GAME ONE SET-UP  #4/4 Tennessee opens the 2013-14 season on the road on Friday night, taking on Middle Tennessee in Murfreesboro at 7:05 p.m. Central time (8:05 ET).  The game is nearing a sellout at MT’s 11,520-seat Murphy Center and is being advertised as a “Blue Out” for fans.  The contest will be televised in the midstate by MyTV 30 and live streamed for a fee on GoBlueRaiders.com.  This marks the 21st meeting between the Lady Volunteers and the Blue Raiders, with Tennessee holding a 20-0 advantage in the all-time series that dates back to 1971.  The Lady Vols are ranked the highest they’ve been for a matchup with Middle Tennessee since winning, 84-61, as the No. 1-ranked team on Dec. 13, 2007.  After not playing MT for 22 years, Tennessee is meeting the Blue Raiders for the seventh time in the last eight seasons.  Tennessee is 100-28 all-time vs. teams from the Conference USA.  UT has amassed a 216-43-1 overall record against schools from the Volunteer State.

UT COMING OFF EXHIBITION ROMP  Tennessee played its lone exhibition game on Nov. 4, bursting out to a 51-17 halftime lead en route to a 115-31 victory over Carson-Newman.  The home team was better on both ends of the floor in the second half, winning that 20 minutes, 64-14.  Bashaara Graves posted a double-double to lead six Lady Vols in double figures with 21 points and 11 rebounds vs. the Lady Eagles.  Nicknamed “Beast” last season, Graves hit six-of-eight shots from the field and dropped in nine-of-10 free throw tries in 28 minutes.  Graves added a game-high five steals and had two assists, a block and one turnover.  Freshmen Jordan Reynolds and Mercedes Russell introduced themselves to Big Orange Country with 17 and 16 points, respectively.  Meighan Simmons was good for 14 points, while Isabelle Harrison and Cierra Burdick chipped in 12 each.  Tennessee used 22 steals to create 33 C-N miscues, resulting in a 49-0 points-offturnovers barrage.  Tennessee shot .519 percent from the field (40-77) and limited C-N to .158 percent (9-57) shooting.  The Lady Vols had a 58-32 rebound advantage and outscored Carson-Newman, 60-8 in the paint.
