GAME 11 SET-UP #11/12 Tennessee (8-2) faces its third ranked opponent of the season but first in Knoxville, when #7/7 Stanford (6-3) comes calling at Thompson-Boling Arena on Dec. 20 at 1 p.m. ET. For the second game in a row, the Lady Vols will appear on the SEC Network, with Paul Sunderland and Nell Fortner back in Knoxville to call the action. The contest also can be seen online via WatchESPN. A “Watch Live” link can be found on the Lady Vol Hoops Central page on UTSports.com. Mickey Dearstone’s Lady Vol Network call can be heard on the radio on network stations statewide in Tennessee and via audio stream worldwide on UTSports.com. The Lady Vols are 1-1 vs. ranked foes thus far, beating #17/19 Rutgers on the road (5545) on Dec. 14 and dropping a 72-59 decision at #6/9 Texas on Nov. 30. Tennessee survived a stiff challenge Tuesday night in Knoxville from upset-minded Wichita State, prevailing 54-51 in a game that went down to the wire. The contest pitted a pair of former Lady Vol point guards in Tennessee’s Holly Warlick (1976-80) and Wichita State’s Jody Adams (1989-93), with another UT great, Bridgette Gordon serving as an assistant to Adams. The triumph over the Shockers was UT's fourth straight victory since a two-game losing skid at Chattanooga and #6/9 Texas on Nov. 26 and 30. The victory also improved the Lady Vols to 6-0 in Knoxville this season and extended UT’s home winning streak to 10 games. Stanford suffered the same fate that befell Tennessee in its trip to Chattanooga earlier this season, as the Cardinal suffered an upset loss Wednesday night to the Lady Mocs, 54-46, at The McKenzie Arena. That setback ended a three-game Stanford winning streak and dropped the Cardinal to 2-1 on the road in 2014-15 following wins at New Mexico (W, 70-65) and Hawaii (86-73).
A WIN WOULD... Lift the UT program’s all-time record to 1,256-281 in its 70th season. Improve Holly Warlick’s record as head coach to 65-16 overall and 38-5 in Knoxville She is 27-11 on the road. Raise the Tennessee seniors’ career record to 92-25. Improve UT to 23-9 vs. Stanford and halt a three-game losing streak to the Cardinal. Boost the Lady Vols’ record to 63-18 vs. the Pac-10. Extend the Big Orange’s current win streak to five games and UT’s victory string at home to 11.
