NOTING THE VOLUNTEERS The Tennessee baseball team will return to the diamond after a five-day layoff when it hosts Georgia this weekend. The Vols were scheduled to open the homestand against Western Carolina on Wednesday, but a sudden and extremely heavy downpour nixed those plans. The Big Orange is coming off its first SEC series win of the season as it claimed a pair of seven-inning victories in a doubleheader at No. 24 Alabama last weekend. Behind a stellar effort from junior Steven Gruver in the first game, the Vols claimed a 2-1 decision to snap a nine-game skid. UT then got strong performances out of sophomore Nick Blount and freshman Nick WIlliams in game two, which it won, 1-0. . SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS Georgia enters this weekend's series with an even .500 record at 19-19 overall, including a 9-7 mark in SEC play, which puts it fourth in the SEC Eastern Division. The Bulldogs dropped two of three to No. 4 Florida in Athens last weekend and a 5-2 midweek decision to 21st-ranked Clemson on Wednesday. The team's unquestioned ace, junior RHP Michael Palazzone (6-1, 2.13 ERA, 41K, 5BB, 63.1 IP) has four wins over Top 25 teams this year, adding #4 Florida to the list this past Saturday beating them 7-2. He held the league's top offense to 1R on 6H in 8 IP, shutting them out for the first 7.1 IP. In SEC action, Palazzone is 4-0 with a 1.56 ERA. His consecutive innings pitched without a walk ended Saturday at 38.2. At the plate, sophomore SS Kyle Farmer (.295-4-33) owns a career-best 15-game hitting streak. He hit .462 (6-for-13) with flawless defense in 18 total chances against the Gators.
