Areas of Expertise in Finance McCombs offers six primary areas of study in finance. Combining your strong core curriculum skills with a range of elective opportunities, you’ll be well-prepared to succeed in finance—whether on Wall Street or beyond. GENERAL Finance Generalizing your studies in finance allows you the freedom to explore any area(s) that appeal to you and helps you round out your in-depth financial knowledge. Corporate Finance Use the coursework in this concentration to find out more about opportunities in corporate finance. Experiential Finance Projects and Opportunities MBA Investment Fund The MBA Investment Fund, L.L.C. is the first legally constituted, private investment company to be managed by students. The Fund has approximately $16 million in assets and is managed entirely by up to 20 selected MBA students. The students gain professional experience analyzing securities, managing portfolios, running a business and presenting results to outside advisors. REIT FUND The McCombs Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) Fund presents selected students with a learning opportunity designed to integrate their McCombs education with the “real world” experience of managing a portfolio of publicly traded REITs. Venture Fellows The prestigious Venture Fellows program offers select MBA students the opportunity to gain experience through an internship program with local venture capital firms, along with a unique venture capital-focused curriculum. Through a rigorous recruitment process, 15 to 20 students are selected to participate in the year-long program, which teaches them how to identify and quantify investment opportunities, perform due diligence and assist in the financial analysis for new ventures. EDS Trading and TECHNOLOGY Center This state-of-the-art trading and research facility, integrated with state-of-the-art audio/visual systems and real-time data feeds from Bloomberg, Bridge and Reuters, develops your understanding of the flow and management of financial data. It also houses the trading room in which the student managers of the MBA Investment Fund trade.
