The UTSA Art Gallery is pleased to host the 2014 Mid-America College Art Association Members Exhibition. The participating artists pursue a broad array of aesthetic, intellectual, and cultural interests. Their creative energies transform traditional approaches, generate new techniques, experiment with formal concerns, and investigate conceptual relationships. Together, they provide a multi-faceted view of contemporary art. We are honored that Paula Owen, President of the Southwest generous and creative commitments as an artist, curator, and advocate for the arts are inspirational. This exhibition is made possible through the hard work of Laura Crist, John Hooper, Vikky Jones, Marissa Del Toro, and Willie Sanchez. Scott A. Sherer, PhD Associate Professor of Art History, and Director, UTSA Art Gallery and Satellite Space

known for some time, that there is no dominating trend or aesthetic that can be a commonality or larger truth is, of course, what group shows like this one are all about, especially in our postmodern world. Nevertheless, perhaps you will glean a coincident thread or underlying correspondence. I would say that each of these works must be probed and savored on its own. to the crazily captivating videos by Zack Ostrowski (Beverly Fresh) and the lyrical monoprints by Halide Salam, each artist approaches his or her work with a different intention using an array of tools and materials.
Spiral Jetty muscular paintings exude pulsating energy, while the moody charcoal drawings by Clara DeGala convey the pensive silence of a snowy morning. c-prints capture ethereal shards of light in a prosaic setting, and Christopher our only armor.
