2011-12 LADY VOL SWIMMING & DIVING #10 Tennessee (5-1, 2-1 SEC), vs. #2 Florida (7-1, 3-1 SEC) Jan. 28, 2012 | AJIAC| Knoxville, Tenn.

The Regular-Season Finale...

2011 LADY VOL S&D SCHEDULE

Senior Day

 After taking on the then #1 Georgia Lady Bulldogs on the road a week ago, the #10 Tennessee Lady Vol swimming & diving team faces off against #2 Florida at the Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center Saturday at 11 a.m.  Prior to the meet, Tennessee will honor its nine seniors in Abbie Alton, Lindsey Brackens, Kirstyn Colonias, Jenny Connolly, Maddie Garrett, Samara Gelb, Caitlin Perks, Gabrielle Trudeau and Atlantis Wilkins.  Last week Tennessee took nine events against Georgia but suffered its first loss of the season, while Florida defeated now #3 Auburn in its last regular-season home meet.  Saturday’s dual meet will be the last contest for both squads prior to the SEC Championships.  Last season Tennessee was defeated by Florida in Gainesville, 180-120, while winning seven events. The Lady Vols are still searching for their first ever win over the Gators, as UF leads the all-time series 25-0.

Road Warriors

 The Lady Vols have been on the road a lot this season, as five of their first seven meets/invitationals have been away from the friendly confines of the AJIAC. However, being away has not been a problem for UT, as the squad has three dual meet wins on the road as well as placing first at the UNCW Open Water Swim.  The last time UT has been on the road as often as this season came during the 2007-08 campaign, where the team went 3-1 in dual meets and competed in three other invitationals.

A Challenging Schedule

 Florida will be Tennessee’s fourth ranked opponent this year in seven dual meets. The team has wins over Indiana and Louisville, who are now ranked 12th and 24th, respectively. At the Tennessee Invitational, the Big Orange squared off against three top 25 teams in Texas A&M, LSU and Louisville.

The Remaining Schedule

 The AJIAC will also be the site of the 2012 SEC Swimming & Diving Championships over Feb. 15-18. The last time the conference championships were in Knoxville was in 2006 at the Student Aquatic Center.  Tennessee swimmers and divers will have one more opportunity to improve on their season-best times/ scores at the Last Chance Meet over Feb. 24-25 at the AJIAC.  The NCAA Zone B Diving Championships and the NCAA Championships will be held in Auburn, Ala., at the James E. Martin Aquatics Center.

SEC Accolades... UT Has Earned Four SEC Honors

CONTACT INFO

 Molly Hannis was the first Lady Vol to be honored by the SEC, as on Oct. 25, 2011, the conference tabbed her the Freshman of the Week after she won three events in the double dual meet against Indiana and Kentucky. In her collegiate debut, Hannis notched first-place times in the 100y breaststroke and 200y breaststroke and was a member of the winning 200y medley relay squad.  Hannis again earned the accolade on Nov. 22, this time after the Tennessee Invitational, where she qualified for the ‘A’ final in both breast events and competed on the runner-up 400y medley relay quartet.  The league announced on Jan. 10, that redshirt sophomore Tori Lamp was the conference’s Diver of the Week. At the Georgia Diving Invitational, Lamp set a Lady Vol record in the platform and won the event, while also claiming second on the 3-meter boards.  On Monday (Jan. 24), junior Kelsey Floyd was selected as the SEC Swimmer of the Week for her four-win performance against Georgia. At the meet, Floyd was victorious in the two fly events and both relays, achieving B-cut times in every event.
