GAME THREE SET-UP #4/5 Tennessee (2-0) plays its third of four straight home games to open the 201415 campaign, welcoming Winthrop (1-1) to Thompson-Boling Arena for a 7 p.m. ET contest on Friday. The game will not be televised, but the SEC Network+ broadcast will be streamed live with Bob Kesling and former Lady Vol standout Brittany Jackson calling the action and Whitney Haworth reporting from the sideline. Winthrop is a member of the Big South Conference and hails from Rock Hill, S.C., hometown of UT senior quarterback Justin Worley as well as VFL and current Minnesota Vikings standout Cordarrelle Patterson. These teams will be meeting for the first time since March 9, 1974, when Winthrop ended UT’s season, 55-53, in the semifinal round of the AIAW Region II Championship in Harrisonburg, Va. That loss was the final of Tennessee coach Margaret Hutson’s successful four-year run as skipper. She finished 25-2 that season and 60-18 during her tenure before opting to take a sabbatical and open the door for Pat Summitt to be hired prior to the next season. The rest, as they say, is history. The Lady Vols are 2-1 in the all-time series with the Eagles. The Big Orange will attempt to open a season with three consecutive wins for the second straight time in Holly Warlick’s threeyear stint as head coach. The Lady Volunteers have put together dominating performances in their first two games, pummeling Penn, 97-52, on Nov. 14 and racing by Oral Roberts, 91-39, on Nov. 17. It marked the first time since the 2001-02 season that Tennessee has scored 90+ points in its opening two regular season games. Winthrop enters Friday’s tilt with a 1-1 record on the heels of a 73-55 home loss to Furman on Monday night. The Eagles opened the season, however, with a 117-43 home triumph over Gallaudet on Saturday.
