THE EXPERIENCE OF EACH PARTICIPANT AT THE HEART OF THE ORGANISATION

AN EVENT OPEN TO THE WORLD

In order for this adventure to last, the UTMB® Mont-Blanc has always taken the experience of each participant to heart, so that it is as authentic and complete as possible. The quality of the organisation, the involvement of the runners, the follow-up of the races, the vitality of the territory, the beauty of the routes... All these key points contrib ute to the quality of the experience for all. The UTMB® Mont-Blanc is certainly a story of men and women united around a common vision: that of diversity, sharing, excellence and passion.

The Mont-Blanc valleys are among the rare areas where there is still a strong bond between the people who live there, the environment, the fauna and the flora. It is this relationship with nature and the land that unites the inhabitants of the roof of Western Europe around a common project, that of sharing, across borders, with other enthusiasts, their know-how and their relationship with the mountains and their valleys.

The UTMB® Mont-Blanc is a story of men and women. A great adventure guided by values and a common vision, that of sharing and communion between peoples, the reflection of diversity.

The UTMB® Mont-Blanc is undeniably a large family composed of men and women, volunteers and service providers, partners and local authorities, tourism and mountain professionals, trek king enthusiasts and mountaineers... They all come together with a common goal: to transmit values and reveal a heritage of which they are proud, sharing them with runners from all over the world, men and women from five continents. During the last week of August, in the towns around Mont Blanc, American, Chinese, Japanese, Brazilian, Argentinean, Australian, Omani, Spanish and South African runners meet... It is an opportunity for runners and Friends of the UTMB® Mont-Blanc to meet and experience a great adventure together. The UTMB® Mont-Blanc is synonymous with sharing and communion between peoples.

COMMITTEE OF HONOUR

It is thanks to this excellence and knowledge of the region that the UTMB® Mont-Blanc is a logistics and event success, which allows 3 countries, 18 towns, 7 valleys and 800km of trails to be animated and known internationally over a week. In all the Mont Blanc valleys, it is also the welcome and efficiency of the women and men, whom the organisation calls the Friends of the UTMB® Mont-Blanc, that contribute to the smooth running of the event. With them, it is possible to welcome the entire outdoor and trail running community in optimal conditions. With them, strong bonds are created around simple and authentic moments: the energy of the start, the conviviality of a refreshment stop, the beauty of the race experienced at night, the post-race adventures... The event is an opportunity to gather all these positive energies around a common adventure.

BYOU COLLECT YOUR WASTE Runners, supporters, do not leave litter on the route! Everyone be responsible and always carry a waste bag with you.

AWARENESS On site, you will meet sustainability ambassadors whose mission is to help you protect the environment. To better understand the natural environment in which you find your self, we have designed specific signage. Do not hesitate to ask the ambassadors for information!

PROTECTED NATURAL AREAS

G.E.S.I.

The UTMB ® Mont-Blanc races cross protected natural areas in France, Italy and Switzerland. On the ground, please refer to the rules signs in force. In all cases, camping and bonfires are forbidden, as is the use of drones. Respect the rules of the nature reserves!

SUSTAINABILITY

The UTMB ® Mont-Blanc is one of the first signatories of the Eco-responsible Charter of Major International Sporting Events (GESI). The organisation thus reaffirms its commitment to sustainable development. The chart is supported by the Ministry of Sport, WWF ® France and 46 signatories (sports event organisers and equipment managers).

«BRING YOUR OWN UTENSILS» As part of the Bring Your Own Utensils (BYOU) programme, catering establishments no longer offer disposable crock ery. Everyone therefore has to bring their own utensils if they want to eat hot food. And why not do the same for your next picnic?

COMPOSTABLE WASTE A t 75% of the race’s refreshment stations, we will ask run ners to sort their organic waste into dedicated containers, both in Italy and in Switzerland and France. In France, a valley association, which travels by bicycle, will come to collect all organic waste from the refreshment stations in Vallorcine, Argentières, Chamonix, Les Houch es, Saint-Gervais and Les Contamines. This material will then be sent to various composters for the production of natu ral fertiliser.

