Most True Freshmen (Total), UT History 1989 22 2013 18 2012 13 2006 13 ¢ The 18 true freshmen tie for the most of any team in NCAA D-I this season, matching Florida A&M.

AND THEY PLAY TOO...

since 1990 to hit in the cleanup slot for the Vols on the first day of a new season. The last UT player to do so was Doug Hecker against ETSU on Feb. 21, 1990.

TEAM 104

¢ The strength of this year’s team looks to be the chemistry and closeness the players have developed. One of their primary battle cries has been “Team 104,” representing the fact that they are the 104th team in UT baseball history. ¢ As part of developing that family dynamic, the Vols all wear “Team 104” dog tags with the words, “Character, Discipline and Effort” engraved on them. ¢ This year’s Volunteer squad, the second under hed coach Dave Serrano, consists of 11 returning players and 21 newcomers, including 18 true freshmen.
