NOTES AND STORYLINES uTennessee won six games in a six-day span last week and has won nine consecutive contests to mark the longest run since head coach Todd Raleigh arrived in Knoxville in 2008. Leading the way last week was senior third baseman Matt Duffy who was named the SEC Player of the Week after hitting .381 and knocking in 12 runs on the week. uThe Vols hold a 149-126 advantage over Kentucky all-time, dating back to 1915. UT claimed two of three from the Wildcats last season in Knoxville. After falling, 8-12, on Friday night, UT won the next two 8-6 and 3-1. uThe Tennessee offense currently ranks first in the SEC in almost every major offensive category with a .338 batting average, .440 on base percentage, .504 slugging pct., 186 hits and 277 total baes. uFreshman Ethan Bennett has hit four home runs in the last four games to grab the team lead. He has recorded multiple RBIs in each of his last six contest and is hitting .542 (13-for-24) with 16 RBIs and nine runs scored during that span. uThe contest with Austin Peay on Wednesday marked the Orange and White's first road game of the year, as Tennessee opened the 2011 season with 16 straight home games. That is the longest homestand for the Vols since they played 22 consecutive games in Knoxville to open the 1963 campaign. uThe Orange and White has been ultra-aggressive on the bases this season, swiping an SEC-high 44 bags in 54 attempts. That is nine more than any other team in the conference. With his league-leading 15, senior Khayyan Norfork alone has as many or more than four different SEC teams. The Vols had nine thefts alone on Feb. 27 vs. Canisius, led by three each from Matt Duffy and Andrew Toles. Khayyan Norfork also had two in that contest. uAfter recording four saves in all of 2010, the Vols already have surpassed that mark with eight saves in 17 games this year. They have come from six different pitchers no less as well (Williams, Steckenrider, Dean, Thornton, Ramseyx2 and Godleyx2). uIn UT's 18-4 win over New Orleans on March 9, Duffy became just the second player in UT history to hit for the cycle, finishing 4-for-6 with three runs scored and four RBIs. Chris Burke is the only other Vol to accomplish the rare feat, doing so against Vanderbilt on May 11, 2001. uUT Opening Day starter junior Steven Gruver has set the tone for the Vol pitching staff so far in 2011, leading the team to a pair of shutouts in his first three starts and throwing a complete game in his fourth. He opened the year with 16.2 scoreless innings, and has struck out 30 while walking just six. uHaving recently scored the 100th run of his career, senior Josh Liles is nearing two more milestones. He needs just one RBI to reach 100 in that category as well, while 36 more hits would make him the 15th player in UT history with 200 hits.

MEDIA INFORMATION Media Credentials Media credentials will be issued to members of the working media only. Children and other non-workers will not be allowed. Requests for credentials should be made by calling Assistant Media Relations Director Cameron Harris at least one day in advance of each home game or series. All credentials not picked up at the Media Relations Office will be left at the ticket will call window at the main entrance of the stadium.

Interview Policy Players and coaches are available for interviews during weekly media opportunities or by appointment arranged through Assistant Media Relations Director Cameron Harris.

Interviews with coaches or players while the team is on the road also should be arranged through Cameron Harris.

Postgame Interviews Tennessee head coach Todd Raleigh is available to meet any working member of the media following the game on the field at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. Media are asked to conduct player interviews on the field, and media members are not permitted in the clubhouse area.

Interviews with visiting team members also may be done on the field, subject to the policy of the visiting team’s media relations representative.

Photographers Media credentials are required for all photographers and television media. All credentials not picked up at the Media Relations office will be left at the ticket will-call window at the main entrance of the stadium.

Photo decks are located atop the stairwells behind the first- and third-baselines. There are also photo field-level photo wells at the far end of each dugout. Both still and television photographers are welcome to shoot from these spots. Television crews are welcome to film from the mezzanine level underneath the press box.

Photographers will not be permitted in or between the dugouts.

The Press Box The Lindsey Nelson Stadium press box is for working members of the media only. The press box is located atop the grandstand behind home plate and includes space for working members of the press, official and visiting scorers, public address announcer and scoreboard operator.

Also located on the press level are two radio booths and a television/VIP booth. Admission to the press box is by credential only.

Press Box Services Updated cumulative statistics, game notes and scorecards, along with team rosters, will be available in the press box at each home game. A final box score will be compiled and distributed at the completion of each game.

An official scorer is assigned to all home games, and Cameron Harris will keep the media informed of all scoring decisions, notable facts and records.

Telephones The Lindsey Nelson Stadium press box is equipped with two telephones for use by the media only. Each radio booth is equipped with two courtesy phone lines and an ISDN line, use of which will be granted on a reciprocal basis. Visiting radio crews needing assistance should contact Assistant Media Relations Director Cameron Harris at (865) 974-8876.

