Graduating around the globe

Why a PhD? The first question we often ask of someone who inquires about starting a PhD is, “Have you ever thought that you can live happily without ever getting a PhD degree?” This is not, of course, to disappoint them, but to make them seriously consider the difficulties of working as a doctoral student in Greece. Indeed, a PhD candidate student remains usually without financial remuneration, spending countless hours on
advancing their research work, supporting (as teaching assistant) the courses of their supervising professors, working (if lucky) for a research project (EU- or nationally-funded) and/or struggling to get any of the few awarded scholarships from the State Scholarships Foundation (iky.gr) or the Hellenic Foundation for Research & Innovation (elidek.gr).
