PREFACE Dear student, This practical guide about Accommodation at the UT will help you find your way among the different types of furnished accommodation for which International Office mediates. International Office assists international guest in finding furnished accommodation. We coordinate supply and demand between international students/employees and local housing providers offering both on- and off-campus accommodation. There are three different housing providers: De Veste, Stadsweide accommodation, and the ITC International Hotel. Each of these housing providers offer several types of accommodation. In this handbook you will find information about topics such as the different housing providers, the types of accommodation, photo-impressions of the accommodation, and inventory lists. 1. HOUSING PROVIDERS International Office mediates for furnished accommodation. All the accommodation offered is private, i.e. you have your own room which you do not have to share with a roommate. The kitchen and bathroom facilities, however, are often shared with other tenants. Tenants are responsible for cleaning their own room, in addition to the fact that all tenants have a joint responsibility to clean the common areas. Within the accommodation that International Office mediates for, a distinction has to be made between the different housing providers: De Veste (on-campus), Stadsweide Apartments (city centre), and the ITC International Hotel (city centre).
DE VESTE De Veste is the on-campus housing provider, offering approximately 300 rooms on the UT campus. All UT campus rooms are private, while bathroom and kitchen facilities are often shared with other students. All rooms contain a bed (including mattress, sheets, duvet, duvet cover, pillow, and pillow case), closet, desk, desk light, desk chair, and waste basket. The kitchen is fully equipped, including utensils, plates, cookware, and a fridge. Additionally, there is a common laundry area in each building.
STADSWEIDE APARTMENTS The renovated and modern Stadsweide Apartments are located in the bustling city centre of Enschede - about 20 minutes by bike or public transport from the UT campus. The shops, market, post-office, and railway station are within walking distance. The unique Stadsweide apartments feature fully-furnished, spacious apartments with private bedrooms and a private or shared kitchen, bathroom and balcony. The apartments include many extras such as a television, safe, fan, and private refrigerator. Bed linen and kitchen utensils are not included.
ITC INTERNATIONAL HOTEL The modern ITC International Hotel is located in the vibrant city centre of Enschede, approximately 20 minutes by bike or public transport from the UT campus. The shops, market, post-office, and railway station are within walking distance. The fully-furnished rooms with balcony have private bathroom facilities and shared kitchen facilities. These comfortable living spaces include many extras such as a television, telephone for internal calls, safe, fan, toiletries upon arrival (e.g. shower gel, shampoo), private refrigerator as well as a wired internet connection (a network cable is available in exchange for a € 5 deposit). Renting a room in the ITC International Hotel includes exclusive access to all available hotel facilities, such as 24/7 reception service, weekly linen changes, weekly room cleaning service, and laundry self service. The following chapters will give a more detailed description of the types of accommodation offered by these three housing providers. On the next page, you will find a matrix that provides an overview of the different types of accommodation offered, as well as the corresponding number of fellow tenants and the specific rent.

2. DE VESTE De Veste is the on-campus housing provider and offers furnished as well as unfurnished rooms. International Office, however, only mediates for the furnished rooms offered. For the exact location of the accommodation offered by de Veste, please see the campus map below. De Veste offers a variety of rooms in an accommodation group (either with or without private bathroom facilities) as well as apartments and studio flats with private kitchen and bathroom facilities (for couples only). All accommodation includes a personal fridge and electricity, water, gas as well as the wired internet connection are included in the rent prices. The rent prices depend on the type of accommodation. CALSLAAN 1/CALSLAAN OUD The Calslaan 1/Calslaan oud complex consists of four-storey buildings, with groups of twelve tenants living on each floor. Flat Calslaan 1 has 36 rooms, of which approximately 24 are fully furnished. All rooms are fully decorated and furnished, including bed linen and kitchen equipment. Guests only have to bring their personal belongings and some towels. Monthly basic cleaning of the kitchen and bathroom facilities is done by de Veste. However, tenants are expected to keep their room and the communal areas clean as well. Bathroom and kitchen facilities are shared with 11 other tenants. Each group has a large balcony, two showers, two sinks, and two toilets. Additionally, there is a common living room where the tenants may relax or have dinner. As stated, however, International Office only mediates for the furnished rooms. The groups range in size from four to ten tenants. There is a common room where the tenants may relax or have dinner, while bathroom and kitchen facilities are shared with the other tenants. Each group has two or three showers and toilets. In addition to the rooms offered, the