GAME 13 SET-UP #8/9 Tennessee (10-2) opens Southeastern Conference play at home on Friday at 9 p.m. ET, as the Missouri Tigers (10-3) come to Thompson-Boling Arena. For the fourth game in a row, the Lady Vols will appear on the SEC Network, with Paul Sunderland and Carolyn Peck in Knoxville to call the action. The contest also can be seen online via WatchESPN. A “Watch Live” link can be found on the Lady Vol Hoops Central page on UTSports.com. Mickey Dearstone’s Lady Vol Network call can be heard on the radio on network stations statewide in Tennessee and via audio stream worldwide on UTSports.com. The Lady Vols enter on the heels of backto-back wins over #7/7 Stanford (59-40) on Dec. 20 and #10/12 Oregon State (74-63) on Dec. 28, marking UT’s first consecutive wins over top-10 opponents since toppling #6/5 LSU and #4/4 Stanford at the 2008 NCAA Final Four in Tampa. This will mark the end of a four-game home stand for Tennessee, with the Lady Vols putting a six-game winning streak on the line against Mizzou. UT also enters with a 12-game home court win streak, which began against Auburn on Feb. 20, 2014, and includes a 4-0 stretch last season and an 8-0 mark at T-BA in 2014-15. Mizzou comes to town after having its five-game winning streak halted Tuesday night in Kansas City, as former Lady Vol Kellie Jolly Harper’s Missouri State Bears upended the Tigers, 57-52, at the Sprint Center. While Tennessee is 8-0 at home this season, Missouri has a 1-1 mark in true road games, winning at Wake Forest (79-64) on Dec. 20 and falling at Bradley (76-64) on Dec. 6. The Tigers are 1-2 at neutral sites. This will mark the seventh overall meeting between these programs, with Tennessee holding a 5-1 advantage, including a 2-1 mark since the Tigers joined the SEC in 2012-13.
OPENING ACT Tennessee is 26-6 all-time in Southeastern Conference openers since league standings were begun in 1982-83. The Lady Vols are 13-3 all-time in SEC openers played at home and 13-3 in league lid-lifters played on the road. UT is 29-3 in the initial SEC home games of each season. A year ago, (then) #5/5 UT saw a 16game SEC opening game victory streak come to an end at the hands of #16/16 LSU on Jan. 2, 80-77, on the day Candace Parker’s banner of honor was lifted to the rafters. The Lady Vols had won nine SEC home openers in a row until last season’s setback.
