TEAM NOTES AND STORYLINES uThroughout the offseason, the Vols have been solely focused on doing what is needed to improve daily, using the acronym W.I.N. (What's Important Now) and the phrase, 'Don't count down the days, make the days count,' as means of motivation. uWith the arrival of new assistant coach and baserunning guru Ash Lawson and the new bat standards, UT has changed its offensive philosophy a bit. Instead of waiting for the longball, the Vols should be much more aggressive on the basepaths this season. uTennessee's pitching depth should be much improved this season with the addition of eight new pitchers to the staff and seven returners. The junior college quartet of Jerod Peper, Levi Dean, T.J. Thornton and Zack Godley, should provide an immediate impact. uThe Vols return three-fourths of their starting infield, which played a large role in helping the team finish 24th in the nation at .974 in 2010. The only addition, first baseman Josh Liles, should improve the overall athleticism of the infield as well.

INDIVIDUAL NOTES AND STORYLINES uThe Vols have two players trying their hands at a new position this season in senior Josh Liles and junior Matt Ramsey. Liles will move from centerfield to first base, while Ramsey will spend time catching after playing the outfield and designated hitter last season. Ramsey will also serve as the team's closer. uFreshman Andrew Toles will look to make an immediate impact as Tennessee's starting centerfielder. The speedy rookie was drafted in the fourth round last June by the Florida Marlins.

He is the son of former Vol wide receiver Alvin Toles and the nephew of former UT running back Johnnie Jones.

MEDIA INFORMATION Media Credentials Media credentials will be issued to members of the working media only. Children and other non-workers will not be allowed. Requests for credentials should be made by calling Assistant Media Relations Director Cameron Harris at least one day in advance of each home game or series. All credentials not picked up at the Media Relations Office will be left at the ticket will call window at the main entrance of the stadium.

Interview Policy Players and coaches are available for interviews during weekly media opportunities or by appointment arranged through Assistant Media Relations Director Cameron Harris.

Interviews with coaches or players while the team is on the road also should be arranged through Cameron Harris.

Postgame Interviews Tennessee head coach Todd Raleigh is available to meet any working member of the media following the game on the field at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. Media are asked to conduct player interviews on the field, and media members are not permitted in the clubhouse area.

Interviews with visiting team members also may be done on the field, subject to the policy of the visiting team’s media relations representative.

Photographers Media credentials are required for all photographers and television media. All credentials not picked up at the Media Relations office will be left at the ticket will-call window at the main entrance of the stadium.

Photo decks are located atop the stairwells behind the first- and third-baselines. There are also photo field-level photo wells at the far end of each dugout. Both still and television photographers are welcome to shoot from these spots. Television crews are welcome to film from the mezzanine level underneath the press box.

Photographers will not be permitted in or between the dugouts.

The Press Box The Lindsey Nelson Stadium press box is for working members of the media only. The press box is located atop the grandstand behind home plate and includes space for working members of the press, official and visiting scorers, public address announcer and scoreboard operator.

Also located on the press level are two radio booths and a television/VIP booth. Admission to the press box is by credential only.

Press Box Services Updated cumulative statistics, game notes and scorecards, along with team rosters, will be available in the press box at each home game. A final box score will be compiled and distributed at the completion of each game.

An official scorer is assigned to all home games, and Cameron Harris will keep the media informed of all scoring decisions, notable facts and records.

Telephones The Lindsey Nelson Stadium press box is equipped with two telephones for use by the media only. Each radio booth is equipped with two courtesy phone lines and an ISDN line, use of which will be granted on a reciprocal basis. Visiting radio crews needing assistance should contact Assistant Media Relations Director Cameron Harris at (865) 974-8876.

Internet High-speed wireless Internet is available in the Lindsey Nelson Stadium press box, including both radio booths and the television booth. There also are a limited number of DSL connections available for use by the media in the press box (but not in the radio booths), and phone lines for dial-up access are available as well. Fourth Season Western Carolina, 1991 Record at UT: 83-84 (.497) Career Record: 340-293 (.537) Tennessee head coach Todd Raleigh is in his fourth season at Rocky Top after guiding his alma mater, Western Carolina, for eight seasons.

While at UT, Raleigh has had 12 players drafted, including two in 2008 and five more in both 2009 and 2010, and two more sign free-agent contracts following the completion of their eligibility. Nine of those players were drafted in the top-20 rounds, highlighted by 2009 first-round selection Kentrail Davis. In 19 seasons as a collegiate coach, Raleigh has now produced a total of 45 MLB draft picks and 63 professional players.

Under Raleigh's guidance, the Vols have steadily moved up in the NCAA RPI in each of the last three seasons, improving from 91 in 2008 to 58 in 2009 and 45 in 2010. Over the past two seasons, Raleigh’s squads have belted out 168 round-trippers (87 in 2009, 81 in 2010), good for the second-most prolific two-year period in school history.

During his tenure in Cullowhee, Raleigh’s clubs won two regular-season Southern Conference championships, one Southern Conference tournament title, turned in five top-three league finishes and made a pair of NCAA Regional appearances—reaching the Regional final both times.

His 2007 WCU team posted a winning record against teams in the top 35 of the RPI and earned a rare mid-major at-large bid to the NCAA Championships. The Catamounts were touted by ESPN’s Kyle Peterson as featuring an “SEC-style offense.”

In his 19 seasons as a collegiate assistant or head coach, Raleigh’s teams have finished third or better in their respective league 12 times (63 percent).

