GAME 31 SET-UP No. #6/6 Tennessee (25-5), seeded second, will meet the No. 3 seed, #15/14 Texas A&M (24-7), at 2:30 p.m. ET on Saturday in the second semifinal game at the 2014 SEC Women’s Basketball Tournament at The Arena at Gwinnett Center in Duluth, Ga. This year’s other semifinal game will feature No. 1 seed South Carolina (27-3) facing off against No. 4 seed Kentucky (23-7) at noon. The games will be televised on ESPNU, with Cara Capuano and Carolyn Peck calling the action, and they also will be available via WatchESPN. The winners of Saturday’s semifinal contests advance to the SEC championship game on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPN. Tennessee is playing its best basketball of the season, having won five straight and 11 of its last 12. The Lady Vols advanced to the SEC semifinal round by coming from 15 down to defeat No. 10 seed LSU, 77-65. That victory gave the Lady Vols their fifth straight and 34th overall 25-win season. It marks the second in a row by head coach Holly Warlick. Texas A&M moved out of the quarterfinal round by taking care of No. 6 seed Auburn, 70-54. Tennessee defeated Texas A&M earlier this season in College Station, departing with a 76-55 decision at Reed Arena on Jan. 26. That game, the first in which Andraya Carter started at point guard, seemed to be the crucial victory Tennessee needed to generate confidence and momentum heading down the stretch. The Aggies come into Saturday’s contest on a three-game winning streak and have been victorious in seven of their last eight games. The Lady Vols ascended from #10/9 to #6/6 in the rankings this week after closing out the regular season at home with a 73-61 victory over SEC champion and (then) #4/4 South Carolina.
UT’S SEC TOURNEY HISTORY With the win, Tennessee improved its alltime tournament record to 71-18 (.798). The Lady Vols own 16 titles in the previous 34 years of the event. UT has finished second five other times. UT now is 31-4 in the Lady Vols’ first game of SEC Tournaments (UT last lost a tourneyopening game in 1993). The Big Orange women are 16-2 in SEC Tournament play since 2007-08, winning three of the past four trophies and four of the past six. Tennessee has finished second in the SEC regular-season race eight times and on all
