KEY STORYLINES IN OPENERS...

DEBUTS/RETURNS

NEW SERIES

This weekend marks the start of Rob Patrick’s 19th season at the University of Tennessee.

Tennessee’s roster has 17 players this season, 10 returners and seven newcomers.

Tennessee is 14-4 in season openers in the Patrick era and have won the last two.

Five starters are back: Kendra Turner, Kanisha Jimenez, Raina Hembry, Lexi Dempsey and Kelsey Bawcombe. Bridgette Villano and Megan Hatcher split time at libero/DS.

This weekend marks the first time in program history that Tennessee will play any of its first four opponents.

UT recorded a 3-0 win against Tennessee Tech in last year’s opener at the Appalachian Invitational. The Vols will meet TTU again next week in the home opener (Sept. 3, 7 p.m.). This is opening weekend for NCAA Division I volleyball.

Of the seven newcomers, four are freshmen who could see their first action in Orange and White: Brooke Schumacher, Erica Treiber, Breana Jeter and Courtney Mueller.

The matches kick off the non-conference slate for Tennessee. The Vols play 15 non-conference matches at four tournaments, plus an additional home nonconference match against Evansville. Tennessee went 7-7 in non-conference play last year.
