Linda King Newell writes about the history of Piute County, Utah in the Utah Centennial County History Series.
"Small in area and population, but rich in history, Piute County is located in central.
Utah. It is a land of high mountains and mountain valleys. Human occupation of the area began at least 10,000 years ago and has continued to the present day. The county was named after an early spelling of the Paiute Indians, who, along with bands of Utes and other Native Americans, occupied the region at the time of the beginning of white settlement."