The aim of this village is to promote the know-how and environmental achievements of the valley and to introduce you to some of the actors involved in maintaining biodiversity and protecting these areas. It is also about discovering new initiatives and taking advantage to exchange ideas, have fun and discover...

®UTMBMONT-BLANC 19

A sustainability exhibition will be held on the route, in Vallorcine. Saturday, 27 August 2022 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., near the refreshment stand. It will bring together associations and companies involved in sustainable Thedevelopment.associations

and companies are: - Protect Our Winter (POW), Le Centre de la Nature Montagnarde, Asters (Conservatoire d’Espaces Naturels de Haute-Savoie), Upcycling, la Recyclerie du Mont-Blanc, Ecotrivelo as well as local producers, conferences and musical entertainment, and so much more. A great opportunity to meet those who take care of our territories!

CAMPSIDER For 2022, we are proud to introduce Campsider, the first market dedicated to second-hand equipment for outdoor sports (winter sports, hiking, trail-running, climbing, mountaineering and mountain biking) and an official supporter of the UTMB Mont-Blanc.

Campsider is at the Ultra-Trail Village. Each trailer will have the opportunity to meet them and give them secondhand products or products that have lost their usefulness. Campsider will select, recycle and give a second life to products still in good condition by redirecting them to the Association des Trailers du Mont-Blanc. These products will be sent to Nepal to equip local professionals and Thisamateurs.partnership with Campsider aims at highlighting the circular economy and demonstrating that upcycling it is possible in the world of sport. This model should be an integral part of our new ways of consuming and playing sport!

SUSTAINAIBLE REFRESHMENTS

In 2019, a 100% eco-responsible catering system for TDS was tested at Les Contamines. Food from brands recommended by the GESI Charter and WWF, proximity products and no single-use packaging. The experiment was very satisfactory and has been repeated in 2021. For 2022, the idea is to extend sustainable refreshment areas of the UTMB® Mont-Blanc races to 60%. The final objective is that 100% of the refreshment points will be sustainable.

20

On the main race of the week, the UTMB® (171km 10 000m D+), French women are in the spotlight.

CCC® On the CCC® (101km 6100m D+), New-Zealand trailer RUTH CROFT (UTMB® Index 801) seems to be the main favorite, after her recent victory on the Western States 100 Miles Endurance Run. When she is on the startline, she usually aims at finishing first. The French trailer, BLANDINE L’HIRONDEL (UTMB® Index 810) can also fight for the victory after her recent success at the marathon-distance trail European Championships few weeks ago. The CCC® will be quite a challenge for her as she didn’t run a 100km race since 2016. The Canyons Endurance Run by UTMB® winner, JAZMINE LOWTHER (UTMB® Index 802) can also be part of the 2022 revelations with only 3 trail races but already quite an impressive record.

On the men side, the main favorite is the English runner JONATHAN ALBON (UTMB® Index 945) who jumped on the international trail running scene when he first won the OCC® in 2021 and showing his performances again few weeks ago by winning the 2022 Marathon du Mont-Blanc. Quite unknown right now, good to keep in mind that even if he is quite unknown worldwide right now, he is training with a the less-unfamous Kilian Jornet in Norway and ticking all the boxes to be noticeable while running from Courmayeur to Chamonix. The Americans DAVID SINCLAIR and HAYDEN HAWKS will come to represent their country with a great card to play for the most famous of the mustachioed runners (Hayden) who already won in 2017. The Spaniard ANDREU SIMON AYMERICH (UTMB® Index 901) who won in July on the 105km of Val d’Aran by UTMB® is one of the best runners in the world despite his diabetes and will have to be taken seriously for the final victory. Frenchman BAPTISTE CHASSAGNE (UTMB® Index 862) is one of the outsiders but could well play spoilsport. Very fit this season after his fourth place on the Lavaredo Ultra-Trail by UTMB® in a canonical time of 12h44, he is calmly preparing for the objective of his season.

