A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. At UT, that first step is into the study abroad office.

This semester’s first study abroad fair was held Wednesday in the University Center Ballroom, where over 50 booths representing several study abroad organizations were set up.

Students who visited the ballroom were presented with multiple opportunities to learn about which programs are offered, how to pay for trips and what steps they need to take in order to make their study abroad experience a reality.

Sarah Knight, UT programs abroad coordinator, said it is very easy to begin the process.

“The first step in the process is to come to an event, like the fair, or to attend a general information session in the Programs Abroad

office, which is in Melrose Hall between Hodges Library and Hess Hall,” Knight said, noting that information sessions are held Monday through Friday at 2 p.m.

Interested students are tasked with choosing a program that fits them best based on their major, year, financial support and personal preference, Knight said.

“There’s not really a ‘best’ program,” Knight said. “It’s a very individual decision.

We have hundreds of options out there so hopefully there is something that can fit anyone’s budget and anyone’s academic needs as well.”

In terms of funding an academic trip, the university’s study abroad website includes an entire section dedicated to study abroad scholarships. The links range from scholarships based on major to websites that have links to other scholarships, planning tips and budgeting advice.

DISPATCHES New York politician jailed for corruption The speaker of the New York State Assembly, Sheldon Silver, was arrested on federal corruption charges Thursday. The 70-year-old politician who has served as speaker for more than 20 years was accused of using the power of his position to accrue millions of dollars in bribes and kickbacks for more than a decade. He then covered up his illegal dealings, according to court documents. Silver, a Democrat from the Lower East Side of Manhattan, has been charged with a wide variety of corrupt acts. The New York Times reports Silver has been accused of “funneling state research funds and other benefits to a doctor who in return referred asbestos claims” to the law firm Silver worked at and giving real estate developers tax breaks, among other dirty deals.

Federal abortion bill slips through House Despite the clear message from the White House that the bill will be vetoed if it reaches the president’s desk, a piece of anti-abortion legislation passed through the House on Thursday. The bill, which tightens federal restrictions on abortions, was passed with a vote of 242-179.

Specifically, the republican-backed bill proposes to permanently restrict federal funds from being used for abortion coverage or aid. Additionally, the measure would bar tax credits for people and businesses purchasing abortion coverage through President Obama’s health care law. The bill was rushed by GOP leaders, who first considered proposing legislation to ban most late-term abortions. This measure was ditched at the last minute after it received criticism and condemnation from female Republican representatives.

Deadly weapon or constitutional guarantee: the debate over gun control laws continues.

The Central Program Council’s Issues Committee hosted Glen Caroline, director of the National Rifle Association-Institute for Legislative Action Grassroots Division, and Juan Pacheco, a former gang member, on Wednesday night to discuss their differing viewpoints on gun control in the debate titled, “Gun Control: A Civil Debate on a Loaded Topic.”

Issues Committee representatives pointed out prior to the start of the debate that the event’s main goal was to inform attendees about the different viewpoints on gun control currently circulating in the U.S. Citing a recent study conducted by Dr. Michael Siegel, a Boston University School of Public Health researcher, Pacheco stated for each 1 percent increase in gun ownership, the state’s non-stranger homicide rate increases by 0.9 percent.

“With this in mind, it’s worth to consider that if a certain tool or weapon can cause harm to some of us, then it is causing harm to all of us,” Pacheco said.

In Pacheco’s opinion, the gun control debate is having a dire effect on the reality of gun violence.

“The truth is that those who are really being affected don’t have the luxury to survive in this world,” Pacheco said. “Even though I am not okay with our rights being taken away, I am also not okay with losing young people over issues such as gun violence.”

Caroline, arguing for the right to bear arms despite the consequences, shared his first experience with a gun, when one of his close friends committed suicide with his father’s shotgun.

“Never in almost 28 years did I ever blame his father for legally owning a firearm, nor did I blame the tool that my friend chose to end his own life with,” Caroline said. “What I do ask myself is why a 17-year-old kid, who had his entire life in front of him, chose to end it.”

Caroline’s primary argument was that an increased amount of gun control does not mean a decreased amount of criminal activity.

“A criminal by definition is a lawbreaker,” Caroline said. “Therefore, even though so many gun control laws are enforced, this doesn’t affect the actions of a criminal any way.”

Caroline said the NRA has taken steps to reduce gun crimes by enhancing school security, enforcing existing laws which would convict those in possession of illegal firearms and maintaining an instant criminal background check on those wanting to purchase guns.

