OUR COMMUNITY Community is the essence of UTM. Our campus is a place where debate is encouraged, and diversity is celebrated. Here are just a few of the students, staff, faculty, and student groups making an impact on campus.
Currently, I am a Research Assistant through the work-study program for Professor Elspeth Brown, assisting her in producing oral histories with a local activist. I was initially interested in this work after having been in one of her classes that focused on producing Queer Oral History in Peel. It was incredibly exciting because students were able to go out and help capture these invaluable histories. The advice I would give to a prospective UTM student is to make a conscious effort to stick around [campus], connect, and meet new people. — Tomasz, 4th-year Political Science and History student

I believe that a pedagogy of kindness is so important right now because we, of course, are living and working through rather traumatic times. The Experiential Education Unit (EEU) aims to enrich the undergraduate educational experience by promoting and nurturing unique opportunities and approaches to learning both in and outside of the classroom. Many academic units at UTM offer various types of for-credit experiential learning – or “learning by doing”, which may include academic internships, community engaged learning (including domestic and international opportunities), and project-based research. In the Research Opportunity Program (ROP), you will work one-on-one with the University’s leading faculty members on cutting-edge research projects while earning academic credit. The International Education Centre (IEC) is your first point of contact for assistance with immigration and the University Health Insurance Plan. HBA, Sociology, Class of 2017 Poet and public speaker Wali Shah has performed for such public figures as Barack Obama – and alongside artists like Selena Gomez and Kendrick Lamar. Now he’s working to make poetry more accessible to school children across North America and collaborating with renowned children’s author – and fellow University of Toronto alumnus – Eric Walters on a fictionalized account of his life. All before he turns 27.
“ The good thing about Mississauga and UTM, besides the diversity and the sense of community I had there, was that I felt like I was able to really lay my roots for the work that I was doing around poetry and philanthropy. Mississauga is full of opportunity; there’s less noise and more space, not as much going on, but just enough.”

BETHANY KREBS
4th-year Forensic Science student “Dusting for fingerprints” is a term we may know well from crime shows, but if Bethany Krebs has her way, forensic teams would instead be “sandblasting for fingerprints.” The fourth-year Forensic Science student at U of T Mississauga has conducted experiments showing abrasive blasting of a specialized powder over a surface is more effective at revealing fingerprints than the conventional dusting method. Completed for her Advanced Independent Project course, her study also found this innovative method to be more efficient and economical. Completing the study affirmed for Krebs what she enjoys most about forensics: the ability to apply scientific knowledge to help solve crimes.

BCom, Finance, Class of 2019 In the fall of 2019, Courtney Jones joined the incoming class of Harvard Law School. It is a challenge she feels ready to meet head-on, thanks in large part to the ongoing support she received from her tight-knit family, and community of friends and faculty at University of Toronto Mississauga. Jones pursued a major in economics and specialization in finance because it would add value to her as a lawyer later on and help her become an advocate for small businesses. “ As long as you’re willing to work for it and believe that you are capable of doing it, I think you can achieve anything you want.”

APPLYING TO UTM To apply to UTM, submit an application through the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre (OUAC) website: ouac.on.ca After applying, you will receive an email acknowledgment from the University. This email will include your next steps, instructions to review the status of your application, and a complete list of required documents you may need to complete your application. The application deadline is January 15, 2022.

The minimum requirements for admission consideration vary by program. You must present all the requirements, including prerequisite courses, to be considered. All of our programs have limited spaces, and the admission selection process is competitive. uoft.me/utmprograms

SUBMITTING DOCUMENTS After you have applied for admission, visit your Join U of T portal (join.utoronto.ca) regularly for up-to-date information about the documents required to complete your application.
How to Apply: If you are currently attending an Ontario high school day program (in Ontario or abroad), you will apply using OUAC's “101” application. Otherwise, you will apply using the “105” application. Both applications can be found at ouac.on.ca International students also have the option to apply directly to the University of Toronto if they do not wish to apply to any other post-secondary institution in Ontario. Admission Requirements for
ONTARIO HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
If you are a current full-time Ontario secondary school student, your school will provide you with a Personal Identification Number (PIN) to access the OUAC 101 online application. Your school will send your marks to OUAC, and OUAC will send them to us. You will initially select an intended area of study during the application process, but are not officially admitted to your formal programs of study (Specialists, Majors and Minors) until after the completion of first year. You may choose a different program or programs, providing you meet all prerequisites in your second year and beyond. All program areas require: • •
Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent with six Grade 12 U/M subjects or equivalent including English. See utm.utoronto.ca/future for details. Your admission average is calculated with English (ENG4U) plus your next best five Grade 12 U or M courses. The University of Toronto reserves the right to give preference to students whose marks are the result of a single attempt at each course.

The cost of a university education is a combination of tuition, incidental fees, and living expenses. Considering your financial options can help you prepare your budget before you set foot on campus. Student fees vary by program but generally include the following:
U of T provides you with two assurances regarding financial support; one based on need and the other based primarily on academic merit. The University’s policy on student financial support states that no student admitted to a program at the University of Toronto will be unable to enrol or complete the program because they do not have sufficient funds. This statement of principle means that U of T will supplement the funding provided by government sources for students who are Canadian citizens, permanent residents or protected persons.
• Domestic student tuition fees: $6,100 • International student tuition fees: $58,160 • $1,000 and up for books • $1,885 and up for incidental fees • $11,000 to $16,000 for residence and for meal plans • $644 and up for parking (optional) • $756 for the University Health Insurance Plan, required for international students (Above amounts are in Canadian dollars. The University of Toronto Scholars Program recognizes outstanding students with individual awards worth $7,500.
