WELCOME TO THE 21ST EDITION OF THE HOKA UTMB MONT-BLANC!
We are delighted to welcome you!
We’d like to extend our warmest thanks to all the volunteers, partners, service providers, local authorities, tourism and mountain professionals, refuges and alpinists who make this event possible. And, of course, we’d like to thank you, the runners, supporters and spectators, for joining us this year to make the event such an incredible adventure. Your passion and commitment are the driving force behind this great human endeavor.
EXPERIENCING EMOTIONS TOGETHER
Since 2003 the HOKA UTMB Mont-Blanc has brought together thousands of trail and mountain enthusiasts. This year, we come together for the 21st time to celebrate this extraordinary sport that is founded on the values of surpassing one’s limits, solidarity and respect. The HOKA UTMB Mont-Blanc is a festival for all ages, amateurs and professionals — everyone can enjoy the experience together. To make the event even more sociable and friendly this year we have redesigned the Ultra-Trail Village and created a Fan Experience. And to ensure that this festival remains a celebration for all, we invite you to respect our magnificent region and its inhabitants.
TOGETHER WE CAN REDUCE OUR CARBON FOOTPRINT
Reducing our carbon footprint is a major commitment shared by all our employees throughout the year, but during the event we need your help to make a difference. Once again, we are doing everything in our power to ensure that you don’t need a car to get to and from the event or while you are here, including investing half a million euros in a UTMB Mobility transport plan.
In 2023 we transported over 13,000 people by UTMB Bus to reduce road congestion and protect the tranquility of natural sites. How many more of you will join us in 2024? We’re counting on you to take up the challenge! Regional and sustainable refreshments, 0 plastic bottles, biowaste recovery, and much more: find out all about our environmental commitments on our website.
In addition to addressing visible aspects of mobility, the HOKA UTMB Mont-Blanc takes complete responsibility for the mobility of organisation members, including service providers and volunteers, with the launch of the DACIA Car Sharing project. This innovative programme, in partnership with DACIA, encourages employees, service providers and volunteers to attend the event using collective transport, while ensuring they have appropriate solutions for necessary travel during the event.
PRESERVING OUR NATURAL ENVIRONMENT
Protecting our natural environment is a priority. Throughout the year our organization is actively involved in environmental conservation actions. We work to rehabilitate and maintain trails in partnership with local associations, ensuring their longevity and beauty for future generations.
During the event our Environmental Ambassadors, trained by ASTERS (nature conservationists and managers of the Haute-Savoie nature reserves), will cover more than 800kms of trails to help participants respect and protect nature, and to collect any garbage found along the way. We invite you, as participants and visitors, to fully embrace the spirit of ‘Leave No Trace’. Please respect our flora and fauna, but also all the private property and farmland that you cross. Please manage your garbage and leave nature as you found it, for all to enjoy.

OUR THANKS TO ALL THE PEOPLE
The Mont-Blanc valley residents, whom the organization calls the Friends of the UTMB Mont-Blanc, contribute to the smooth running of the event through their welcome and efficiency. Thanks to these men and women, we can welcome the entire outdoor and trail running community to the region.
We have forged strong ties with these local residents, based on simple, authentic moments such as the energy at the start, the friendliness at a refreshment point, the beauty of the race experienced at night, the adventures post-race...
The event is an opportunity to gather all these good vibes around a common adventure.

SUSTAINABLE HEAD & NECKWEAR DESIGNED FOR ANY FORECAST
ECO-RESPONSIBILITY
With the event based around the Mont-Blanc, a region that is unique in the world, it is vital that we remain committed to our values and develop all the necessary measures to conserve this extraordinary natural environment.
G.E.S.I.
The HOKA UTMB Mont-Blanc is one of the first signatories of the Charte Éco Responsable des Grands Evénements Sportifs Internationaux (GESI). Through this charter the organization reaffirms its commitment to sustainable development.
The charter is supported by the French Ministry of Sports, WWF ® France and 46 signatories (sports organizers and facilities managers).
RAISING AWARENESS
Out on the trails, you will meet our environmental ambassadors whose mission it is to help you to protect the environment. To help you to better understand the countryside that you are running through, we have designed specific signage.
Don’t hesitate to ask our ambassadors for more information!
«BRING YOUR OWN UTENSILS»
As part of the BYOU (Bring Your Own Utensils) scheme, there will be no disposable crockery or utensils at the refreshment points. So, if you would like to eat hot food, you will need to bring your own bowl and cutlery.
Why not adopt this best practice for when you go on your next picnic too?
CARRY YOUR OWN TRASH
Coureurs, supporters, ne laissez aucun déchet sur le Runners and support crews: do not leave a single item of garbage on the trail! Let’s all be eco-responsible and carry a garbage bag.
PROTECTED NATURAL AREAS
The HOKA UTMB Mont-Blanc races pass through conservation areas in France, Italy and Switzerland. Please follow the signs indicating the rules in force. In all cases, camping and campfires are prohibited, as is the use of drones. We ask you to please respect the rules of the nature reserves!
BIOWASTE
In Italy, Switzerland and France, runners will be asked to sort their biowaste into dedicated containers at each refreshment point. In France, an association from the valley which travels by bike, will come and collect all the biowaste from the refreshment points in Vallorcine, Argentières, Chamonix and Les Houches. This waste will then be sent to composters for natural fertilizer.
ECO-RESPONSIBLE REFRESHMENT POINTS
Since 2017 we’ve been striving to make our refreshments more environmentally responsible and break with tradition. We offer some vegetarian refreshments, cheeses and local dishes, giving preference to French, Italian or Swiss products with organic labels. For the 2024 edition of the UTMB Mont-Blanc, we are aiming to achieve 80% sustainable refreshments as per the GESI charter, a steady increase on the 40% achieved in 2017.

