CIQUINYA MORTON

Management & Accounting (Co-op) Saint Kitts and Nevis

CiQuinya chose U of T Scarborough because of the prestige of the University and the co-op opportunities only available at the Scarborough campus. CiQuinya found that the sense of community on campus made it a second home. There was also a ready availability of Caribbean food in Scarborough!

CiQuinya immersed herself in student life activities, becoming co-president of both the Co-op Students’ Association and Black Students in Business (BSB). CiQuinya also served as a key partner in the University’s Imani Academic Mentorship Program, where she volunteered her time, knowledge, and compassion to support Black elementary and high school students across Scarborough in their academic studies and personal planning for the future.

Through the Management Co-op program, CiQuinya was recruited into highly competitive finance and accounting roles at the Ontario Treasury Board Secretariat and PepsiCo, where supervisors agreed that her performance exceeded expectations in all areas. She was also the recipient of the Co-operative Education and Work-Integrated Learning (CEWIL) Canada Student of the Year Award.

“Co-op enhanced my university experience because it allowed me to see how my coursework is applied in the real world. I would encourage new co-op students to always be curious and ask questions.”