Caroline told the audience the NRA is putting all its focus into making sure lawabiding citizens are safe while upholding the principle of the Second Amendment.

Kasey Reed, senior majoring in Hispanic studies, studied abroad in Seville, Spain, last fall. She said the experiences and lessons she gained abroad were worth every penny spent.

“It’s easy living in Tennessee to be caught up in a Tennessee bubble,” Reed said. “Here we have everything we need, while in Spain you can’t take 30-minute showers, and you can’t leave the lights on in a room that you’re not in because electricity is expensive.

“It gave me a better sense of thinking about other people in the world, rather than just other people in America.”

The dark side of Scruffy City Transportation structure of Knoxville makes the city a drug trafficking hub Chris Salvemini Staff Writer

East Tennessee is one of the most popular sites for drug trafficking. From manufacture to trade, an abundance of illicit substances pass through the area every year.

This is hardly a new trend — there’s a long history of trafficking illegal substances in the Appalachian Mountains.

The practice took root in the 1920s when bootlegging liquor was one of the most profitable professions. It offered incredible opportunities for people who had little to no chance of entering a typical profession to both brew and sell illegal alcohol.

Bootlegging evolved over time in the protection of the Appalachian Mountains, hidden from law enforcement.

Knoxville Chief of Police David Rausch said the structure of Knoxville in particular creates a perfect environment for trafficking. Interstate 40 and Interstate 75 cut right through the heart of the city, so while ordinary citizens benefit from easy travel in any cardinal direction out of the city, drug traffickers see an opportunity to peddle their product throughout the country. In late December, for example, a cocaine and heroin pipeline from New York to Maryville, Tennessee, was dismantled.

As a result, over time, Knoxville began to depend more on trafficking than manufacturing. Rausch explained most labs in the region today are “shake-and-bake” or one-pot setups, designed for making enough methamphetamine for personal use rather than selling.

East Tennessee has seen massive busts as a result of the major traffic through the area. Some cases were on an international scale, with the prime suspects typically having ties in South America. These people are only in town for a short while, however, and most major players don’t set up shop permanently.

The kinds of drugs that find their way through East Tennessee are diverse. Chief of the UT Police Department Troy Lane noted that recreational substances such as marijuana, prescription drugs and ecstasy are predominant in the UT community.

Outside the city, meth has become a major problem since users can make the drug on their own while hiding their activities in the mountains. In the city — and across the nation — heroin has been making a comeback as well, Rausch explained.

In March 2014, Attorney General Eric Holder called the 45 percent increase in heroin overdoses between 2006 and 2010 “an urgent public health crisis.”

Users may also get their next bottle from illegitimate practitioners of medicine: doctors, nurse practitioners and pain clinics. According to the White House Drug Control Update, from 2008 to 2009 Tennessee ranked first in non-medicinal use of pain relievers for people over 26 years old.

Prescription drugs, however, can get expensive, around $80 a bottle. Heroin has become a favorable solution to the financial problem as it can be as inexpensive as $10 a shot.

Rausch noted Knoxville’s supply of heroin is not being made locally, but is instead being shipped from northern cities such as Detroit. The drugs make a hop over the U.S.

before coming in from the north, since most are manufactured in South America. This comes as a result of a heavily secured southern border – not much makes it through the scrutiny of Mexican/American border patrol. They are instead sent by air or sea to Canada, from which the drugs are shipped to cities like Chicago and Detroit.

Major drug dealers tend to base themselves in their own city where they use their own connections and distribution lines to spread throughout the country. East Tennessee is a major part of this chain.

Small drug dealers get a portion of the supply for a price while it moves through.

Police efforts have played a large part in curbing drug activity. A local branch of the Drug Enforcement Administration Office of Diversion Control detects and prevents illicit distribution of regulated substances by monitoring all practitioners of medicine.

The Knoxville Police Department has many divisions investigating and curbing drug related activity as well. Officers at KPD have worked with the FBI and DEA on federal-level cases. There has also been a committee established to tackle the issue by identifying threats and treating victims, Rausch said.

“We had a defendant provide us information not too long ago,” Rausch said. “And he told us that in Detroit the word was, ‘Don’t come into Knoxville unless you want to be arrested.’”

UTPD is making efforts to combat drug use on campus by employing undercover investigators. They have detected trends in drug use such as a spike in possession cases after breaks or when the weather gets colder.

