CHANG-AN EAST Road was an important administrative region during the period of Japanese rule. There were many shops and residents here, which made the distance between people quite close. But with the passage of time, gradually declining, there were only shops left. The closeness between people is also getting farther and further.

By using the history of old buildings and the relics of shops, and the mix of residents and merchants, we can make Chang-an East Road more diversified, and once again gather the intimacy of the people within it, treating four people as a group. The group lives in the residence business hybrid, mixed with individual different areas and storefronts to achieve the effect of sharing and unity, while also making the culture of Chang-an East Road more permanent.

Multi-story Deck and Spiral Staircase 0 4

Use: Duplex 2 unit any combination

Date: 09/07/2022 - 12/11/2023

Area: Total Area: 4.389 sqft. 1. Foot Print: 1.375 sqft. 2. Deck: 216 sqft.

Project Information: Build new deck on the back of house, use kit spiral stairs, existing windows and add new window and sliding doors.

Spoke at length with clients, who wanted a deck off the back of their second story condo. They’re expecting a baby and wanted more outdoor space without having to go downstairs to the shared backyard.

Proposed deck Deck

The plans evolved from there and the design was finalized with a rough square footage equal to the existing kitchen, living and dining rooms combined. A door will replace the single existing window, and two large new windows will be installed on either side to give an indoor/ outdoor feel. A spiral staircase on the outer corner provides access to the shared backyard and vegetable garden, and the railing was designed with tighter spaces, and a gate in front of the stairs to accommodate the baby being able to crawl and spend more time outside safely.

The dragon looms through the clouds and uses Chinese Knots in the conceptual design. By using glass facades, the building simulates walking outside in the snow or clouds, and there is a penetrability to connect the buildings together.

Elapsing memory

KINMEN Guningtou Battle Memorial Park

Location: Kinmen Guningtou

Kinmen Guningtou was originally the site of war, and was divided into three parts: the Beishan settlement, the Nanshan settlement, and the Lincuo settlement. During the Guningtou War this base was the main battlefield, leaving many memories and traces of the battles.

Now it has become a deserted and overgrown abandoned camp area, which combines the memory of the remains with the memory of the residents who lived through the battle at that time, and forms a new and old memory park.

It is understood that Kinmen is not only a memory of war, but also a good environment and full of culture.

Brighter colors refer to longer exposure to sunlight, resulting in a higher TOF (Tilt and Orientation Factor), Solar Access and TSRF (Total Solar Resource Fraction),All factors are compared to the total insolation available in a given location at the optimum tilt and orientation and with no shading.
