GAME 30 SET-UP #9/9 Tennessee (23-6/14-2 SEC) enters the 2013 SEC Tournament as the top seed by virtue of winning the regular season championship for the 17th time in school history. The Lady Volunteers will open tourney play at noon on Friday, as they face the winner of Thursday’s noon contest between eighth-seeded Arkansas (18-11/6-10 SEC) and No. 9-seed Florida (17-13/6-10 SEC) at The Arena at Gwinnett Center (10,309) in Duluth, Ga. SportSouth will televise the contest, with Dave Neal and Nell Fortner calling the action. ESPN3 will stream live, with access restricted within the SEC footprint. Tennessee played Arkansas and Florida on the road this season, defeating the Razorbacks, 60-54, on Feb. 24 and overcoming Florida in overtime, 7875, on Jan. 13. The winner of Friday’s game will advance to a 4 p.m. semifinal match-up on Saturday, with ESPNU televising the action. The opponent would be #4 Texas A&M, #5 South Carolina or #13 Alabama. Tennessee had won six in a row before ending the regular season with a loss at Kentucky on Sunday, 78-65. Arkansas is coming off a 93-52 home win over Ole Miss on Sunday, but the Razorbacks closed the regular season by losing three of their last four games. Florida enters on the heels of a 67-56 loss at South Carolina on Sunday, and the Gators have dropped four of their last six games. The Big Orange women have triumphed in 18 of their last 20 games vs. SEC foes, dating back to last season, including nine in a row at home and eight of the last 10 on the road. Tennessee was the SEC runner-up a year ago (27-9/12-4 SEC) and postseason tournament champion. The Lady Vols were picked to finish fourth this season by the media and fifth by the coaches. Tennessee is 480-72 (.870) all-time vs. schools who are current members of the SEC, including 331-46 (.878) in the regular season.
UT’S SEC TOURNEY HISTORY Tennessee enters the 2013 tournament with a 69-17 (.802) all-time record and 16 championships in the previous 33 years of the event. UT has finished second on five other occasions. The Big Orange women are 14-1 in SEC Tournament play since 2007-08, winning the past three trophies and four of the past five. The Lady Vols’ last loss in tourney play was a 78-58 decision by Auburn in the 2009 semifinals, meaning they’ve won nine straight games at the SEC Tournament. The Lady Vols have won 16 SEC Tournament