Internet High-speed wireless Internet is available in the Lindsey Nelson Stadium press box, including both radio booths and the television booth. There also are a limited number of DSL connections available for use by the media in the press box (but not in the radio booths), and phone lines for dial-up access are available as well. Fourth Season Western Carolina, 1991 Record at UT: 98-86 (.533) Career Record: 355-295 (.546) Tennessee head coach Todd Raleigh is in his fourth season at Rocky Top after guiding his alma mater, Western Carolina, for eight seasons.

While at UT, Raleigh has had 12 players drafted, including two in 2008 and five more in both 2009 and 2010, and two more sign free-agent contracts following the completion of their eligibility. Nine of those players were drafted in the top-20 rounds, highlighted by 2009 first-round selection Kentrail Davis. In 19 seasons as a collegiate coach, Raleigh has now produced a total of 45 MLB draft picks and 63 professional players.

Under Raleigh's guidance, the Vols have steadily moved up in the NCAA RPI in each of the last three seasons, improving from 91 in 2008 to 58 in 2009 and 45 in 2010. Over the past two seasons, Raleigh’s squads have belted out 168 round-trippers (87 in 2009, 81 in 2010), good for the second-most prolific two-year period in school history.

During his tenure in Cullowhee, Raleigh’s clubs won two regular-season Southern Conference championships, one Southern Conference tournament title, turned in five top-three league finishes and made a pair of NCAA Regional appearances—reaching the Regional final both times.

His 2007 WCU team posted a winning record against teams in the top 35 of the RPI and earned a rare mid-major at-large bid to the NCAA Championships. The Catamounts were touted by ESPN’s Kyle Peterson as featuring an “SEC-style offense.”

In his 19 seasons as a collegiate assistant or head coach, Raleigh’s teams have finished third or better in their respective league 12 times (63 percent).

Raleigh and his wife, Stephanie, have four children: Caleb John “Cal” (13), Emma Grace (11), Carley Elizabeth (4) and Todd Anthony “T” (1).

It is going to be a critical year in that area because of all of the bat changes and he has done a tremendous job revamping our efforts on that part of the game. We stole a lot of bases last year, but I think we are going to step it up another level this season and put a lot of pressure on opposing teams.”

— Head Coach Todd Raleigh “We have been working on a lot of small ball stuff. We don't have as many power guys, so we have to get back to the basics. A lot of bunting, base running and just small ball stuff. It's not a traditional team like we have had in the past but we are getting use to it. Top to bottom, it's just a group of scrappy guys. We are going to score runs in many different ways and put pressure on the other team to make mistakes."

— Senior First Baseman Josh Liles “Our attitude is one of high intensity. That is one thing that we have focused on in our practices and scrimmages this fall and leading up to the spring. The chemisty on this team is definitely improved over what it has been in the last couple of years. We have a close-knit group and a group of seniors to lead us. We've set the bar high from the very beginning. The SEC Tournament is a bare minimum."

THE TALENTED MR. NORFORK (FROM RIPLEY) UT senior second baseman Khayyan Norfork has gotten off to a hottest starts in the nation in 2011, hitting safely in 16 of the first 17 games of the season. He leads the team with 11 multiple-hit contests.

Through 17 games, the Ripley, Tenn., native tops the nation with a .625 on-base percentage and ranks in the top 10 with a .492 batting average and 15 stolen bases. GRUVER SETTING THE TONE ON THE MOUND Junior starting pitcher Steven Gruver has done a fantastic job setting the tone for a UT pitching staff that looks much improved over recent years. In his first three starts alone, he led the Vols to a pair of shutouts before tossing a complete game in his fourth start, So far this year, he has struck out 30 and walked just six in 28.1 innings of work. He went six scoreless against Milwaukee on Opening Day before shutting down Canisius for seven frames on Feb. 26 when he posted a career-high 10 strikeouts. He has now pitched 6.0+ innings seven times in his careers.

In those seven games, he is 5-0 with a 1.12 ERA and 47 strikeouts to just 10 walks.

GRUVER"S 2011 STATS

Senior third baseman Matt Duffy posted one of the most memorable offensive performances in Tennessee history against New Orleans on March 9, 2011, becoming just the second UT player to ever hit for the cycle.

Duffy finished the contest 4-for-6 at the plate with a career-high three runs scored and four RBIs. He had a double in the first inning, a triple in the fourth, his second home run of the season in the fifth and a single in the eighth.

DUFFY PICKING UP RIGHT WHERE HE LEFT OFF After a slow start in 2010, his first at Tennessee, Matt Duffy picked up the pace at the end of the year, leading the Big Orange with a .348 batting average in SEC play.