While efforts have been effective, the question remains: are they enough?

In 2014, there were 127 cases of drug possession on campus in addition to 36 cases of suspicious activities involving drugs. Lane noted, however, that seldom does UTPD get a report about selling.

Lane said he still feels confident drug use can be eradicated on campus.

“It’s just not a great place to conduct that kind of business,” he said. “Most folks don’t want, and won’t tolerate this kind of behavior and are willing to tell us about those who do this.”

'American Sniper' neither hit nor miss Hannah Moulton

“Aim small, miss small.”

So director, Clint Eastwood, aimed big and ended up somewhere in the middle.

“American Sniper” chronicles the true story of former U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, played by Bradley Cooper, throughout and after his four tours of service as a sniper.

Crafted with the utmost attention to detail on Eastwood’s part and a clear vision and message of patriotism made possible by screenwriter Jason Hall, the film examines the complexities of war and its aftereffects.

Recent public dispute over Kyle’s heroism cannot forgo the truth that the trials he suffered during and after the war were as real to him as they are to many veterans today. The American flag-laid coffins that replaced the seats of soldiers on a plane ride home are not just a Hollywood creation but instead, one such casualty of life in war everywhere.

Bradley Cooper’s performance gave audiences a glimpse at what that life is like.

He deserves his Oscar nomination for his tense, accurate portrayal of the gentle giant, Kyle. Hesitation in his eyes before shooting, and even the slight twitches after each shot, relayed the impact such acts had on “The Legend.” However, Cooper’s performance’s positive contribution to the film will not be enough to ensure a win.

them. Women's and children’s every move prior to their deaths were displayed behind the scope of the rifle. They became targets and we, the audience, the sniper.

Also, despite celebrating “the greatest country in the world,” Eastwood made sure to humanize the enemy sniper (played by Mido Hamada) as he did with Kyle. The two men paralleled each other at one point.

Both prepared to kill the other from their respective locations in the name of their countries, yet both focused on their wife and child at home. Without this, it would appear as a portrayal of good versus evil instead of what it was: a justification of actions.

In the end, the difficulty with defining this film’s merit is not in finding it within the film but in separating Eastwood’s adaption of events and the story itself. There's nothing “wrong” with “American Sniper;” it just lacks greatness because it is not the drama people want to see. It is geared towards a military crowd, who, albeit honorable, are not seeking any extravagances in plot or structure.

Silence filled the theater as the lack of music in the credits attracted the audience’s attention - a form of tribute to those who suffered so much. It is here that the filmmakers hit the target.

Close your eyes.

Now, imagine the most adorable little restaurant that only serves breakfast and lunch. It exudes coziness and warmth with a max capacity less than 50.

If your imagination produced a picture including sea foam green walls, light wood tables and bar stools, Mason jars with flowers and artwork done by creative locals, you succeeded.

Enter OliBea: the Old City’s one and only breakfast place. Sure, The Crown & Goose serves brunch and all the coffee places offer pastries, but none of them could serve you poached eggs and sage sausage on a Thursday.

For the last seven years, a bear-sized man ran the kitchen at The Crown & Goose. Jeffrey DeAlejandro didn’t flinch during shifts where he oversaw the preparation of hundreds of plates for dinner, but he always had his mind on serving breakfast foods for fewer people.

“I’ve wanted a smaller, 40-seat feel for a long time,” DeAlejandro said. “It’s one thing to go from cooking 200 to 300 covers a night to 80 in a day. I get to touch more – actually put something on the plate.”

“There were never any restaurants in the city to showcase the quality of the produce that comes out of this area. They do that here.”

So, he opened his dream spot on Central Street and named it OliBea after his two children, Oliver and Beatrice.

DeAlejandro and his sous chef Winter only needed three weeks to decide what they wanted to put on the plates at OliBea. The two share a love of breakfast and Mexican foods, which explains classic tacos with house-made chorizo and the breakfast burrito of Manchamanteles marinated chicken.

“We got together and we were both like ‘What about this?’ ‘What about that?’” DeAlejandro said. “It might not be the right way; it’s not ‘what would the customer want?’ It’s what we would eat.”

The customers obviously want what OliBea offers; the almost 900 likes on OliBea’s Facebook page accumulated in a little over a month shocked DeAlejandro. Ginger McKay, an Oregon native who has lived in Knoxville for a year, is thrilled about the new restaurant.

“I think it’s a god-send,” McKay said.

