world,” also known as upper Manhattan. Through the eyes of the charming Usnavi De La Vega, we get to experience the dynamic neighborhood. This young business owner and dynamic emcee introduces us to the Heights, which functions much like a large family – teasing, loving and supporting one another while simultaneously being pulled apart by outside forces. It encourages the audience to consider what it will take to keep the family and community intact. Vega and Nina Rosario – who represent the past, present and future of the neighborhood. Connected by generational struggles and triumphs, the spirit of these characters is deeply woven into the fabric of the community. Their strength, resilience and ambition unite the neighborhood, giving them hope to move forward in unity. This production strives to capture the beautiful and vibrant life of the neighborhood while staying rooted in an authentic emotional reality. The hustle and bustle of the city creates a proximity among neighbors that cultivates relationships. People are deeply woven into each other’s lives and are invested in the success of others because it means success for the entire community. This makes the neighborhood itself a character that has to respond to the external forces that put extreme pressure on the internal bonds of the Heights. In the Heights embraces cultural diversity through music, dance and history, framing the search for personal identity. Join us as we celebrate the importance of family, hope and community with this groundbreaking piece of musical theatre. Jerry Ruiz, director Madilynn Garcia and Joshua Streeter, dramaturgs