TRANSPORT
FEWER CARS, MORE ADVENTURES!
To encourage everyone involved in the HOKA UTMB MontBlanc to use public transport, the organization is setting up a dedicated transport service during the event to follow the races and travel around the valley. This transport network is aimed at runners, support crews and the public who wish to follow the racing.
A SPECIAL TRANSPORT SYSTEM FOR RUNNERS
This system will transport runners to the start of the 6 races in Italy and Switzerland. It operates throughout the valley, from Servoz to Vallorcine, stopping at all public transport stops to pick up runners and take them to the start of their race, thus drastically reducing the use of personal vehicles.
A SYSTEM TO RELIEVE CONGESTION IN THE TOWN CENTERS
All cars travelling to the UTMB start on Friday August 30 will be redirected to car parks where the Chamonix buses to the town center will be operating.
A SPECIAL TRANSPORT SYSTEM FOR SUPPORT CREWS AND THE PUBLIC
The HOKA UTMB Mont-Blanc organization has set up an exceptional race shuttle service in collaboration with three cross-border operators (Transdev, ATS, TMR) open to all race followers, enabling them to follow runners to various points along the route. The UTMB Buses are available for each race, enabling supporters to follow individual runners and to enjoy the race atmosphere at each of the key refreshment points along the routes with complete peace of mind. The organization is also working with the Communauté de communes de la vallée de Chamonix Mont-Blanc to promote the use of the pre-existing public transport network.
The HOKA UTMB Mont-Blanc is advertising reduced-price access to the network for anyone with a guest card.
A FEW FIGURES, EACH YEAR:
15 000 PEOPLE ARE TRANSPORTED
290 BUSES ARE DEPLOYED THROUGHOUT THE MONT-BLANC AREA
7 BUS LINES ARE DEPLOYED FOR THE EVENT
Our thanks to those partners that support our mobility plan: Dacia, ATMB, the Chamonix-Mont-Blanc community, Transdev and the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.
A PARTNERSHIP WITH THE COURMAYEUR SKI LIFTS
To encourage all supporters to use public transport, there will once again be a 20% discount on the Courmayeur Mont-Blanc Funivie lifts to all those registered for one of the HOKA UTMB Mont-Blanc races on presentation of an entry confirmation and for all holders of a UTMB Mobility transport ticket.

BASE CAMPS
In 2022 UTMB Mont-Blanc launched the BASE CAMP concept — areas accessible free of charge with the UTMB Mobility pass for support crew and supporters to wait in the warmth.
IN 2024, WE’RE CONTINUING TO SET UP THESE AREAS!
Located all along the UTMB, CCC and TDS routes, the BASE CAMPS are accessible day and night on presentation of your UTMB Mobility pass.
The Base Camps are located close to the refreshment points and are clearly signposted. Nearby you’ll find refreshment stands where you can eat something and drink a hot beverage.
Along the way, you’ll meet mobility ambassadors who can give you all the information you need!
We’d like to make a bet with you: you no longer need a car to follow the race.
Following the HOKA UTMB Mont-Blanc Finals by car is impossible: roads and parking lots are closed. For the other races we strongly advise against travelling by car as there will be long traffic jams, parking difficulties, and small winding roads...
If you have no other means of transport, please carpool.
BY BUS IT’S EASY, AND YOU CAN GO WHERE CARS CANNOT!

SUPPORT ZONE
We’ve come a long way since 2003! From a single race with 700 contenders, the event now brings together 10,000 runners and 8 individual races, each with its own identity. While the event has gained in reputation, its values remain the same: fair play, friendliness, and respect for people and this glorious natural environment. To ensure every participant in the HOKA UTMB Mont-Blanc has a memorable experience, a certain number of rules must be respected on the trail:
On entering, runners have agreed to respect the rules. Support crews must not jeopardize their runner’s commitment. Reminder: running alongside a participant outside the support zones near the refreshment points is strictly forbidden and exposes the runner to a 15-minute penalty. Be careful not to confuse the support zone (a few hundred meters before and after each refreshment point, and clearly signposted) and the assistance zone (the part of the refreshment point reserved for assistance). In other words, in the support zone you can be accompanied but not assisted!
ASSISTANCE ZONE
Personal assistance is tolerated at certain refreshment points, within the Assistance Zone specifically reserved for this purpose, and on presentation of the ‘Assistance’ ticket and at the discretion of the station manager. Assistance can only be provided by one person at a time, with no specific equipment other than a bag with a maximum volume of 30 liters. Assistance provided by a professional team, or any medical or paramedical professional — even if it’s a parent — is strictly forbidden.
1 TICKET per assistance zone
1 TICKET = 1 person*
Please note that some assistance zones may be outdoors, so equip yourself accordingly!
*Children under 14 can of course accompany their parent without an additional ticket.
YOU TOO!
A reminder of good practice to be applied in all communes that the HOKA UTMB Mont-Blanc passes through (although these rules should apply to everywhere you tread)! Set an example and make this festival of running even greater:
- I collect my garbage and use the garbage cans and sorting bins.
- I respect private properties and their surroundings.
- I use public transport and official parking lots (illegal parking is strictly forbidden in all communes).
- At night and early in the morning, I respect residents by keeping the noise I make to a minimum.
- At all times, I respect the instructions given by the organization’s representatives and the police.