“I always thought that it was so frustrating that Knoxville and the surrounding area have such beautiful farms with people growing really good food, but there were never any restaurants in the city to showcase the quality of the produce that comes out of this area.

“They do that here.”

At the top of the OliBea menu, customers can find a list of partners, like Circle V Farms and Willy Butcher Shop, that provide locally sourced ingredients.

On the counter sits a pastry case where Stephanie Russo sells her macarons, brownies and cookies. Russo also bakes the sourdough bread, bagels and English muffins for OliBea. “I knew Jeffrey from around in the chef world,” Russo said. “I think he’s an amazing cook with a great vision, and I really liked what he’s doing here. It’s very much my style: locally sourcing and cute. OliBea is bringing a lot of different flavors to Knoxville that we haven’t seen yet.”

The grilled cheese sandwich is a perfect example of new flavors: local sourdough, Butterkase cheese, local oyster mushroom duxcelles, topped with a fried duck egg. Molly Mullin, a local photographer, approved of the sandwich.

“It’s just so nice to have well-made breakfast food that is still very simple.”

Mullin said.

The OliBea Plate offers eggs, potatoes, meat and bread.

This plate has poached eggs, squared potatoes, sage sausage and a biscuit.

Take a good look at your Tennessee sports stocks

The stock market has become a launching point for movies, TV shows and Ivy League graduates’ drug habits. Today, in The Vol Street Journal, we will take a look at the different markets that make up our campus and, using pinpoint accurate analysis, track whether you should buy, sell or hold the “stocks” that make up your campus portfolio.

There are several important items related to this game that the UT investor will need to have knowledge about. First off, Tennessee always wins its spring game. Some of you may say in sniveling voices, “But we play ourselves? How can we win when we’re not playing an actual opponent?”

That sort of pessimistic thinking is counterproductive to what we’re trying to do here. Every win is a brick. Bricks are good. We want good things, therefore we want bricks, and therefore we will win this spring game. On the flip side, but closely following the same logic, every other SEC team will lose their spring game, notably making Bama 0-2 in 2015. Moving on, the second and most important aspect of the game, as related

to your portfolio, is 102,455. This is the sell out attendance for Neyland. The tailgate starts now.

BUY: Tennessee Basketball The men’s and women’s teams both currently sit at No. 2 in SEC standings. The expectations of the Lady Vols are always high and yield a steady return on investment, but the gains seen by this men’s team are making some investors, which saw the diamonds in the rough, a hefty return.

I’ll be the first to admit that I was disappointed when former coach Bruce Pearl went to Auburn instead of returning, but after looking at the SEC standings (cough cough ranked 10th), they can keep him. Donnie Tyndall has helped launch this team to its best SEC start in seven years. There’s still much basketball to be played, so go out and support your team tomorrow against a very competitive Texas A&M and defend your investment.

SELL: South Carolina Tennessee basketball beat South Carolina for the 15th straight time, meaning that one has to go back to Feb. 17, 2007, to find the last time we fell to the Basket-cocks. For fun, let’s look back at what we called life in 2007: Bill Haslam was

merely a poor multi-millionaire, no one knew what a subprime mortgage was and avid South Carolina fan, Darius Rucker, was nowhere close to messing with “Wagon Wheel.” Be careful when selling South Carolina though, history has proven they will take their state and go home when they feel undervalued.

Pondering Putin’s next move

I know what question is on all of your minds this miserable, snowy day: “What is Vladmir Putin’s next move?”

Putin has fought, with much gusto and for a very long time, to be where he is today (the top).

He began his ascent as a KGB spy during Soviet rule; today he is at an estimated net worth of $40 billion of embezzled Russian money, according to The Telegraph. He stands to lose it all: not to war, not to a judge nor jury, but to economic collapse.

Since the “Crimean crisis” in March, Russia has gained more and more infamy among European Union- and NATO-member nations with acts of seeming aggression along Russian’s European border. Now, the ruble is in free fall and President Obama said in his State of the Union on Tuesday that the Russian economy is “in tatters.”

Imagine the situation Putin has found himself in. Just like Nazi Germany before and during World War II, Russia has slowly began to cut ties with the Western world whilst simultaneously strengthening bonds with an eastern, communist country (in this case, China). I am no prophet, but I can definitely foresee many negative outcomes of the current circumstance that Russia’s found herself in.

