Maria Ivana Oliva was born in Taranto - Italy; she began studying the guitar at a very young age, in 1992 she graduated with honors from the Conservatory "G. Paisiello "in Taranto. At the same time she graduated in Economics and Commerce with full marks from the University of Bari and obtained the II level Master in Leadership and

Management of Education at the University of Roma Tre.

In 1984 she specialized in the tablature of the Vihuela (Chordophone of 1500) with M° G. Balestra and subsequently, she continued to deepen the study of tablature with M° M. Lonardi. She also collaborated with the vocal and instrumental group "Musica Antiqua" for the recovery of the Italian popular repertoire of 500/600.

The continuous lessons with M° O. Ghiglia at the "Incontri Chitarristici" in Gargnano and the "Accademia Chigiana" in Siena, was very important in her training. She studied, also, with:M. Barrueco, A. Diaz, A. Ponce, J. Bream.

She performs both as a soloist and in various chamber ensembles, from duo (vl-ch, cl-ch) to trio (ch-vl-fl, ch-cl-fl) to various ensembles at various musical international associations. She recorded the CD “AA.VV” in trio with clarinet and flute.

She has an intense International concert activity, she played in Italy, Morocco,France, Greece, Spain, Germany, Denmark, Slovenia, Usa, etc.

She is invited to numerous international guitar festivals, both as a soloist and as a duo and as commissioner in the juries of prestigious international competitions.

She is the artist director of the "Città dello Jonio" International Guitar Festival and President of the "Guitar Artium" Association. She founded the "Andrés Segovia" orchestra made up of young musicians, for which she arranges and transcribes numerous pieces.

She writes and arranges for the SINFONICA Publishing.

She was teaching for important states association: she was Internship Supervisor at the "G. Paisiello” for the qualification of the competition classes of Musical Instrument and Musical Education and subsequently TUTOR for the Active Training Internship at the Conservatory" N. Piccinni ”in Bari.

She is currently a teacher of guitar in public school.