UTMBELITE®

MANON BOHARD (UTMB® Index 764) will be one to watch after her victory on the TDS® last year. She knows how to manage long distances and seems very strong after her incredible victory on the X-Traversée of Trail Verbier-St-Bernard by UTMB®, where she ends up 4th in scratch. Hoka runner, AUDREY TANGUY (UTMB® Index 763), is also a serious contender as she will have the desire to well after giving up this same race in 2021. And she can do it, her victory on the TDS® in 2019 considered a proof, if necessary. The American KATIE SCHIDE (UTMB® index 783) is also part of the contenders, as she keeps progressing on the ultra-distance, after finishing 8th on the UTMB® in 2021 and 2nd on the CCC® in 2019, she just won the CDH 105km in Val d’Aran by UTMB®. The Swedish MIMMI KOTKA (UTMB® Index 753) has the strength to finish first this year, after her 3rd place last year and her recent victory on the Lavaredo Ultra Trail by UTMB®. Despite giving up several times on the UTMB®, she now has enough self-confidence on this specific distance to run for the win. Finally, Chinese contender XIANG FUZHAO (UTMB® Index 734), Hoka trailer as well, might be able to make the difference. She won the 1st edition of Thailand by UTMB® in 2021 and is getting better and better these past months on races over 100km. Among the men, the race will be just extraordinary. KILIAN JORNET (UTMB® index 943) getting back in the game, will be THE man to beat if he recovers well from the Hardrock 100. Next to him, many contenders will look for a victory on this 19th edition! The American, JIM WALMSLEY (UTMB® Index 938) is among the serious favorites with his exceptional speed. Staying in the Alps several weeks before the race, he put all his efforts to become the first American runner to win the UTMB®. Kilian and Jim will have to count on other contenders: German runner HANNES NAMBERGER (UTMB® Index 919), impressive this season as he broke a new record on the Lavaredo Ultra-Trail by UTMB®. His recent performances place him as the 3rd best trailer of the world in the 100M category. French runners will be there as well, with THIBAUT GARRIVIER (UTMB® Index 907), AURÉLIEN DUNNAND-PALLAZ (UTMB® Index 896), GERMAIN GRANGIER (885) and MATHIEU BLANCHARD (UTMB® Index 874). Athletes who have all impressive records and enough experience to be part of the game.

®UTMBMONT-BLANC 21

TDS® The TDS ® (145km 9100m D+) will see the Italian, AGNESE VALZ GEN (UTMB® Index 727), 7th in the CCC® 2021 take the start in the night from Monday to Tuesday and thus launch the hostilities of the week of the UTMB® Mont Blanc. The Spaniard CLAUDIA TREMPS (UTMB® Index 723) also has solid references, with a 9th place on the UTMB® in 2021. The Frenchwoman FIONA PORTE (UTMB® Index 722) will compete in her longest race at date. Italian MARTINA VALMASSOI and Austrian ESTER FELLHOFER complete the list of favorites. Among the men, the German JANOSCH KOWALCZYK who impressed during his victory at the Mozart 100 by UTMB® in less than 10 hours will come and test himself on the tougher format of the TDS®. He will be accompanied by the French, HUGO DECK (UTMB® Index 871), the Italian accustomed to long efforts, FRANCO COLLÉ (UTMB® Index 878), the Chinese MIN QI (UTMB® Index 882) rather comfortable on format rolling that is embarking on a hell of a challenge. Among the runners to watch, the French, MARTIN KERN who demonstrated all his qualities as a mountaineer on the 90km of the Mont-Blanc Marathon last year and the Spaniard CLEMENTE CRISTOFER MORA . Spectacle in perspective!