Russia Today, Russia’s state-funded cable news program, has a slightly different opinion on the subject that can be easily summed up with its headline “Russian economy not crashing, but adjusting.” Putin has not lost control over Russian media yet.

Truly scary times are happening in Russia, so much so that Putin himself has placed a cap on the soaring price of vodka — a move that has actually been praised by Forbes and other news outlets.

If I had to speculate, using the information I’ve gathered over the past year, I would say that Russia will endure a recession for several years mostly due to oil prices, somewhat due to Russia’s aggressive government. Depending on the way Putin handles the situation, whether he looks for help from the West (unlikely) or the East, is what I believe to be pivotal in Russia’s future. Community farm to host annual fundraiser Hannah Moulton

Though the weather might not feel like it, Snow Day is coming to Knoxville.

Beardsley Farm’s annual community farm event will showcase Knoxville’s local music and food scene. Being the only urban demonstration farm in Knoxville, the mission of Beardsley Farm’s Snow Day is to raise money for the farm as well as support urban agriculture and food justice in Knoxville.

Snow Day has become an important event for the Knoxville community. The turnout each year is around 800 attendees. Snow Day also supports

over 100 local businesses, among these include local restaurants, retail stores and media outlets.

Seven local artists, each with a diverse sound, will perform at the event which will be held at Barley’s Taproom and Pizzeria. Among the bands set to perform are Dixieghost, Swingbooty and Roman Reese with Michael Davis. “We are just happy to be a part of this benefit and to get to rock alongside some great local musicians,� Reese said.

Jodie Manross, an acoustic Americana artist, performed with her band at Snow Day 2014. “It’s such a unique local event that combines amazing farm to table restaurants, creating healthy soups, local music and artisans and a vibrant sense of Knoxville community,� Manross said.

In addition to the local music, Snow Day will feature food from some of Knoxville’s local restaurants. A soup competition dubbed “Soup with Bread� will pit local eateries against each other in a soup-off. The Snow Day soup-off will feature Sunspot, The Bistro at the Bijou, Good Golly Tamale, OliBea, Bull’s BBQ and Tupelo Honey.

Snow Day also hosts another competition called the “Homegrown and Homemade Beard Pageant� as another form of entertainment. The beard competition along with the soup-off are both favorites of Reese and his musical partner Michael Davis. “Davis often sports a beard, and I’ve always been a fan of soup,� Reese said.

A silent auction will also be held. Highlights

of the auction include a June Community Supported Agriculture membership with A Place of the Heart farm, a YMCA household membership and gift certificates to various Knoxville businesses.

Snow Day helps raise 15 percent of Beardsley Farm’s annual operating budget.

Karina Costa, farm assistant, spoke about Snow Day on behalf of the Beardsley Farm team. “It is incredible to see so many businesses, artists and restaurants come together to support the farm and to create a night that offers a little something for everyone,� Costa said.

Snow Day 2015 tickets are $7 for admission plus $3 for soup. The event will start at 7 p.m. on Friday.

After notching its third-straight conference road win, Donnie Tyndall can see the confidence in his Volunteer team blooming, even though its inexperience should be limiting it.

“The thing about such a youthful team is, sometimes if you don’t know how to win, you play not to lose, and that’s bad,” said the first-year head coach in a university release following UT’s 66-62 victory over South Carolina. “But sometimes you are so young and dumb — for lack of a better term — you kind of just think that you are going to win the game, and our team is so inexperienced that a lot of our guys have never played in these settings or these environments, and so they kind of think that this is what they are supposed to do.

“Maybe they don’t understand how hard it is, but give our young guys credit, they are finding a way, and I do think we’ll continue to grow in regards to confidence.”

Currently sitting by itself in second place of the SEC standings, Tennessee will look to carry that confidence into Saturday’s contest against the Texas A&M Aggies, who have won three consecutive games.

The Vols surrendered a 17-point lead on Tuesday against South Carolina, but managed to escape with a victory in the waning seconds of the contest.

A similar style of victory, however, may not be possible for UT on Saturday after the Aggies showed what they could do when trailing, overcoming a 31-24 halftime deficit versus Missouri en route to a 62-50 victory over the Tigers thanks to a 22-2 run in the second half.

For the Vols — or at least for the five scholarship players who returned from last year’s squad — though, this contest against the Aggies is an opportunity to exact revenge.

averages 4.7 points and 3.1 rebounds while playing in just 14.9 minutes per game, hit a game-winning three in the final seconds of the ballgame to defeat the Vols.