The transfer from Vermont has picked up right where he left off as he is currently hitting at a .397 clip (23-for-58).

A native of Milton, Mass., Duffy also has the most RBIs of any player in the SEC with 24 and ranks second on the UT squad with a .672 slugging percentage and nine extra-base hits.

BENNETT EN FUEGO After hitting 27 home runs as a senior at Farragut High School, UT freshman catcher/DH Ethan Bennett has wasted little time adjusting to the college game, as he leads the squad with four home runs and is hitting .448 (13-for-29) with 11 runs scored and 17 RBIs through his first nine games.

After missing the first two weekends with a hamstring injury, Bennett has exploded onto the scene with four home runs in the last four games. During that stretch,he is hitting .533 (8-for-15) with 12 RBIs and six runs scored.

QUARTET OF NEWCOMERS DEALING Much of Tennessee's success this season has been due to its much improved pitching staff.

in junior Levi Dean, sophomore Zack Godley and freshmen Carter Watson and Dalton Saberhagen.

The four hurlers have yielded just two earned runs in a combined 48.0 innings of work, paced by 13.2 frames from Watson and 16.0 from Dean.

The four pitchers have allowed just 36 hits and 20 walks while striking out 44. Not to be outdone, there are three other pitchers in the UT stable with clean worksheets in returning hurlers Hunter Daniel, Matt Ramsey and Josh Allman.

VOLS OFF AND RUNNING Prior to the season, there was quite a bit of talk about Tennessee implementing a new, more aggressive baserunning philosophy. The Vols have walked-the-walk so far in 2011 as they have already recorded an SEC leading 44 stolen bases in the first 16 games of the season. By comparison, it took UT 30 games to reach that mark in 2010 and never got there in 2009 when it had just 39 thefts in 55 games.

The new baserunning program was on full display on Feb. 27 against Canisius, when the Big Orange was a near-perfect 9-for-10 on the basepaths, including a pair of double steals and three thefts of third. The last time a Tennessee team had nine stolen bases in one game came against Morehead State on Feb. 8, 2003.

UT had been successful in 20 straight stolen base attempts and 29 of 30 tries before having a runner thrown out on March 9. With a league-leading 15 thefts, senior Khayyan Norfork alone has as many or more stolen bases than four different SEC teams (Alabama, S. Carolina, Georgia, Auburn).

SAVING THE DAY One of the most eye-popping stats for Tennessee this season has come from the back of the team's bullpen. After recording four saves over the course of the entire 2010 campaign, the Vols already have eight saves in the first 17 games this season, with six different pitchers doing the honors no less. Both Matt Ramsey and Zack Godley have two each, while T.J. Thornton, Levi Dean, Nick Williams and Drew Steckenrider each have one.

With eight career saves, Ramsey is currently tied with Clark Odom (97-98) for the sixth most in Tennessee history.

CATAPANO = WINNER Including his two seasons at North Carolina, Tennessee senior and Knoxville native Rob Catapano has started 14 collegiate games. The team he has started for has won all 14 contests, including all five of the games he started in 2010 for the Big Orange and both of his starts so far this season.

SHUTOUT STREAK Prior to its 4-0 victory over Milwaukee on Opening Day (2/18), Tennessee's last shutout came on March 10, 2007, a span of three years, 11 months and eight days (209 games), when James Adkins and Ryne Simpson combined to blank Siena, 5-0, in Knoxville.

It didn't take the Vols to pick up another shutout as they accomplished the feat once again just a week later against Canisius (2/25), also by a 4-0 score. UT picked up another on March 9 with a 14-0 blanking over New Orleans.

RECORD-SETTING ATTENDANCE ON OPENING WEEKEND Tennessee set a new school-record for total attendance in a home-opening series, drawing 6,111 fans (2,037/game) to the three-game set against Milwaukee, Feb. 18-20. The previous record was set in 1997 when the Vols drew 5,877 over three games against Eastern Kentucky. NORFORK EXCELS ON OPENING DAY...AGAIN For the second straight season, Vol second baseman Khayyan Norfork opened the year with a bang.

After going 4-for-5 with two runs scored, an RBI and a stolen base in his UT debut against Xavier in 2010, Norfork kicked off the 2011 campaign with a 2-for4 effort, knocking in three of the team's four runs against Milwaukee in its 4-0 victory.

In his two Opening Day starts combined, Norfork is 6-for-9 (.667) with four RBIs, two stolen bases and two runs scored.

ROCKY TOP BLOODLINES Freshman centerfielder Andrew Toles was born to bleed orange. A fourth-round selection by the Florida Marlins last June, Toles decded to put his professional career on hold in order to attend the same school where his father and uncle both excelled on the gridiron.

