“Instead of just sitting in a classroom hearing about how or why things work, I’ve been able to see firsthand and apply concepts I’m learning. Creating content for clients, publishing stories in a real magazine, and being part of an entirely student-run news source have been valuable hands-on experiences for me. DSU has given me so much insight into my field of work and I feel more confident and better prepared for a career when I graduate.”

INNOVATION

INNOVATION RUNS THROUGH OUR VEINS.

We are leaders, not followers. We challenge the status quo. We are pioneers on the cutting-edge of business, health science, technology, and more.

INNOVATION

“DSU has made me want to further my education as much as possible so that I can help my community to the best of my ability. When I started, I only wanted to be a paramedic, but at DSU I learned that I could become both a physician assistant and a paramedic. I plan to work in both fields at the same time, helping my community while also pursuing my dreams of working in the medical field.”

TYLER CHRISTIAN - Hurricane, UT Biology Major

The Technology, Innovation & Entrepreneurship Center connects students with mentors and investors who provide support in patenting, manufacturing, and marketing products and businesses.

DSU’s Computer Crime Institute trains law enforcement around the globe to solve crimes through cell phone data extraction using state-of-the-art techniques and technology.

Dixie’s technology talent pipeline prepares students to meet the significant demand for quality programmers, designers and developers in the technology marketplace.

Medical Laboratory Science students analyze actual patient samples using the latest technologies used in contemporary medical labs. In learning phlebotomy, students use simulator arms before proceeding with live blood draws on volunteers.

Art classes in ceramics allow students to use a new wood-fired train kiln — one of only 17 in the United States.

Students package 100,000 meals for the hungry and homeless of Washington County in the Campus to Community service event.

American Sign Language students interpret for community events and Spanish students interpret for physical therapy sessions and dental appointments.

Last year alone, accounting students and faculty helped prepare 1,456 free income tax returns, facilitating more than $2.4 million in returns for community members as part of the IRS’ Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program.

Nutrition students cook meals for the hungry and homeless at the Switchpoint Resource Center.

COMMUNITY

“I really appreciated DSU’s small class sizes, which allowed me to engage with my peers and build lifelong relationships. The classes also gave me an opportunity to know my professors on an individual level, and I wasn’t just a number. One of my instructors in the Criminal Justice program was also the chief of the Santa Clara-Ivins Police Department. I later interned in his department, which propelled me into my career, working as one of two female officers there.”

JESSICA RUSSELL - Oak Hills, CA 2018 Criminal Justice Graduate