Raleigh and his wife, Stephanie, have four children: Caleb John “Cal” (13), Emma Grace (11), Carley Elizabeth (4) and Todd Anthony “T” (1).

It is going to be a critical year in that area because of all of the bat changes and he has done a tremendous job revamping our efforts on that part of the game. We stole a lot of bases last year, but I think we are going to step it up another level this season and put a lot of pressure on opposing teams.”

— Head Coach Todd Raleigh “We have been working on a lot of small ball stuff. We don't have as many power guys, so we have to get back to the basics. A lot of bunting, base running and just small ball stuff. It's not a traditional team like we have had in the past but we are getting use to it. Top to bottom, it's just a group of scrappy guys. We are going to score runs in many different ways and put pressure on the other team to make mistakes."

— Senior First Baseman Josh Liles “Our attitude is one of high intensity. That is one thing that we have focused on in our practices and scrimmages this fall and leading up to the spring. The chemisty on this team is definitely improved over what it has been in the last couple of years. We have a close-knit group and a group of seniors to lead us. We've set the bar high from the very beginning. The SEC Tournament is a bare minimum."

NOTEWORTHY ROCKY TOP BLOODLINES Freshman centerfielder Andrew Toles was born to bleed orange. A fourth-round selection by the Florida Marlins last June, Toles decded to put his professional career on hold in order to attend the same school where his father and uncle both excelled on the gridiron.

His father, Alvin, was a hard-hitting linebacker at Tennessee (1981-84) before being drafted in the first round of the 1985 NFL draft by the New Orleans Saints. His uncle, Johnnie Jones, also is the fourth-leading rusher in Tennessee history (82-84) and spent time with the Seattle Seahawks in the NFL and the Hamilton TigerCats in the CFL. His mother, Vicky, meanwhile, played basketball at the University of New Orleans, and his sister, Morgan plays basketball at Auburn.

NEW FACES IN THE CROWD The Volunteers return 17 players, including seven starters, from last year's squad which finished with a record of 30-26. Joining them is a talented group of 14 newcomers, headlined by freshman Andrew Toles, a fourth-round pick by the Florida Marlins in the 2010 MLB FirstYear Player Draft, and last year's Tennessee Gatorade Player of the Year, Ethan Bennett from Farragut High School.

NEW FACES ON THE COACHING STAFF In addition to the 14 new players, Tennessee also welcomes a pair of new coaches in assistant coach Ash Lawson and volunteer assistant Barrett Shaft.

A former head coach at Tennessee Wesleyan, Lawson comes to Rocky Top from the San Diego Padres for whom he was a regional crosschecker. He was named the Padres' Scout of the Year in 2006.

Shaft is in his first season as a volunteer assistant after serving as a manager for the team last year. He is a 2008 graduate of Western Carolina.

Bennett was named a 2010 Louisville Slugger High School All American, Tennessee Gatorade Player of the Year and TBCA Class AAA Player of the Year after setting a state single-season record with 27 home runs. He also hit .420 with 73 RBIs and scored 57 runs and set the national record for home runs in consecutive games, belting 16 during a 10-game stretch in April.

Williams also played a big role in leading Farragut to three straight state titles with Bennett, going 19-0 with 137 strikeouts and an 0.85 ERA during his three seasons on the varsity squad.

THE COLOR ORANGE ESPN is set to air a feature-length documentary on former two-sport Tennessee star Condredge Holloway, entitled "The Color Orange," this Sunday at 8 p.m.

The documentary, produced and directed by country music star Kenny Chesney, details Holloway's collegiate career as the first black quarterback in the SEC. In addition to his exploits on the gridiron, he also served as the starting shortstop at UT, garnering first-team All-America recognition in 1975 after hitting .396 with 20 RBIs and two home runs.

The Vols will kick off the inaugural sevenweek series, a first for the sport, when they host defending NCAA National Champion South Carolina at 7:30 p.m. on April 7 at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. UT will then take part in the event the next week as well when it travels to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to square off with Alabama on April 14. Both contests will be televised nationally on ESPNU which is now available in 73 million homes.

In addition to the two Thursday night games on ESPNU, the Volunteers will also take to the airwaves on April 1 and 2 at Florida, April 30 at Vanderbilt and on May 14 at LSU. All four additional games will air on CSS. All games from the 2011 SEC Tournament will continue to be televised as well, with the championship game airing again nationally on ESPN2. Including SEC Tournament games, a total of 68 SEC baseball broadcasts will air in 2011 as part of the official SEC package.

The television package is derived from broadcasts on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, FSN, SportSouth, CSS and CST. In addition, ESPN3 will also stream most broadcasts live online.

SEC schools maintain the rights to air additional games not included in the official SEC package with various television outlets, including official SEC TV partners. More than 50 additional games are set to be broadcast

by SEC partners via this means, bringing the total number of SEC baseball games broadcast in 2011 to over 120 games.

All games on ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU will be broadcast in high definition.

BASEBALL PARTICIPATES IN LIGHT THE NIGHT WALK, RAISES MORE THAN $5,000 FOR CANCER RESEARCH For the fourth straight year, the University of Tennessee baseball team participated in the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Light the Night Walk Thursday evening at Circle Park on the UT campus. Since becoming involved with the event in 2007, the Volunteers have now helped to raise nearly $30,000, including over $5,000 this year, in support of research into the treatment and prevention of cancer.