OCC On the OCC® (55km 3500m D+) the elite women’s field is ever more impressive in density every year. The Spaniards, lovers of these fast formats, arrive in force with a delegation of three runners with a UTMB® Index greater than 770, namely, MARTA MOLIST CODINA , SARA ALONSO and SHEILA AVILES. All three are capable of going for the win. The American, ALLIE MCLAUGHLIN (UTMB® Index 794) who comes from mountain running will be able to show her speed qualities on the Franco-Swiss slopes. All of them will have to rely on the French team Matryx, ANAIS SABRIÉ and team Hoka MATHILDE SAGNES, who are also very comfortable on this type of terrain. They will be accompanied on the starting line by ANNE-LISE ROUSSET, who is making her return to competition after setting the new GR20 women’s record. Just that!

What a start-list for the men! If he is well recovered from his injury, the Pole BART PRZEDWOKEWSKI (UTMB® Index 928) could be untouchable. The Spaniard, MANUEL MERILLAS, second of Zegama this year is a more than solid runner to win. The Briton ROBBIE SIMPSON, second last year, may come to seek victory in a race he now knows very well. The Eritrean PETRO MAMU, the Italian WILLIAM BOFFELLI and the two Frenchmen FRÉDÉRIC TRANCHAND and THOMAS CARDIN will also start with the desire to cross the finish line first. We are talking here about runners with a UTMB® Index greater than 910, so very heavy! There will also be a good number of outsiders like the Austrian, JAKOB HERRMANN , the climbing partner of a certain Kilian Jornet on the Pierra Menta, third overall this year. The Czech,JIŘÍ CIPA has already shown himself to be very solid in the past with a third place in the CCC® in 2019. If he has worked on his speed qualities, anything goes. The French will play at home with the presence of ARNAUD BONIN, ANTHONY FELBER and SIMON GOSSELIN , all very competitive. The French touch in short!

22 UTMB® RACE CATEGORY The UTMB® is an extraordinary and particularly demanding race around the Mont Blanc massif, crossing 3 countries and 18 towns. With passages at an altitude of over 2,500m, 171km to cover and 10,000m of D+, the UTMB® pushes everyone to go beyond their limits for a life-changing experience. 171KM 10 000M elevation Start in Chamonix 26thFriday,August at 6:00pm 2 300 RUNNERS MAX TIME ALLOWED : 46:30 FIRST FINISHER TIME : APPROX 20:45 RACES

TDS® Beautiful, technical, wild, demanding, there are so many adjectives to describe the TDS®. Acronym for «Sur les Traces des Ducs de Savoie» (the footprints of the Dukes of Savoie), the TDS® links the Aosta Valley to the Savoie, offering a voyage of discovery to the villages of the tour du MontBlanc and the mountains that surround them.

®UTMBMONT-BLANC 25 OCC On a shorter version, this race will be perfect for fans of medium distances (in the category Trail Ultra Medium (M) between 42km and 69km). Therefore, for the less «ultra» runners wishing to get into the event of the UTMB® MontBlanc will find a race suitable for them to start the adventure. 55KM 3 500m elevation Start in Orsières 25thThursday,August at 08:15 - 09:15 1 200 RUNNERS MAX TIME ALLOWED: 14:30 FIRST FINISHER TIME: APPROX 05:30

The runners will leave from Martigny-Combe (Switzerland) along an itinerary to finish in Chamonix. This race has the vocation of strengthening the teams. It is for this reason that the volunteers, as well as the inhabitants of the Espace MontBlanc, will have priority for this race. This race is the chance for a taster, over a more accessible distance, of the pleasure of participating in the World Summit of Trail-Running.

Each year the route is different to allow for the discovery of the richness and diversity of paths in France, Italy and Switzerland within the Mont-Blanc massif.

In 2022, the format changes its format with a trail running race taking place in Courmayeur on Tuesday and a new short and innovative race on Wednesday in Chamonix : YCC The Revenge. For this second run, participants shall start in reversed order of the times achieved in the previous day’s race, which means that the slowest runners will be given a head start with the fastest runners starting last. A SPECIAL SERVICE FOR SUPPORTERS & THE PUBLIC

A SPECIAL SERVICE FOR THE RUNNERS

All cars going to the start of the UTMB® on Friday, August 26, will be redirected to various park-and-ride lots (Plaine St Jean, Prarion) where a shuttle service will be set up to take them to the city center.

