No. 4/4 Tennessee comes into tonight’s game with a record of 2-0 after throttling in-state foe Chattanooga, 103-43, on Monday night. The Lady Vols set a school record with 15 three-pointers against the Mocs, led by six from senior Angie Bjorklund, who finished with 20 points. Freshman Meighan Simmons continued the torrid start to her career, scoring a game-high 26 points, while sophomore Taber Spani added 14.
Virginia enters this evening’s contest with a perfect 2-0 record on the season. The Cavaliers topped Mount St. Mary’s on Sunday afternoon by a score of 81-58. Junior forward Chelsea Shine poured in 17 points while pulling down 10 rebounds. UVA had four other players in double figures, led by Ariana Moorer and Kelsey Wolfe, who each posted 12 points. Whitny Edwards and Telia McCall added 10 points apiece.

Pat Summitt, in her 37th year as head coach of the Lady Vols, boasts an overall career record of 1,039 wins and 196 losses and eight national championships. Summitt is joined on the sidelines by associate head coach Holly Warlick and assistant coaches Mickie DeMoss and Dean Lockwood.
Head Coach Debbie Ryan is in her 34th year as a head coach, all of which have been spent at UVA. In that time, she boasts a career record of 722-308. She is joined on the bench by associate head coach Tim Taylor and assistant coaches Angel Elderkin and Wendy Palmer.

Tennessee holds a 12-2 lead in the all-time series against the Cavaliers...These two teams faced off on Nov. 22 of last year with Tennessee taking a 77-63 win over No. 12/17 Virginia in Charlottesville...Angie Bjorklund led the way with 24 points for UT, while Shekinna Stricklen chipped in 20...Tennessee’s 15 threepointers against Chattanooga broke the previous school record of 13, set on three different occasions: Jan. 24, 2008 vs. Arkansas, Feb. 6, 2005 at Ole Miss and Nov. 30, 2002 vs. Army...Meighan Simmons earned her first career start on Monday against Chattanooga, making her the 60th freshman ever to start a game for the Lady Vols...UT finished the contest with 25 assists, including 12 on its first 13 possessions...Leading the way in that category was the trio of Kelley Cain, Angie Bjorklund and Simmons with four each...Every player that entered the game for the Orange and White recorded at least one assist...UT forced 22 turnovers and held the Mocs to just 29.4 percent from the field, including 5-of-23 (21.7 percent) in the first half...Sophomore Kamiko Williams was a perfect 6-of-6 from the field for 12 points and pulled down eight rebounds in just 17 minutes of action...Junior Alicia Manning led Tennessee with 10 boards...Knoxville native Glory Johnson recorded 10 points, eight boards and four steals in 17 minutes...In two career games against the Cavaliers, Shekinna Stricklen has averaged 16 ppg and 6 rpg... Virginia is returning to the site of one of the bigger triumphs in program history...On Nov. 17, 2008, the No. 16 Cavaliers knocked off No. 5-ranked Tennessee, 83-82...Whitny Edwards had 13 points in that contest to help push UVA to the upset...Against Mt. St. Mary’s, UVA used a balanced attack, hitting 42.9 percent from the field while forcing 22 turnovers...Virginia shot a blistering 55.2 percent in the second half including 4-of-6 from three-point range... Junior Chelsea Shine was a monster on the glass against MSM, pulling down a game-best 15 boards, 10 of which were offensive... Virginia opened the season with a 82-66 win at Hofstra...In that contest, sophomore guard Lexie Gerson posted a team-best 14 points...Fellow sophomore Simone Egwu had a double-double, finishing with 14 points and 14 rebounds...UVA had an astronomical total of 65 rebounds against Hofstra with 26 coming on the offensive glass...Jazmin Pitts led the way with 17 boards against the Pride...