complex also has several furnished apartments with private kitchen and bathroom facilities. All rooms and apartments are fully decorated and furnished, including bed linen and kitchen equipment. Guests only have to bring their personal belongings and some towels. TORENFLAT/CAMPUSLAAN This eight floor high building is located next to the tennis court on campus. It has 14 fully furnished apartments with private kitchen and bathroom facilities. Each apartment has its own balcony. All rooms are fully decorated and furnished, including bed linen and kitchen equipment. Guests only have to bring their personal belongings and some towels. On the ground floor you will find a washing machine and tumble drier for communal use (free of charge). There is also an elevator in the building. MONDRIAAN (CALSLAAN 45 - 55) The Mondriaan complex is situated near the de Veste office and can be recognised by its particular shape and the colours of the balconies (blue, yellow and red). It has 77 apartments, divided over four different types of accommodation – offering a variety of rental options. All rooms are fully decorated and furnished, including bed linen and kitchen equipment. Guests only have to bring their personal belongings and some towels. There is also a laundry room with washing machines and tumble drier. MATENWEG PATIO The Matenweg patio rooms are built around a small square and most of them are one-storey buildings. In total there are 13 rooms and 5 studio apartments. All rooms are fully decorated and furnished, including bed linen and kitchen equipment. Guests only have to bring their personal belongings and some towels. All studios have their own private kitchen and bathroom facilities. Depending on the building, 6 or 7 tenants live together. Bathroom and kitchen are shared with the other tenants. Every room has its own washbasin, and some have their own bathroom facilities. There is also a common room where the tenants can relax of have dinner. WITBREUKSWEG The Witbreuksweg accommodation consists of pyramid-shaped four-storey buildings. All rooms are fully decorated and furnished, including bed linen and kitchen equipment. Guests only have to bring their personal belongings and some towels. All accommodation on the first and second floor of the Witbreuksweg has a private bathroom and shared kitchen facilities. Additionally, there is a common living room where the tenants can relax or have dinner. On the third floor there are solitary rooms with private bathroom and kitchen facilities. 3. STADSWEIDE APARTMENTS As described earlier, the renovated and modern Stadsweide Apartments are located in the bustling city centre of Enschede - about 20 minutes by bike or public transport from the UT campus. The shops, market, post-office, and railway station are within walking distance. The unique Stadsweide apartments feature fully-furnished, spacious apartments with private bedrooms and a private or shared kitchen, bathroom and balcony. The apartments include many extras such as a television, safe, fan, and private refrigerator. Bed linen and kitchen utensils are not included. Additionally, the complex offers a secured parking-lot for its tenants. Please see the map below for the exact location of the accommodation in the city centre. The Stadsweide building contains 55 apartments, which can accommodate up to 90 guests. The apartments are shared with other tenants, depending on the number of bedrooms available in each apartment (i.e. when an apartment has two bedrooms, the living room as well as the kitchen and bathroom facilities are shared between two tenants). The Stadsweide apartments meet the Dutch standards and contain large living rooms and living/kitchen areas - varying between 18 up to 42 m2. Due to the different types of accommodation, the rent prices for the Stadsweide apartments vary between € 275 and € 412 per month for rooms with shared facilities and € 766 for fully private apartments (private living room as well as private kitchen and bathroom facilities). Electricity, water, gas, and a wired internet connection are included in the rent prices. There are five different types of apartments in the Stadsweide building. Each of these apartments contain one, two, or sometimes three bedrooms. 4. ITC INTERNATIONAL HOTEL As described earlier, the modern ITC International Hotel is located in the vibrant city centre of Enschede, approximately 20 minutes by bike or public transport from the UT campus. The shops, market, post-office, and railway station are within walking distance. The fully-furnished rooms with balcony have private bathroom facilities and shared kitchen facilities. These comfortable living spaces include many extras such as a television, telephone for internal calls, safe, fan, toiletries upon arrival (e.g. shower gel, shampoo), private refrigerator as well as a wired internet connection (a network cable is available in exchange for a € 5 deposit). Renting a room in the ITC International Hotel includes exclusive access to all available hotel facilities, such as 24/7 reception service, weekly linen changes, weekly room cleaning service, and laundry self service. Please see the map below for the exact location of the accommodation in the city centre. In addition to UT students, employees can also book a room in the ITC International Hotel. Whereas students can only rent the accommodation for long stay, employees have the opportunity to book the accommodation for short stay as well (see the rates below). Hotel rules are applicable for all guests, including students and employees.