Every year, the UTMB® Mont-Blanc puts in place a shuttle service that provides a more sustainable solution for runners, crews and spectators. Everyone has an easy access to the existing public transports managed by the territory, and to the specific network developed by UTMB® for the event. This network allows all the runners to get to their start line and get back home using shuttles, and to the crews and the spectators to follow the race from the inside without taking care of their own car.

LESS CARS FOR MORE ADVENTURE!

on Friday morning TRANSPORTS

This transport service allows to bring the runners to the start of the 6 races in Italy and Switzerland. This system operates throughout the valley, from Servoz to Vallorcine and stops at all public stops to pick up runners and take them to the start of their race, thus drastically reducing the use of personal vehicles.

A SPECIAL SERVICE TO AVOID CONGESTION IN THE CITY CENTER

The UTMB® Mont-Blanc organization team, in collaboration with the three cross-border operators (Transdev, ATR, TMR), has set up an exceptional race follow-up service open to all supporters in order to get to the various points where the runners pass around Mont-Blanc. This transport product (UTMB®BUS) is offered according to each race and allows to arrive in time at the refreshment points in order to follow the runner or simply to enjoy the atmosphere of the race as the runners pass. The organization is also working with the Community of Municipalities of the Chamonix Mont-Blanc Valley to promote the use of the existing public transport network. The UTMB® Mont-Blanc communicates on the free access to the network for all the per sons having the guest card and renews this year the implementation of a special coupon transport valley of Chamonix for all the supporters. Courmayeur

BASE CAMP This year, there is no need to rely on a car for comfort. The UTMB® Mont-Blanc is creating dedicated areas for crews which are free of charge with the UTMB® Shuttle pass – this way your crew can wait while en joying a coffee or a good hot chocolate! We are launching our new BASE CAMP, and you will find 6 of them all along the UTMB® route, in Bourg Saint-Maurice, Courmayeur, La Fouly, Champex Lac, Trient and Vallorcine, accessible day and/or night, by showing your shuttle pass. A PARTNERSHIP WITH COURMAYEUR SKI LIFTS

OrUTMBMONTBLANC.COMduringtheeventattheinfo point and at the PC Transport (subject to availability). CHILDREN Given the possibility of waiting in the middle of the night and the possibility of difficult weather conditions, this system is not recommended for young children PETS Pets are not recommended on the organisation’s buses, each driver is free to refuse them access to the bus. BY CAR Following the races by car is strongly discouraged: heavy traffic jams, parking difficulties, small winding roads... If you can’t get around otherwise, carpooling is recommended.

PRICES, TIMETABLES AND TICKET SALES

Once again this year, in order to encourage all supporters to use public transport, a 20% reduction will be granted on the Courmayeur Mont-Blanc Funivie lifts for all those registered for one of the UTMB® Mont-Blanc races, on presentation of a confirmation of registration and for all holders of a UTMB® Bus transport ticket.

- In the evenings and early mornings, I respect the inhabitants by checking the noise I make. - I always respect the instructions given by the organisation and the police. Happy UTMB ® Mont-Blanc to all!

Between 2003 and today we have come a long way! From a single race in 2003 with 700 runners, the event now brings together 10,000 runners and 8 events, each with its own raison d’être. Although the event has gained notoriety, its values have not changed: fair play, respect for people and for this majestic nature, and conviviality. In order to guarantee an unforgettable experience for all those taking part in the UTMB ® Mont-Blanc, a certain number of rules must be respected on the route:

Please note that running alongside a participant outside the indicated support zones near the refreshment posts is strictly forbidden and exposes the runner to a penalty of 15 to 10 minutes. In practice, this penalty entails a downgrading in the ranking and for some runners may mean the risk of being over the maximum time limit. Be careful not to confuse the support zone (a few hundred metres before and after each refreshment station, marked by signs) with the assistance zone (the part of the refreshment station reserved for this purpose). In other words, in the support zone you can only be accompanied, not assisted!
