From the Choreographer

This piece is motivated by a constant investigation into African Diasporic movement structures meant to deepen the physical interrogation of its rich history through a contemporary dance expression. Drawing from the concept of the original drum (the heartbeat), the piece invites a conversation into 3/6 rhythms drawing from music played in Senegal, Brazil and Cuba.

From the Choreographer

digital-esque is inspired by the relationship between our capitalist society and social media. The recent boom of monetizing social media has resulted in successful influencer careers and a rise in market ing oneself as a brand to consumers. Creating and projecting an image you want your audience to consume is a recent kind of pressure damaging to our mental health and well-being. digital-esque investigates the relationship between product and consumer in which products project a “perfect” im age and viewers consume it. Producing and consuming perfect images is hard and capitalism demands our continuous work. But should we maintain those demands?

From the Choreographer Dear Being,

You are being transported to a world we control and that also controls us. Together we will face failures and surrender to time and space.  We invite you to be informed by the transformation, to be transformed by the information. This is dangerous yet possible. Revert to fantasy; there is only surrender. We will persevere. We will trust ourselves and trust eachother. We lead eachother away from harm and interlock as intelligent machines. We care for eachother when we contemplate risk. Precious Disregarding. You may find yourself at capacity. Revert, surrender.  Dear being, we are wiser nonetheless.
