VIRGINIA GEOGRAPHY MAP
The first mapping project was about developing a system of graphic language that we learned from the old maps and apply them in a new way to represent the geography as well as geology in VA. I used an ancient Chinese map and learnerd ways of representing different speed of water. Combining with the geography in formation, I ended up drawing the surrounding contours inside the water body to understand how water folws on site.

02 QUARRY LANDFORM UVa, Charlottesville, VA Date: November, 2014 Instructor: Teresa Gali-izard, Leena Cho
This studio object is to design a system of how to manipulate the landform of a quarry in Virginia. Based on my landform study about the terrace, my proposal is about excavating and filling in order to create a xeric environment on the north side of the quarry and a mesic envionment on the south side.

03 URBAN INTERACTION Developing a landscape idea that will further help to bind all the phases together, and will link to the urban development. A second layer of public space in a random formation can provide more oppournities for a city’s development. Combined with vegetation as well as recycle system, not only the public space can thrive with interesting spots, but also develop in a sustainable way. The new model of urbanization requires dynamic public spaces for citizens’ communication, and it calls for ecological balance in the city at the same time. As a designer, we need to put forward new ideas of possible solutions, more importantly, respect the site, history and nature.

04 FRSH Already the digital simulation used a tessellated geometry for its calculation, and this was further refined to create a paneling system for its simple manufacturing and assembly. Althought the surface si double-curved in itseld, each of its hexagonal components is perfectly flat and laser cut out of aluminius of sheets. Openings of varing sizes allow for a differentiation of dark and light spaces. The integrated flanges could be folded by hand, stiffening the structure and forming the connecting points between components. The assembly itseld took the group a mere 10 hours.
