Welcome to of Music UTSA’s School
Undergraduate Degrees
Music (B.M., B.A., Minor)
The world of music is full of variety, and UTSA has several choices for you to study. You might be wondering: what’s the difference between a Bachelor of Music (B.M.) and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree? The B.M. is a more professionally focused degree that centers on the training of music, whether you want to be a performing artist, compose your own music or become a music teacher.
Students will focus on one of these concentrations:
» Performance
» Music Marketing
» Music Education
» Composition
The B.A. degree in Music is a liberal arts degree that gives you more flexibility to explore the multiple facets of music such as performance, music history, music production and more.
If you’d rather pursue a different major at UTSA but want to learn about music, students can pursue a minor in Music.
UTSA Music minors include:
» Jazz Studies
» Music Marketing
» Music Technology
» Dance
Graduate Degrees
Master of Music (M.M.)
Consider pursuing a Master of Music if you want to develop your music performance or teaching skills, prepare for a career as a musician or eventually pursue doctoral studies. This program offers students a chance to advance their musical studies through various areas of emphasis, access to a multitude of performance and rehearsal spaces, and a skilled and passionate faculty who are experienced at all levels of instruction, performance and composition. Areas of emphasis include:
» Performance
» Education
» Conducting
» Performance & Pedagogy
Graduate Certificates
Graduate certificates provide an opportunity for postgraduate training to students who have already received an undergraduate degree. Certificate programs are narrower in scope and shorter in duration than a master’s degree. While a certificate program is not a degree, earning a graduate certificate can provide a solid foundation for further studies in a master’s or doctoral program.
Graduate certificates include:
» Instrumental Performance
» Music Pedagogy
» Music Theory Pedagogy