But Texas A&M head coach Billy Kennedy knows this year’s game will be much different than the 2014 versions.

“This is a big game going to Tennessee, a place we won last year,” said Kennedy in a Texas A&M release. “It’s a totally different team. They’re playing with a lot of confidence. There will be seventeen thousand people there — they get great support. We have got to take care of the ball and get shots at the basket. They play a match-up zone that I coached against Donnie Tyndall and the OVC for five years and so I’ve seen it a bunch and it’s a good defense and they’ll be well-prepared.”

For the first time in his coaching career, Butch Jones will have someone other than Mike Bajakian calling offensive plays for the 2015 season.

With two weeks remaining until signing day, Tennessee confirmed earlier reports of Bajakian's departure Thursday evening in a statement from Jones.

“We'd like to thank Coach Bajakian for his two years at Tennessee and his efforts in helping us rebuild this storied program,” Jones said. “We wish him much success with his goal of coaching in the NFL.” According to a press release from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Bajakian will join the coaching staff of the Bucs as the new quarterbacks coach.

Bajakian just finished his second year at Tennessee and has been a member of head coach Jones' staff since 2007, dating back to his years at Central Michigan.

Bajakian's replacement at Tennessee will be the Vols' fifth offensive coordinator in the last nine years, spanning the employments of four different head coaches.

Under Bajakian last season, the Vols averaged 28.9 points per game, which ranked 62nd in the nation, while amassing 370.5 total yards per contest — 224.2 passing and 146.3 rushing — ranking UT 90th in the country in total offense. Bajakian's last game as the Vols' offensive coordinator was Tennessee's 45-28 victory against Iowa in the TaxSlayer Bowl.

Carter’s defense leads Lady Vols past LSU Taylor White

After scoring 25 points in last year’s upset win over the Lady Vols, LSU’s Danielle Ballard seemed to be primed to pick up where she left off.

The junior guard was coming off outings of 24 and 25 points respectively after sitting out the first 14 games of the season due to suspension, and appeared ready to spoil the fourth annual “We Back Pat” game in Thompson-Boling Arena.

Andraya Carter, however, had other ideas. She was able to keep Ballard in check for most of the night, limiting her to four first half points and helping lead the Lady Vols to a 75-58 victory over the Lady Tigers.

“When she caught the ball, we wanted to make things hard on her,” Carter said. “They have good players, and she’s one of their best players so we didn’t want her to get hot.”

Ballard finished the night with 15 points, but several of them came well after the game had already been decided in the second half, and she finished with a game-high five turnovers on the night.

Carter’s impact on the game was not only limited to defense, however, as the sophomore guard scored 13 points on five of six shooting, including three of three from behind the 3-point line.

Many of her shots seemed to come when the Lady Vols (16-3, 6-0) needed a spark.

Less than a minute into the second half, LSU (10-9, 4-3) had cut the

Tennessee lead to six, when Carter knocked down a 3-pointer. She followed that up by assisting an Isabelle Harrison layup on the next possession before recording a steal and feeding Harrison again, who was fouled and hit both free throws at the line.

“I thought she took great shots,” head coach Holly Warlick said. “She was fivefor-six and I thought she had a solid game ... I’ve not told any of these guys not to shoot. I thought she just took great looks.”

Just three days after shooting four of 15 from the field and missing several easy layups, All-SEC forward Harrison had a memorable night.

The junior scored 25 points, one short of tying her career high, on nine of 11 shooting and pulled down eight rebounds. While it was up to her to score, the majority of her points were made possible by great passing from her teammates, as the Lady Vols finished with 18 assists on 25 successful field goals.

“We work (interior passing) a lot in practice,” Harrison said. “The past couple games those passes have been there too, I just wasn’t holding up my end of the deal, so I’m glad they kept on putting it in there and trusting in me to finish.”

This was the fourth annual “We Back Pat” game honoring Head Coach Emeritus Pat Summitt, and the first one that saw both teams coached by former Lady Vol players. LSU coach Nikki Caldwell played under Summitt from 1990 to 1994, and returned to coach under her from 2002 to 2008.

Despite the fact that it ended in a loss, being able to participate in this game was still a special experience for the former Lady Vol. “I wouldn’t be sitting here today without (Summitt),” Caldwell said. “It’s always great to be able to come back home and see a lot of familiar faces, but anytime I come back to Knoxville she’s the one face that I definitely have to see.”