His father, Alvin, was a hard-hitting linebacker at Tennessee (1981-84) before being drafted in the first round of the 1985 NFL draft by the New Orleans Saints. His uncle, Johnnie Jones, also is the

2011 TV SCHEDULE The University of Tennessee baseball team will be featured on national television 11 times during the 2011 regular season, its second under the Southeastern Conference's landmark 15-year agreement with ESPN. The Volunteers will be one of two squads to be featured twice on ESPNU's groundbreaking Thursday Night SEC Baseball Game of the Week during the 2011 season.

The Vols will kick off the inaugural seven-week series, a first for the sport, when they host defending NCAA National Champion South Carolina at 7:30 p.m. on April 7 at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. UT will then take part in the event the next week as well when it travels to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to square off with Alabama on April 14. Both contests will be televised nationally on ESPNU which is now available in 73 million homes.

UT-KENTUCKY SERIES HISTORY SERIES HISTORY Friday’s game will be the 276th all-time encounter between Tennessee and Kentucky. The Vols hold a 149-126 lead, dating back to the first meeting between the two teams in 1915. Over the last 10 meetings, however, the Wildcats holds a 7-3 lead.

LAST SEASON The Volunteers took two of three from UK in Knoxville last year. P.J. Polk led the Orange and White by hitting .500 with a pair of home runs and four RBIs in the series. Although the Orange and White got home runs from Polk and Matt Duffy on Friday night, Kentucky hit six longballs to power its way to a series-opening 12-8 win. Tennessee was able to even the series the next day, however, withstanding a Wildcat rally to score twice in the eighth on a two-RBI single by junior Josh Liles to earn an 8-6 triumph. On Sunday, the Vols turned the ball over to Gruver and he provided a gutsy effort on the mound, shrugging off a first-inning run to post five straight shutout frames and earn his third win of the season. The Vols had just six hits on the day, but used some aggressive base-running to make the most out of them. Khayyan Norfork was the catalyst for UT, going 1-for-3 with an RBI groundout and two stolen bases, including one of home plate to give the Orange and White a late insurance run.

NEW FACES IN THE CROWD The Volunteers return 17 players, including seven starters, from last year's squad which finished with a record of 30-26. Joining them is a talented group of 14 newcomers, headlined by freshman Andrew Toles, a fourth-round pick by the Florida Marlins in the 2010 MLB First-Year Player Draft, and last year's Tennessee Gatorade Player of the Year, Ethan Bennett from Farragut High School. All 14 newcomers have already made their way into a game this season.

NEW FACES ON THE COACHING STAFF In addition to the 14 new players, Tennessee also welcomes a pair of new coaches in assistant coach Ash Lawson and volunteer assistant Barrett Shaft.

A former head coach at Tennessee Wesleyan, Lawson comes to Rocky Top from the San Diego Padres for whom he was a regional crosschecker. He was named the Padres' Scout of the Year in 2006.

Shaft is in his first season as a volunteer assistant after serving as a manager for the team last year. He is a 2008 graduate of Western Carolina.

HOMEGROWN TALENT PLENTIFUL ON TENNESSEE ROSTER Tennessee’s roster includes 12 players from the state of Tennessee (38.7 percent of the roster). Five Vols are from Knox County and one is from Sevier County (Seymour), while two others hail from West Tennessee and four are from Middle Tennessee.

Four of the local players hail from Farragut High School, including senior Rob Catapano, junior Matt Ramsey and freshmen Ethan Bennett and Nick Williams.

Bennett was named a 2010 Louisville Slugger High School All American, Tennessee Gatorade Player of the Year and TBCA Class AAA Player of the Year after setting a state single-season record with 27 home runs. He also hit .420 with 73 RBIs and scored 57 runs and set the national record for home runs in consecutive games, belting 16 during Page 6

Williams also played a big role in leading Farragut to three straight state titles with Bennett, going 19-0 with 137 strikeouts and an 0.85 ERA during his three seasons on the varsity squad.

BASEBALL PARTICIPATES IN LIGHT THE NIGHT WALK, RAISES MORE THAN $5,000 FOR CANCER RESEARCH For the fourth straight year, the University of Tennessee baseball team participated in the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Light the Night Walk Thursday evening at Circle Park on the UT campus. THE COLOR ORANGE On Sunday, Feb. 20, ESPN aired a feature-length documentary on former two-sport Tennessee star Condredge Holloway, entitled "The Color Orange."

The documentary, produced and directed by country music star Kenny Chesney, detailed Holloway's collegiate career as the first black quarterback in the SEC.
