In the second game of the 2011-12 season for each team, it was (then) No. 3 Tennessee staving off a determined No. 7 Miami squad to claim a 92-76 victory in Knoxville on Nov. 15, 2011. The teams were knotted up at 42 at the half, but UT outscored Miami, 50-34, in the second 20 minutes to win the first-ever meeting between the programs. Taber Spani, who hit a game-high four three-pointers against the Hurricanes last season, drained a huge trey with the shot clock winding down with 6:36 remaining to ignite an 11-0 run for the Big Orange. She finished with 20 points. Returnees Meighan Simmons (18) and Ariel Massengale (11) hit for double figures for UT, as did departed seniors Glory Johnson (16) and Shekinna Stricklen (15).
